Regarding the last portion with the elderly gentleman crossing the road, we're all heading that way. So be kind, one day you'll be the one struggling to walk.
At 2:50, a tow truck driver had left enough oil dry there that it spanned an easy 15x15 section and was thick!! Same color as the pavement.. both of our insurance companies are going after the tow truck company due to reckless endangerment and ilegally leaving the oil dry on the road! We both got new bikes, both are not injured and both ripping!
Hey just wanted to say thanks for your videos; they've helped me stay safe as a new rider(under 400 miles ridden so far) and avoid plenty of possible close calls(and I mean avoid them as in they didn't even get a chance to become close calls, thanks to being able to predict them because of what I've learned from your videos).
@@davecarsley8773 yep, haven't been riding much though. I'm only at around 750 miles at this point. I did nearly get taken out riding on the highway at one point (left lane was standstill traffic, my lane was moving and practically empty so I was going around 60 mph and a car in the left lane goes into my lane, and while still partially turned, completely stops; blocking my entire lane, about 10 feet ahead of me) but I was luckily able to react and swerve in time. Thanks for checking in!
about 19:50... common pattern here in mountain travel. road goes from two lane opposing, to third lane dedicated passing, and vehicles hang in the left lane. THEN, someone passes on the right ( is legal in BC ), vehicle in left lane goes "ohhh" and veers into right lane to clear the passing lane. Kind of a polite version of 'open lane pattern'. So when I see someone passed on the right, I give them an extra breath to sort themselves out before deciding to pass on the left or right, car or bike, doesn't matter.
As someone who is getting ready to get into street riding (spent my whole childhood on dirt bikes) these crash analysis videos are such a huge help in preparing for all kinds of real world scenarios. Thank you so much for this and all the other awesome content you put out man! So beneficial to so many!
Dan, wouldn’t it be wonderful if everyone took these courses. even if they didn’t want to ride motorcycles. but trained in the motorcycle training courses. this would increase driver awareness throughout the driving experience we all share on the roads.
20:04 You're wrong on this one, Dan. The car driver is not an "idiot". That biker was completely at fault for this near miss. He tried to turn right from a left-turn/straight-only lane. The car on his right was in a right-turn/straight-only lane. Look at the markings at the roundabout. The car had every legal right to go straight in his lane. But the bike had NO legal right to make a right hand turn from _his_ lane.
Rev bombing is so damn dumb! Your horn is way louder an you don't cut power. Yall people are listening to radio, playing on phones. They don't hear your weak revving
My assumption is that these people don't know their controls that well, so they use what they're already touching, the throttle. I have an air horn I'm putting on my bike as soon as I figure out where it will fit.
Rev bombing is WAY louder on many bikes than the horn is. Regardless, you're correct. It's kind of stupid. Just navigate out of the situation and move on.
@@davecarsley8773 Louder may not mean more effective. If I hear a horn I have a certain reaction and look to see what is going on and if I need to take action. If I hear a revving engine, I just think "moron." and keep going.
Motorcycles at speed are inherently stable vehicles... then you put a human on one. (That motorcycle continuing down the road @ 11:50) They are also very capable, often more capable than the rider. (6:20)
In Australia we don't just have the Kangaroos to contend with, there's also Wombats, the odd Koala, Emus, Cassowary (a bird as big as the emu) Dingoes and of course the imports like camels, goats, Stray cows and sheep and yes also Deer! But some of the worst to avoid, is the bloody snakes!
27:45 - that Toys R Us appears to be in Portugal, or at least that gray Peugeot that was pulling out was from Portugal 🇵🇹 based on their license plate.
The kangaroos here are scary here in Australia especially when your mid turn and a big red is just standing next to the guard rail waiting to jump out haha been in that situation a few times
I notice a lot of people who dump their bikes don't immediately turn them off. I'd think that running on the side would create oil starvation, leading to internal engine damage. Am I thinking about this wrong? I know there's probably the shock and embarrassment factor to contend with, but should be an automatic response to turn the bike off to preserve the engine and reduce likelihood of other things (like fire)
I have a Pikes Peak, so I have watched quite a few of PalPark Riders videos. Sadly, they totalled his bike, but he went out and bought a new BMW M 1000XR black with the red and blue stripes.
21:37 prior to watching your videos I never would have thought of submitting occurrences like this to a channel. It doesn’t even seem like a close call to me worth showing.
That last guy really needs an electric mobility device. I can imagine him getting out and being so exhausted he can't move anymore. That could be where he's at in this video. Unfortunately if he's in the US especially, he may not be able to afford it and not have any insurance that would provide it.
16:53 I have this bike, its a Honda CBX250cc (2001-2008) you can see that he used his rear brake, this bike dosent have ABS or rear disc brake Maybe he is using an old tire
The video of the bikes going uphill (2 lanes going up and 1 lane coming down). I always stay in the right lane, furthest from the opposing traffic. When I need to pass I use that lane but I never stay in it. I think the reasons are obvious.
the clip at 25 min, other than crossing too many lanes you can't fault the car, the bike was going too fast, the car was in the roadway before the bike even had visibility, therefore the car was clear to enter the road and it would have never been an issue if the bike wasn't speeding.
3:12 they probably weren’t filming with a potato, TH-cam is just being cheap. Before you record these, hit the gear and select a good resolution, if you don’t TH-cam will randomly drop you to 240p to save bandwidth especially if you pause a lot.
Anyone got some advice on what to wear for summer riding? I ride a HD Breakout and no way in hell am I riding in shorts! My leg would get cooked well done.I wear long light khaki pants but I'm still too hot. Got to be something to stay cool in the summer months.
It's essentially impossible to get safe gear AND stay comfortably cool in the middle of summer. You're going to have to pick one or the other. Pick the gear! Your khaki pants will shed within ½ second on pavement, BTW.
25:40 Blind turn, the driver coudn't see the motorcycle, and it's wasn't the "brain didn't register a bike" case, but literaly the view was blocked, so what was the car driver's mistake? That he didn't send his buddy 200 m into the turn to let him know over the phone if it was really clear? WFT?
I’m convinced these people who fail to navigate a simple curve in the road @6:45 are trying to use their body weight to turn instead of counter steering. A bike is incredibly nimble when counter steering - it wants to turn so much when done right 😊
Some people don't have the ability to go out at all times. I bought my motorcycle 2 years ago. I don't always have the availability to go out whenever I want and practice. I'd call myself a somewhat "beginner" even after having my motorcycle for 2 years. He realized he may not be able to male the turn and corrected it and saved himself. Why are we shaming him?
@terranhealer ok? And he said he's a beginner. So instead of doing something that might male him crash worse than how he did, he found an exit route and executed his escape properly with minimal to no damage to him and his bike.
11:30 - this is why why I always advise AGAINST mounting your phone on the bike, unless you absolutely must. If you need it for navigation, OK, put it on the bars. I do not understand why that first crash happened, did he snatch his brake? He was only doing 22 when he crashed, imo if he opened the throttle he would have passed that car no problem, even lightly touching the brake he could have allowed the car to come back in 🤔🤷♀️
