Excellent video. Just the right amount of detail. I used it to retro fit a reversing camera to my X3.
this is great and very well detailed, created 4 years ago on 2017. Now you can simply get a rear and/or front camera via wireless/Bluetooth!. No more hassles on the running the cables!

I thought of installing a rear cam, but not after seeing this complicated process. Good video though.
You connect the rear cam to the front cam, then you have to figure out how to get the front cam powered in a suitable way. I would install a powerbank on the power cable, then the cams can be running for a while without draining the battery of the car.

Hi, I have 2012 BMW X3 with navigation but no back up camera. What parts should I buy and where to buy those parts so I can get back up camera?
I have a similar issue, mine is a 2012 bmw x3 with no backup camera and no navigation.
I have the same problem but with a my 2011 and 6.5" screen.
I think you/we just need a handle with a camera and then the cables, but then I guess that the camera must be coded in!
If there is no navigation system, I don't remember what head unit there might be.
I have a 2014 X3 not sure if is f25 but I would like to add a backup camera and CarPlay this only have small screen and Bluetooth only works to made phone calls not even to play music
Nowadays, 2023, much is possible, or better you have a couple of options to solve this problem. If you choose to use original BMW parts it will be quite expensive even if you buy second hand equipment.

By the way, I didn't hear if he mentioned what my this car was from. The kit and at least the cables must be "slightly" different depending on actual head unit (in the different my of F25).
In the E83 the system is even simpler. At least you have to know exactly what head unit you have, which also the F25 owners ought to know as the system is changed almost every year.
Thanks for this video! It got me all the way to 24:30 on the vid.. I did most of the install yesterday but got to the point where you disconnected the video cable from the back of the headunit... Mine didn't have one and after contacting Bimmertech they said with my model(2017X3) I would need to use the cable on the back of the lcd. Well once I removed that I can't figure out how to get that cable from up at the lcd down to behind the headunit.. it's only about 7 inches long and it's tied/bundled toward the back of the dash, I untaped one spot but it's still heading to the back of the dash. I have no idea what to remove next to get to that cable so I can run it down as well as the Video out cable from the mmi back up to the LCD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've emailed Bimmertech but after watching all your videos I figured you might know where to start. it's frustrating because everything's all connected ready to roll.. just cant get this figured out. thanks!

Do you know if the F31 rear door is set up the same way? I can't seem to find a video on the sportswagon.
Let me guess! Then I would say yes... All cameras work in the same way, and BMW use the same head units in all their cars. The difference is that they change head unit in the different models at different times.
Then it can be trickier to loosen the trim panels in one than in another.
Does your instructions work with the BMW models sold in Europe and other areas?

You're going to need coding and even with that it may not work. Your easiest solution is something like this kit
What's the difference between rear cam mode and rear view camera on the dip switches?
Let me guess! The back up camera is on only when you reverse, with other words that switch is connected to the "joystick" and it's position.
this only works on the F25. E83 X3, the is no boot handle reverse camera

The vidéo is good, but the man forget to explain that each model BMW car there different...between BMW x3 E83 or f25 all the system is different...the unit controls is different and the most important is year of manufacturer the car is very very important.......sorry for my English......

@@pincopallino8892But in this car there is a certain head unit, and this same head unit is installed in many other models, which means you can use the very same kit to run a back up camera.
The or one problem is that there are some slightly different head units also in different mys of F25, too.
