In the past I read and watched a lot of videos on how to fix this, I did not even need to watch this video to the end. Clear, straightforward, most helpful, it took me 7 minutes to sort 🙏
This is an excellent video. The first time my X3 backup lights failed, I was able to repair just by cleaning oxidation off all the contacts. Just recently one failed, and it turned out to be R750 chip resistor. I reflowed the solder very carefully and it is working! Now I can get the car inspected. Thank you.
You saved me $30 bucks from buying a new one suggested in other videos so thanks a lot! Mine had a crack in the exact spot yours did and was really hard to see. I took a pic and zoomed in on it then it was clear to see. Soldered it up and it worked!
Thank you SO much for sharing this video. Currently have this issue, and BMW wants $1,100 for the part. Thanks to this video, we are going to do it ourselves.
I nearly spend £250 on a new inner and outer taillight till I watched this vid. £23 later (off eBay) and they’re both fixed. Thanks for this vid. Much appreciated
Just tried this on my parents car and got the 3 broken ones working, saved them the 1200$ the shop was charging for 4 new taillights. Thanks allt dude!
Awesome dude for better results remove the old solder completely and use a more soft solder ... I have a video coming up in the next few days with a better solution replacing the driver itself for around £35 each
Such a great video! Unfortunately, I am working on the same X3 type in the video. All 4 tailights have been workin for years. I took them out and to my surprise not one of them has a PCB board from your video, just light bulbs. There is not even a slot for that circuit board. Any help with this? Im lost. All bulbs were replaced. Still nothing. Please help.
thanks for the troubleshoot guide, its funny bc even though its LED the e46 had a similar brake PCB board, and mine got coroded and i made a wire fix this just helped me figure out why my buddys x3 f25 rear brake light isnt illuminating
Hi, Good video! Both my rear LED lights failed recently. Took your advice and tried to replace both LED circuit boards x1 worked perfect, where as the other x1 did not. I have been advised that it could be the actual LED/light unit itself being faulty on the wiring and that I may need to purchase a new unit for about £100 each. Is the above advise correct ?
The LED tail lights are problematic on many BMWs, the E92 models have a slightly different circuit design but the faults still are caused by dry joints, LED light are rarely faulty it's usually the circuit board.
Exactly. Same as in my E60. And gotta crack open the tail lights to fix it too. Well better than spending a lot of money to replace the whole assembly I guess.
Good one, just manage to open the 2 series rear light on the chasis, undo the twisted part of connection and holla. £300 saved. Lol - Anything on 2 series how to open the rear lights would be great.
Going to try this on my inner rear light on F11. With the resistor, after cleaning up am I just dropping a dab or solder over it to bridge any hairline cracks? Sorry I haven’t got a clue when it comes to electrics but worth a chance to save a hundred quid!
Hi I'm just wondering if it is the chip that is faulty, should the reverse light not work as well? My reverse LED does not come on but Reverse Light does when I put the car into reverse. THanks
Similar problem with my X5 2011 inner tail gate LED´s. Probably it could be solved with a constant current chip like LDD300L. But what is the current on X5´s LED?
A really easy way to test without any special tool would be: test power and ground first from those 2 point that i showed 2:54 , if you have power and ground swap the board from the side that is not working for the one that it is, if the light start working you know is the board if it doesn't you know is the led ... 👍
This is a common problem with some led's for BMW. It's a bad design which overheats and causes the solder joints to dry. Before replacing the PCB, check for continuity on the bulb holder especially near the contacts + & - out to the PCB and lens.
The Chip you showed said 750 on the tail light outers is the chip still 750 for the inner lights you did on the second round
I’ve all three lights out in the exact same position. Will try this out and see
