    not only an alternative to SP.. but the Marmoset team are beasts at making tools performant and fluid.

      Would you recommend Marmoset to someone who has used Substance Painter in the past and wants to get back into texture painting? Looking at the Adobe page ... Marmoset is way cheaper than Substance ... (did Adobe increase the price lol?)

    i preach marmoset and i've work in the industry freelance for over a decade. i wont touch anything adobe or apple , and since 4 made a painter its been amazing. the bevel backing and UDIM is gonna to be a game changer for low poly workflow in 5 not to mention all the other stuff. plus the marmoset team is awesome and you can buy outright with updates .10/10

    Highly impressed with their new additions. This is truly a next version. Definitely I'll try it. Complete DCC application in a modest priced perpetual license. What they need is make pipeline feature so that people can come from other DCC applications.

      @ItsPBUH 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      perpetual doesn't really work, its way too expensive versus the monthly price. The advantage is you can use your version forever, but they update it every year, so whats the point. I have M4 perpetual and its cheaper to get the yearly sub, than to get M5 perpetual...

    I was just thinking they need to offer something that Painter doesn’t have. Then you spoke about the bevel shader, wow. Also painting landscapes is something that’s difficult in SP so it’s great that they are thinking about this use case.

    Marmoset is my default baker and preferred renderer. I like the interface much more than Substance's. I mainly use Substance Painter for texturing due to a certain plugin, but will definitely upgrade my Toolbag 4 license. I really want to play around with that bevel baking shader and I'm glad I don't have to go to Krita anymore to paint the anisotropic hair for stylized characters.

  • @ItsPBUH
    @ItsPBUH 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    My main problem with marmoset is the lack of tutorials. Say I want to learn texturing in Marmoset, I'm better off learning Substance and then switching to Marmoset... even though I own marmoset. It's a real shame, but if they could release up to date tutorials for different things, like stylised vs realistic, then it would elevate the package to Substance level

    Amazing! $399 for individual is a bit pricey, but overall is amazing thing, especially that permanent license available

    • @Elwaves2925
      @Elwaves2925 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Yeah, it seems pricey but paying the same amount monthly will give you less then 2 years. Seeing as this version will likely last longer than 2 years (Toolbag 4 lasted 4 years) makes it a no brainer if you have the cash up front.

    • @gamefromscratch
      @gamefromscratch  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      Its funny @Elwaves2925 as their pricing model actually makes it one of diminishing returns.
      The last release cycle was 4 years, so assuming a similar pattern in the future, buying right now is basically a 50% off sale if you use it for all 4 years. In 1 year, it's basically 25% off. In 2 years it's going to be pretty much a wash and in 3 years you're probably better off just subscribing till the next release.
      But yeah, if it fits your working, right now is literally the best time to buy it.

    The real strength of Substance Painter is that you can create a curvature map for your object and apply various filters to it, so that chipped paint, torn corners and the like don't have to be painted by hand but follow the geometry. There are now a few programs that allow you to paint on an object. However, these are not a real replacement for Substance Painter.

      Haven't tried 3D coat, i know a friend of mine used it. I don't like the UI on first sight, very cluttered and disorganized. I also wonder if it's just as powerful as this or SP.... This seems to come with a huge material library that's quite valuable

    In regards to the texturing, does Marmoset always have texture filtering on the same as SP, or can you work at a tiny pixelated level (64x, 128x, 256x) and still have sharp textures?

    The app is good but a lot of the smaller updates in this could have been put into 4, they didn't bother to updating it for almost a year before 5 came out. For example smaller things like the aliasing being fixed in the ID map could have been done for 4. So just keep in mind that near the end of the 2 years they'll likely stop updating in favor of the next version release. Not that I'm super against this but I'm a bit annoyed that they didn't do any kind of bug fixing either. Not to mention they'll tell you with a straight face they update the app every 6 months on instagram.
    They also have this weird hang up about not adding a use low as high even though that's been a feature request since the start of 4, opting for a silly duplicate workflow. If they ever add that feature expect it in 6 lol

    There are better synonyms to use than "Toolbag" IMHO. But they've already used it for 4 iterations so I guess many others feel it's just fine. Outside construction work, the word just has very bad negative connotations.

      The features are literally called tools. like hammers and screwdrivers. We can't use the word screwdriver anymore because the word screw also has a secondary meaning?

    • @jefreestyles
      @jefreestyles 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Why not take the extreme examples. I don't see anyone nowadays naming their kids Hitler or (insert slur). "Screw" is actually a positive name IMHO. "Screwed" would be the negative name. Good marketable names include Photoshop, Illustrator, Designer, "Toolset". What the heck is even a "Marmoset" (I imagine it's the animal) and what does it have to do with art? Just as bad as "Adobe" though but that name is now synonymous with professional artwork.
