I got a question if your window is 54x29 size if you do an insert window does your window become smaller for example if it is 1/2 inch frame the 54x29 will become 53x28 if it is a 1 inch frame your 54x29 window is know a 52x27
My understanding from watching other videos is yes, you do lose some glass area as you know have nearly two frames, sort of. IMHO, if you get energy savings and a nice looking window with no leaks, a win in my book.
They kept the original, deep, and slanted exterior sill. They put boards up, but the slanted bottom meant putting the window further up, leaving the bottom fatter than the rest, and the windows are not even flush with the siding, yet still have to be framed. I don't think my sill was in good shape, so WHY did they LEAVE the old SILL up and caulk OVER aluminum???!
