I got a 44 catchers glove about a year and a half ago and I’ve constantly hit it with a mallet and played catch with it and it’s still as strong as a brick 😂 getting pretty close to just resorting to steam or hot water cuz I’ve just lost all hope in the glove
Try putting it in the oven at 180 for like 5 mins at a time. Take it out an smack it with a mallet or I something similar for a few mins, back in the oven for another 5mins but rotate it. Do that 3,4 even 5 times. I knw so many dudes get in their feelings about this technique but I've done it to every one of my gloves and have never had a problem. Last glove I did it too was a $500 Nokona and a $300 a2000 before that
I’ve bought an ASICS catcher glove while I was in Japan, I forgot to ask the store to break it in so it was an absolute brick, it’s now been three days of pounding, rolling and hot watering and it still doesn’t close and is super stiff, I’m a bit hopeless ngl

dude some mf need this. I use my hs coaches glove, share it with the other catcher. We have the perfect break. Or had. The annoying kid decided he wanted to learn to catch, so coach let him in off time. First sesh happens, bro decides he doesnt like our break and somehow, I don't even know how, he made the pocket more shallow and the top and bottom aren't even anymore. I'm both pissed and impressed he ruined it that fast.
Broooo same thing happened last year to me and the sophmore catcher when i didn’t play catcher he would use my glove but it had a the best box break in but then he gets injured and I’m playing first base nearing end of the season and the other catcher from jv is pulled up and by the end of the game my mitts box break in was ruined it was closing thumb to middle finger

My Rawlings mitt will not close right the ball falls out every time the leather is stiff ima probably heat some hot water up at make the leather soft so I can mold it how I want it 😂

BUTT IF YOU WANT TO AVOID BUBBLES have someone throw a baseball at you but dont squeeze the glove or take balls off the machine without squeezing the glove just let the ball soften the leather. Dont “break the hinges” or roll anything cuz trying to squeeze stiff leather is what causes it to bubble . Just play catch with the glove (without squeezing) until its soft enough .
Wild idea: charge more money and have this done from the factory. Cheaper glove can get automated machines to tenderize or spray hot water shoot baseballs at it etc, and if you’re a white kid from Santa Barbra there can exist a company that does it by hand. kind of like guitars. Customized to you. why not? don’t want it don’t do it but it’s an option
