    💬 LESSON DESCRIPTION:
I hope you're doing well and that you're safe and healthy.
I had a rough week recovering from COVID but I'm feeling a million times better now.
I'm working on finishing up my TH-cam series about playing classical guitar without nails, and as part of my research I reached out to one of the foremost experts on the subject, Rob MacKillop.
Rob was very generous. We recorded an hour long interview and it was amazing!
BUT most of the audio turned out to be unusable due to an unfortunate error :/
However, some of it was okay, so I grabbed a little piece of it to share with you this week.
This is a clip from the interview where Rob drops some serious wisdom about finding and protecting your unique voice as a musician.
It's a short and light little video that I hope will induce some reflection and provide some comfort and inspiration.
I hope you enjoyed this video of Rob MacKillop sharing his wisdom and found it beneficial. Let me know what you thought in the comments.
    Thanks! :)
    - Jared

What a crazy crossover. I first saw Rob like 8 years ago of him playing banjo.

Thanks for posting this Jared. Rob's comments are spot on. I am so glad I came across this. Trying to find your unique voice is the fun part of the journey. But yes, tuning out the noise is a challenge!

I found and been subscribing to Rob's channel for probably 4 years now and am a beginner when it comes to classical playing. There is something about Rob that attracted me to his channel and I guess it was the fact that I do not have nails and was probably the reason I came across his channel when I searched classical guitar playing without nails. I also find him very humble man! I'm a fan of Rob! Great post and profound message!!!

Rob is one of my heros when it comes to classical guitar, and his laid back philosophy has as much to do with that as does his playing without nails. (incidentally, another of my favorites is Brandon Acker, who also is a no-nails player as someone not afraid to use a strap as a guitar support - he's a double heretic - but the expressiveness of his playing should be enough to convince even dogmatic classical guitarists that being heretical isn't such a bad thing). Personally, I love working with my hands, and long nails just get in the way, and I'm glad to see somewhat of a movement back to no-nails style.

Maybe it’s slightly serendipitous that the one chunk of gold you salvaged is the perfect tonic to the endless scroll of wisdom which is the internet (and especially guitar content online!)
As I’m clearly a devoted Jared ‘Long Pather’, this really resonates, as I’m picking more up off the path in a sequenced order, I’m find spots and way to really grow, listen and play as my creative spirit or my emotion at the moment wishes..
Loved the video, followed, look forward to round 2!
    Thank you as ever 🙏

What does being yourself *mean* ? The things he's saying sound good, but I confess I'm not sure what it means in a practical sense. Does it mean "don't try too hard to sound exactly like some specific other player"?

    • @soundguitar
      @soundguitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, that's a great interpretation! Only you can know what it means to you. But not sounding exactly like someone else seems like a great start.
