- Tantanka by Apache. Tatanka is the American Indian (Lakota) word for buffalo or actually bison. As far as I know, art paintings were created prior to 1929. Copyright has expired, and these images are in the public domain commons.

What a lot of people don't know is that bison ranged all over North America. In the east they foraged in the forest, in the great plains they ranged in huge herds. Even up north where I live there were bison herds. There is a Cree historical site in my province where they drove bison off of cliffs as a means of harvesting them. One successful buffalo run would feed and clothe several families for a whole year.
Alot of people also don't know is their is bison in Europe and the many other bison species that once roamed the Siberian steppe and ancient prarries of the pleistocene epoch. Currently there's only 3 the plains bison (American Buffalo)

Thankyou for posting this video. My 7 yr old nephew is learing about the Great Plains Tribes and their migrating with their teepees to follow the buffalo herds. THIS WAS A GREAT eductional tool to reinforce what he's learning! We enjoyed talking and comparing what he's learned with the images in your video. And the music was beautiful. God Bless you!
