How can you "keep it local" when an out of state company buys local land being used for local consumption? There needs to be more of a concerted effort between the State and agriculture. Groceries are already expensive and getting more so.
Doesn't really make sense to have a cattle ranch on Oahu. The big island has some of the largest cattle ranches in the US and already ends up exporting live cattle because there isn't enough meat processing on the island. There are feral cattle all over the big island. Molaki Ranch is 55,000 acres and hasn't had cattle in decades because they can't operate profitability over imported beef from Brazil.
Biden and company want everyone to be vegans. cows contribute to climate change with all there farting. Bird flu is destroying chickens and well pork is getting to be like beef. Its more than food control its about controlling every aspect of your life. Like obama said from cradle to grave the day will come when government will take care of everything.

On the Big Island had a bad experience with Bishop. Old Hawaiian family was given land from Kamehameha time. South of Kelakakua Bay. Lady died the sons couldn't keep up with the property tax. Bishop offered through their haole lawyers pennies of what the property was worth. Lady's boss heard about it and offered to buy the land for more than the value. Local haole helping local family. No thanks to Bishop. Now they bad mouthing the Hawaiian family for selling that they no care for the Hawaiians. They only trying to make ends meet and not go on welfare.
Some things in Hawaii should be protected as a historical part of island life. That should be the Paniolo Working Museum,Cultural Center and Open Space Conservation Area. The State should gladly pay for it. Visitors would gladly pay for a horseback ride through those green fields. Hay rides for the kids. Sell local cheese,beef jerky and produce. Throw lasso,milk a cow,ride the mechanical bull. Learn the history of ranching, the life of the early Paniolos and their legendary skills. Get away from the usual tourist places for a bit of old Hawaii and know your dollars are supporting a vanishing lifestyle. These are things you can't get back once lost. If the ships ever stopped bringing food everyone would starve. It's critical to preserve agriculture,farms and ranches.
