They do pick at your skin to make it bleed and sometimes tear pieces of fresh flesh off your body to consume. its not always oh let me get those ticks of you.
What a tense life. Out here trying to vibe at the spa, but have to keep your head on a swivel for lions and such. Chewing that gum extra hard trying to stay cool 😂😂
@@heromedley Not because of the beak, but because the tick's teeth are embedded deep into the skin. It also has little to do with magpies and crows, as ticks cause scarring. They are seasoned hunters.
THis is such a beautiful symbiose. I love this so much and is also frightens the shit out of me to see how dependent the creatures on this planet are one way or another.
Lol, you realise that these birds are not exactly a good example of a symbiose, recent studies have shown they could, in some case, be considered parasites of their hosts as they would be opening wounds in order to feed from their bloods.
Not symbiosis. Oxpeckers are now thought to be parasitic - they eat ticks, but not for the animal's benefit, and they'll also drink their blood if there's any open wounds.
what usually is never shown is that if those birds find open wounds, they do keep those wounds open and fresh to attract more insects. its not a perfect symbiose as always shown. source: being a zookeeper specializing in birds
@@instantautopsy7581 Yes, hindering the healing process by keeping the wound fresh and pecking away any scabs that form so insects get attracted to it.
Some to help the antelope. The antelope may or may not know how mother nature has sent the antelope a little bird to remedy them from horrible disease carrying ticks!!! Hooray!!!
I used to have eczema and very fine flakes of skin on my face. A friend's parakeet used to like sitting on my shoulder and do something similar to this with my face. We'd joke about it being a humanitarian but boy did I feel less itchy afterwards!
It's amazing to think that despite both Australia and Africa both having ticks oxpeckers only evolved in Africa, looking at the poor roos in the dry up here and seeing the crows going after the fully engorged ticks gives me the heavy jeebies
That's what I was thinking. I 'wanna be groomed like that! I have ticks. I mean...I COULD have ticks, how can an Oxpecker know; if it doesn't check, right?
I bet that feels so good to the animals they groom
I just need them to come go through my hair bc I know I’d be knocked out
Four legged mammals love being scratched in areas they cant reach themselves
Yes and no these birds are more like parasites look up ox peckers on giraffe it will change ur outlook on these birds quite a bit I would imagine.
@@andrewhan7381 two legged ones as well and by that I mean me. Lol

I was thinking this guy was like narratating from a bush 300 feet away, when he zooms out to his truck parked 3 feet away.
It did caught me off guard but also made me laugh because of how smooth the transition was.
More like 10 feet
🤣
Ha! He's in a lawn chair 3 feet away!🤣
Service fee must be expensive for such detailed work.
Comes in the form of infected wounds.
They drink blood from time to time
free food = service fee

I wonder if the antelope knows exactly what they're doing. Regardless, pretty fascinating.
I sure yes, same with hippos, hippo even opens their mouth and let oxpecker to do their job.
Heh, well do not let them be too comfortable, they open wounds on purpose as well
They know whats going on just like they know a source of water or food.
Yeah man, those two birds have a hair salon together.
Doesnt need to it lets nature do its job. We as fellow animals should do the same

Didn't see any horns on those birds but you do you.
We need birds like that in America.
Deers have so many ticks here
i heard crows also eat deer ticks but they hurt the deer with their beaks
@@heromedley true but it definitely beats having ticks in the long run
The northeast for sure!!
Man, ticks are so bad in the pine barrens in New Jersey right now, I wish I had some of these birds for after I get done running.

ecosystems are like a web, take away one piece and every single other piece in the web is impacted, this is why this planet is screwed by our greed
Lol, you realise that these birds are not exactly a good example of a symbiose, recent studies have shown they could, in some case, be considered parasites of their hosts as they would be opening wounds in order to feed from their bloods.
They are saying that these birds cauaed wounds on the antelopes to get infected. So......
Not symbiosis. Oxpeckers are now thought to be parasitic - they eat ticks, but not for the animal's benefit, and they'll also drink their blood if there's any open wounds.
@@shaa3995 They don’t drink the blood, they eat the scabs
Instead of pecking and stabbing, they’re doing a lovely job of brushing through the fur
Probably more effective going through like that

no not they only eat the dead scabs and infected flesh of the wound not the meat itself.
