    Man, I love your videos. Having worked on the trades for nearly 30 years I’ve learned one thing…
    The best journeymen (and women) are the ones who can explain the technical shit and make it sound easy! ⚡️👍

    Just want to thank you Dustin for all the videos man. I have been an apprentice for four years and took my journeyman test yesterday and passed. Your videos have taught me more than I ever learned in class. Keep up the good work.

    Have these smart breakers all over my building, it’s nice to switch to manual when the main controller is calling for it to be off.

  • @prestonjmathis

    I installed 3 leviton panels with smart breakers. Each breaker had wifi so no low voltage wiring. Homeowner wanted to be able to monitor his usage and shut off loads when grid was down and was on batteries/solar.

    As a cybersecurity specialist, I don't know how I feel about smart breakers. Are they really necessary? Or does it just open an attack vector that can easily be eliminated by having a minimum-wage staffer onsite ready to reset the breaker when monitoring notices the equipment is down?

    • @Morberis
      @Morberis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not all of these require cloud service to operate. When I've seen these they've all been managed locally on a separate network. They're great for being able to easily detect breaker faults.

      @arisacharya4895 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we renovated the Lowe's where I work in January the electrician was annoyed that the display breakers would shut off after closing and each time he needed one on he had to wake someone up to turn it on it was shorter than finding someone with the electrical room key. I had a bay of chandeliers before the reno that they would not turn back on for me annoying the customers

    • @DapperChe
      @DapperChe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have more than a good show at becoming one. The trades are dying because the older generations are on their way out, and there’s not too many young people eager to do this type of work. If i was you, after high school i would try to apply to the electrical union where you are from, or a trade school for electricians, and if those two fail, than apply as an electrician helper, and you will learn on the job. I hope this helps you, good luck

      Mate I joined a month after high school of 2017. I got one more year to go and I turn out. If you do join the trade it’s worth it. Have a positive attitude, don’t be late, don’t let no one force you to do something unsafe. I learned so much since I first joined. It’s all about taking in a little bit of something new you learn each day and it gets easier

    I had a question. I am renovating my parent's house. I installed outdoor lights and an electric heater for common space. This may be two questions. I want to control when the outdoor lights go on and off remotely. I want to control the common space electric heater remotely also. The outdoor lights are direct to the panel as well as the electric heater. They are of different voltages. Can you make a suggestion on how I can do this?

    Question, home user , could it be use on home with a back up generator? This could shed load to protect the generator and add also, like shed AC unit when hot water heater come in ??

    • @jondowd11
      @jondowd11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think I'd want to constantly cycle the breaker of equipment like an AC unit. If I was concerned about running both loads at the same time I'd probably have some kind of interlock to stop the call for cooling whenever there was a call for heat from the hot water heater, but then my concern would be short-cycling the AC unit. Is your service undersized?

    Cyber Security: (Question) Should we have everything connected to cloud (web)?
    A house or the grid in the 1950s could not be hacked be bad players (or a paper ballot).
    But now theoretically bad players can shut down our electric grid, a bad actor can mess with a homeowners unlock our doors, turn off our refrigerator, and the HVAC system etc. I love the potential of the Internet but risk assessment and the old adage keep it simple stupid.

    Cool! So when the clowns in Washington and the various State houses allow sleeper cell electricians to install smart breakers in panels controlling power to critical infrastructure, the Chinese, North Koreans, Iranians, Taliban, whatever, don't have to try and take down the whole power grid, they can just select which assets they want to shut down and de energize them. Brilliant! Or...some 14 year old kid can cut the power to his physics teacher's house. The possibilities are endless and the mind boggles. Excuse me while a adjust my aluminum foil helmet, or, do those concerns have some merit? Just sayin'.

  • @theprofessorfate6184

    Better have another low voltage line to report how the breaker failed and needs to be replaced. More garbage "engineering" that nobody needed. They can't even get AF breakers to be reliable, much less this shit.
