The converse was honestly the first “cool” sneaker I ever owned and bought with my money. I was in the 7th grade and I was tired of wearing target & Walmart shoes. I’ve owned several pairs since and this shoe will always have a special place in my heart.

For me it is that I always had to wear good supporting shoes that we're not ugly but not what a kid would want to wear. So when I eventually got to what you americans call high school I bought my first pair of sneakers. And those we're All Stars. The black low one's in particullar. And now 11 years later I'm a student who got a job at Converse for in the weekends and holidays. And I love it.

Here in Malaysia during the 90's to 00's, only rich kids wearing all star to school. I had to save up my angpao/duit raya and school allowance to buy it back then. My 1st pair of Converse was Jack Purcell though. But one thing for sure, Converse only looking real good once the sole "peeled up". 😂

I never understood why the Chuck 2s never took off. I owned a pair and though they were definitely better then the original. Both in comfort and durability. But thankfully Converse came out with the Street Hitops which are a big improvement over the original All Stars. The newest version with the pull loop for the tongue and rear pull loop have added padding under the heel. The All Star Street Hightops are way easier to put on like a regular sneaker and they also seem to last longer then regular All Stars. If you add in some arche support inserts, you have a timeless shoe that's really comfortable to wear all day.

But Converse had other models that you see Larry Bird and others wear in the late 1970 to 1980's. I had a pair of these at one point in the 1990's that were like a Converse version of the Superstar. They were on sale as an old model on high discount. Those models have a weird triangle C and the classic Star on them.

Btw those flat soles converse shoes have are still very popular with a not small segment of the gym goers that love the heavy weights and like the stability and sort of error-proof capabilities they provide (as in, allows sort of a lab-control capability in regards to the foot game involved in the movements, since in kinda protects the ankles and more importantly, because the sole isn’t excessively thick and isn’t angled, the body movements in relation to the angles involved in the movements you do (specially in deadlift and squat although some prefer the angled shoes Olympic lifters use for squatting) remains the same as if you were barefooted but with the advantage of a better friction than if only on socks or barefooted. Also, it kinda helps protecting your foot, but obviously any accident involving your foot will have its consequences

Make sense with me. The sole actually pretty flat similar to squatting shoes. Man that's super interesting! haha Maybe we can do a whole video on the role of shoes in fitness or something. Bummed I left this out on this video but it's too late now. Anyway thanks so much for sharing this man. You've inspired me

NachoAverageFinds thanks for answering didn’t even expect it. Your scripts are very eloquent, I didn’t even knew Converse was that old as in older than my 88 soon to be 89 years old grandpa, and that those were the first athletic shoes! Keep it up .

Even today All Stars still do have at least one strong point in the athletic world, as lifting shoes. Pretty much every lifter will tell you all stars are among the best bang for the buck lifting shoes, while looking sharp and classic too. Don't forget the Chuck 70s too, much more comfortable and durable, they seem to have succeeded where the Chuck 2's failed.

I still hoop in them sometimes but I always have to size up to spread my toes more. The Chuck 70 is an upgrade that was successful, but originals still are the most versatile and comfy.

@@NachoAverageFinds The CT '70 (or the Chuck '70) is the best version of the standard original shoe today. Maybe the Converse II or 2 is the same thing, I bought mine brand-new when they were just called the '70 back in 2014. I have a yellow and a black pair. The midsole is very soft and the canvas is much higher quality. Almost like a brand-new shoe from the 1970s. I have a high in-step and medium arch, sometimes these are the most comfortable shoes I own.
The most below average and piss poor shoe I've ever owned is the old Converse (the redesigned off-shore one from the mid '90s that everybody only remembers these days. Sad) WHICH is the one I actually grew up with. They are the most uncomfortable sneaker of all time. A product of 1990s off-shore mass production.
I'm glad I saw Rocky II otherwise I probably wouldn't have researched a good new pair of Converse. He wore the same model that the '70 is based off. It's seriously a legitimate old-school shoe. It goes to show that the 1970s were all about these shoes when you weren't at the office, the disco, or any formal engagement. If you're from the midwest or south, that's a different thing XD. Hope you learned something my man.

I really enjoyed my pair of All-Star 2s... EXCEPT for the fact that they did away with the stripe the Midsole. It just made the shoe look "off." Otherwise it was the perfect travel shoe. The versatility of a Chuck to wear with just about any outfit, but with a modern insole to support walking all over town.
