The Ryzen 3's integrated GPU is using those 2GB or RAM for video memory. That's why you're seeing a bit less "usable" RAM. You're using it all, just for different functions.
@@aaronha998 The Ryzen 3000 series APU/CPUs shouldn't have any incompatibility issue with 16gb of ram especially if it's from a well known brand like Crucial. Only 1000 and some 2000 series APU/CPUs had those issues. Either you have a dead SO-DIMM slot or you need to troubleshoot it thru the bios. Put it should work if placed correctly without needing to do anything special.

However, the APU in this laptop will not be able to leverage all that RAM in games or productivity, even 16 gb is a bit much because the laptop will get pinned at 100% long before it can use even allocate 16 gb of ram let alone 32 gb.
Thanks for the video! FYI I just added an 8GB stick into the extra RAM slot and left the 4GB one that the laptop shipped with and it's running fine. Shows 12GB in my system info view. I saw a comment on the Acer support forum saying it should work so that's why I tried it. Give it a shot!
The only problem with that is your going to have a significant decrease in memory speed. You would probably be better off just running the single 8 gig stick or buy another so it will run in dual channel.

Run stress tests and bench marks to confirm and compare test with 12 gig and 8 gig. Yes it will work, but it will hinder your speeds. Whatever works for you is fine though bud, I'm just glad people still have the balls to work on their own machine.

I've read that disconnecting the battery when you only use AC power will save the battery and keep it fresh if you ever do want to use battery. That's not true?

Great video... the reason that you don’t have the whole 8 gigs is very similar to the reason that you won’t have the whole 500 gigs of a 500gb hard drive... on a hard drive some of the memory is dedicated to important system data to make the computer or laptop run, in a similar way some of the ram is solely dedicated to you’re graphics card to help it run and make things smoother, without that dedicated memory for your GC (graphics card) your computer or laptop would either not run at all or you would have a lot of skipping on the screen for even the simplest of tasks like typing a Word doc for example. Also if you’d like for an even better performance, the more ram the better the performance, that specific model of laptop can go up to 32 gigs of ram with either a single 32 gig ram slot or a duel slot of 2 16gb ram sticks.
I'm just scared that I'm going to break one of the pins on the ram our battery because I'm waiting until Black Friday to get the laptop and the 4 bg ram for my birthday.
13.9 of RAM is usable atm, 2.0 RAM is being used for my GPU or integrated graphics card. As for performance, everything in general is a bit quicker and my Minecraft game runs silky smooth now, before it was choppy with the FPS (Frames Per Second)

The reason you only seeing 5.94gb memory is because this laptop uses an APU (CPU+GPU together), and its reserving 2gb out of the 8gb for the graphics card of the APU, you might be able to assign the amount on the bios. This is one of the reasons that i would suggest to get another 8gb to end up with 16gb, to me 8gb is the bare minimum to run windows 10 today, and if you are a chrome user or even a multi tasker 8gb is way bordland of being short, 16gb would be a lot better, specially thinking that the apu reserves memory for the graphics card.
Can anyone assist me? I installed an 8gb ram stick from A-tech components, and my keyboard will light up and it shows that my computer is turned on but the screen is black.
So my computer was just delivered. Nice screen, solid build but when having a couple tabs open in Chrome, the fan keeps coming on. Would adding an additional 8gb of RAM fix this? I need to use chrome for work so either I fix this or it has to go back. Thanks

CAS latency is 19 from the looks of it. It's not going to matter much with such a budget machine my man. The whole laptop is budget AF, which is okay with me, but let's not get pretend that it's a ASUS ROG Zephyrus S with a RTX2080ti, 240hz IPS panel calibrated to a 0.5 ms respond rate with anti-lag software to really being worrying about CAS latency. That CL 11 RAM you might find will set you back 150USD for 16gb or 130 USD for 8gb in dual channel for a laptop that was 300 bucks, dunno if that's a good idea. HDD/SSD bay is 7mm only. The responds rate is 30ms on mine which I had find out myself, because on nowhere did they mention it, 30 ms isn't worth mentioning. I overclocked the screen to a refresh rate of 75 hz as well . Respond rate was the same no matter the refresh rate of the monitor was set.

Shouldn't be an issue although ram speed might fall to default 2133mhz since it's 8+ 4 or it might not change and say 2666mhz but under perform only way to tell is to test it, but i doubt you have an extra 4 gb stick to compare. By under performing i mean like 3%less compared to 2 sticks of 4 or 8. Although sometimes thier is no loss or less then 1% to make a difference. Laptops are like that because every model has a custom solution. Do it anyways. Won't matter in real life usage. Just make sure you use ram that uses 1.2 volts. Don't ever mess with voltage in a laptop by using ram that use 1.35 v, it might work or it might not end well.

Can someone please help me. I just got my ram and did everything that the video suggested I do, before and after. But my screen goes dark after turning it on. So I tried other methods to get rid of the dark screen but to no avail. So I reinstalled my old ram and my computer started working perfectly fine like nothing happened. I double-checked the ram to see if I bought the wrong one but I checked on crucial again and everything seems in line. So far nothing I tried has worked, please Help! Oh! I’d say your good with 8GB for browsing, videos and basic games. Pretty much if you don’t have to run any heavy programs this is good enough. If you have to have many programs opened at the same time that consume a lot of RAM (premiere pro, AutoCAD, etc.) I recommend 16GB. Finally, since I have 16 already installed on this computer the performance is amazing.

It’s because part of the memory is allocated to the integrated GPU. The max memory size that is allowed for this GPU is 2GB. Conveniently the size that you’re missing. Edit: O you found out yourself!
Damn! I’m having the same problem. I added a 4GB stick for a total of 8GB but my system is showing only 6GB as usable. I watched to see if you had an answer for me but I guess you are just as clueless as I am.
I did some research and apparently the GPU doesn’t use its own RAM. So, it’ll feed off of your systems RAM and in my case when I press the Windows Key + G under the GPU tab it says 2.0 GB of RAM. There is probably a way to configure that but as of now I’m not sure how.
DivineSage115 That makes sense because I’m not running Windows 10, I’m running Linux Mint and it shows only 6GB available. Another observation I made was that I believe I installed 2400 RAM instead of the 2666 that it comes with. Somewhere I read that when you put a slower RAM with a quicker one the system clocks down to the slower one. Let’s not give up hope LMK if you find out anything else I’ll do the same.

The same thing happened to me, I'm looking around and trying to figure out different ways to fix it. But for now, I just reinstalled my old ram. I'll let you know when I fix it, maybe it'll help you out too.
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that getting mismatched ram sizes forces the higher capacity of ram to drop down to the other as equals (e.g pairing 8GB and 4GB ram sizes makes the 8GB stick drop down to 4GB).

Interesting to know that if install two sticks of ram they have to be the same size thank you for that
They can be different like one 4 and one 8 but it’ll be less efficient. Two of the same sizes would be taking full advantage of dual channel speeds.

It’s because part of the memory is allocated to the integrated GPU. The max memory size that is allowed for this GPU is 2GB. Conveniently the size that you’re missing.

Damn! I’m having the same problem. I added a 4GB stick for a total of 8GB but my system is showing only 6GB as usable. I watched to see if you had an answer for me but I guess you are just as clueless as I am.
I did some research and apparently the GPU doesn’t use its own RAM. So, it’ll feed off of your systems RAM and in my case when I press the Windows Key + G under the GPU tab it says 2.0 GB of RAM. There is probably a way to configure that but as of now I’m not sure how.
DivineSage115 That makes sense because I’m not running Windows 10, I’m running Linux Mint and it shows only 6GB available. Another observation I made was that I believe I installed 2400 RAM instead of the 2666 that it comes with. Somewhere I read that when you put a slower RAM with a quicker one the system clocks down to the slower one. Let’s not give up hope LMK if you find out anything else I’ll do the same.

Mismatched capacity of ram sticks has nothing to do with anything lul They sell laptops with 4GB soldered to the board and 8GB in a slot...
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that getting mismatched ram sizes forces the higher capacity of ram to drop down to the other as equals (e.g pairing 8GB and 4GB ram sizes makes the 8GB stick drop down to 4GB).
