with the drain and fill, I was able to take out 3.2 quarts but when I added 3.7 quarts or it was actually a whole bottle of the max by Val in the bottle says 3.78 anyways when I drain the car by taking the drain off 2 quarts came out and I’m not sure if my car had extra transmission fluid or not
Hi there just wanted some clarification, so if I accidentally overfilled, get the transmission up to temp, and open the drain plug on the bottom, but not the second plastic ones that comes out?? Is the drain plug main purpose just let out excess transmission fluid?
Ahhh okay, thanks for the quick response? I suspect my transmission is low because I smell burning I just want to make sure I can add extra and then just do what you said to remove any excess
The car has to be warm and running in park to set the correct level. You pull the level plug and let the excess fluid drain until its trickling/fast dripping
@@BuiltForSpeedi’m confused cause if u put back the amount of fluid u took out in the first place and it drains some when your done.. wouldn’t the transmission then technically be low on fluid?
well i took out both drain bolts, drained out 3.2 quarts. put back in the bolts, put in 3.7 quarts ( a whole jug of valvoline max life) and then i shifted car through gears and let it drain while leveled. weird thing tho i drained out 2 quarts before it started dripping
Hello so you put in the 4 quarts and some still came out when you were check the level at the temperature 114 F, so in the end it did end up taking up like around 3.7 quarts? Awesome video
Hello if I just want to drain and refill the transmission is this the same process, refilling the transmission do I take the level out first or leave it in
Has I can see it seems you wait a bit too long before putting the plug back when the overflow oil is dripping. th-cam.com/video/eRxSu4-4ojo/w-d-xo.html at 12:45
Great step-by-step video !
Easy to follow by any DIY'ers!
Thanks !!!
Great video and great job! Very informative, you know your stuff, friend.

Pretty much yes. The drain plug purpose when the car is warm in park idling you pull the drain plug only and not the tube from inside.

Hi could you please explain the end of the video more is it necessary to repeat the last step with the car on and the transmission fluid draining

@surronboys confused about? You usually want to put abit more fluid then you drained warm up the car to the temp and all excess will drain out.

I don't remember from top of my head whatever i mentioned in the video.
Good diy

Atleast loosen it to make sure you can take it out to fill it.
Is there a gasket or crush washer on the drain plug?
Good morning! Is it the same process for a manual transmission?
I didn’t get what you were doing from 10:32 in the video
Also do you think the dealership would do this service?
Yes dealership will do it. And i was setting level.
Can i use valvoline oil for this? The oil has all specification por this transmission.
Yes just make sure it has all specs.
@@BuiltForSpeed ok thank you my friend.
Thanks for the info
hello were do you buy the idemitsu trans oil ????
Napa
Arnt you able refill it from the transmission oil dip stick hole???
There is no dip stick in this vehicle.
@@BuiltForSpeed I see, I have a 2013 Scion TC that has a dip stick, so could I fill mine from there?
@MOAON_AABE yes. Fill from there and check fluid level there.
@@BuiltForSpeed do I check before or after I cycle through all gears???
@@MOAON_AABE after you cycle it through gears and let it warm up for about 5-10min
What’s a good transmission fluid besides Toyota OEM , currently at 98k miles , 2.5 tc
Amsoil, valvoline, liqui moly.
Do you know the torque specs for the transmission Pan and filter
I believe about 6-7ft lbs if i remember correctly
@@BuiltForSpeed thank you
You put a new gasket on? How much was it? And where did you buy it from?
From Napa autoparts locally.
Thank You!
What if when I accelerate I here a whining noise ? Also today it dripped a bunch of red fluid on the floor. What could be wrong with my car
Where is it leaking from? If its red its transmission leaking somewhere. I would try to see where its leaking from.
@@BuiltForSpeed what could be some possibly spots that it would leak from ? My scion tc has 153000 and I don’t think they ever changed the atf

You wait until it teickles(drips fast) then close it when it gets to proper temp.
I found my '11 TC is being pretty clunky and hard with the shifts. Maybe its time for a transmission fluid change huh?
I would definitely change the fluid and filter.
Hey what exactly did u use to take out the filter? Was it a socket?
It's held by 2 bolts. Once you remove those it pulls out.
Where did you fill the oil ???????
