This can be bracketed at least in part with the memorable performance of Gunnar Johansen from years ago; Gunnar who recorded all of Busoni's piano music (also his Piano Concerto) was indeed qualified to perform the complete series: He also recorded complete series of Bach, Liszt and Freidman (also had time for an historical series of concerts).
Anyone so unlucky as to have purchased Madge's 4-CD set of the complete Godowsky-Chopin Etudes should know that he is capable of both great and terrible recorded performances. The above-mentioned Godowsky set was purely awful, as if he was playing each piece for the first time. So be forewarned: Madge can be all over the map as far as his performances go.
I mean no offence when I say, that I don't understand why people like this kind of music. Can someone please explain me, what do you like about this music, what is it so good about it? Thanks, I really want to know.
People like music when it opens up an emotional space for them. A lot of what makes this possible is prior experience, what someone has responded to before, especially music which is attached to prior important experience, especially during childhood.
What a wonderful composition this is. Busoni is the culmination of all the great keyboard composers.
He's like the spiritual successor to Liszt.
I've studied this prelude in the past and it sounds like a good rendition to me
*_* mitico Ferruccio!! Sei tornato alla carica con una gran bella perla Astathis, Thanks!
Busoni non è conosciuto ed eseguito come meriterebbe.
Grazie per averlo postato.
Carichi sempre dei video molto interessanti!

Thanks, keep on making videos!
@Noshirm Thanks for enlightening me further!
Sounds a little like Liszt if he would've lived longer...
Dolce
The prelude is indeed wonderful ! I agree that the rendition is a bit "spineless".
Am I right in thinking Geoffrey-Douglas Madge was largely self-taught as a pianist?
Sounds like Debussy and Ravel

Believe me, this music is quite accessible compared to other forms. It can still be acoustically understood. There's FAR worse.
It's the harmonies. It just sounds interesting and is stimulating for people who like music Theory.

It’s actual music, not just words thrown on top of a beat. It has substance.
The thing is, expressionist elements can be really interesting, but you have to forget how bad its being played
@OrangeSodaKing Interesting. I thought I'd read somewhere that he was, but now I know better!
Amazing piece, it's only sad that it sounds as if Madge learned the piece 2 hours before recording.
what a boring way to end this piece.
Someone should have studied more...like a lot
