Really unusual pieces by Busoni. N°3 is a bit long compared to the number of ideas brought by Busoni : ten ideas per minute is better than ten minutes for one single idea... But it is a great contribution to post romantic Etudes art (with Scriabin, Alkan, Rachmaninoff and Debussy). Happy to learn it.
Very different from Wolf Harden's version, but seems a little more expressive. But this being composed when Busoni was in his late teens is nothing less than amazing.
In what regard is it a clunker? Do you have a score, and have you spent the time required to study (a) the piano writing and (b) the orchestration ? And what of the Fantasia Contrappuntistica-is that a clunker, too ?
Agreed. While Liszt was almost certainly the greatest pianist of his age, with the exception of the works of Chopin, a very small number of pieces, (though Alkan is practically mainstream now), pretty much all the work of virtuoso composers of his day, who were likely truly fine pianists, even though it was the heyday of virtuosos, has sunk into complete oblivion. Busoni's works really aren't so worthless are what was written by most of his contemporary vituosos, or the Henselts, Dreyshocks, and Thalbergs of an age previous to him, but he was no Liszt, or Chopin, or Alkan, or for that matter, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc., who were excellent interpreters and composers. Even Godowsky was very much his superior in composition.

thank you for a wonderful Busoni piece!
Six incredibles and obscures MASTERPIECES
Very musical!
The second seems a reminiscence from "La Campanella"
Busoni Bussin
most posts show complete misunderstanding of music
No. 3 in particular is very reminiscent of one of Alkan's short pieces.
Hardly surprising since Busoni programmed Alkan's music in recital.
No. 2 ist very nice.
+guillatra ist...
I meant "is" without the "t".
Alkan Goes Contrapuntal!
There are many instances where Alkan is contrapuntal, this is hardly in his style, and he wrote etudes far superior to these.
Sounds... Alkanian!

needs more dubstep
a bit boring
to me- it is sad that with all his talent-busoni remains so "second rate"- i like the chopin variations- but the concerto is a clunker and...
His 24 preludes are very neat, it's the best Busoni work I've ever listened to. I agree on the concerto, though.
