I find adding a lot of fuel to the cold start helps it start a lot quicker when cold on e85. My car cold starts like it's on petrol, but it doesn't like being loaded up until it's been running for a little bit.

With no decent breather the crank case pressure will be pushing oil out past the old turbos front seal and filling ya pipes. There are heaps of hybrids out there. TD06 or smaller TD05 rear with a garrett 60-1 front end would see you at 250+ TD06SL2-Garrett 60-1. VR4 - Evo 3 4bolt. Heaps of china ones around now. Or maybe splash on a gtx3076r. 300+. Or the smaller 28.

Go with a FP turbo, either an fp green or red. GREAT response and can make LOTS of power.

Many moons ago on a hh vr4 we went with a Chinese Td05 20g and a eboost elec controller. The standard accuator(internal gate) had to be swapped as china turbos had a huge spring.
Ran at 20 psi all day. had same bottom and mid as per vid but a couple extra hp up top. bolt on item for 300 bucks.
otherwise new manifold/ exhaust intercooler plumbing etc....hello a couple of grand!!!

Mate I've got a gtx3071r gen2 on my gsr, forged 1.8l custom t3 manifold obviously. Weekend car making over 300awkw on 98, as you said this is HEAPS for a light awd car, you may even be able to take an rx8. I'm running an ecmLink with speed density setup.
Definitely stick to something like a 2871r stock frame, so much less messing around. I had a kinugawa before building this engine and even on the stock 1.8 it spooled well. As you know many hours on the tig as soon as you decide to change turbo frame.
I added another -10 fitting to my valve cover running into a baffled catch can, plumbed back into the intake, works a treat.

I dont want to sound like a keyboard warrior. Im just trying to share whats worked for me in all my e85 swaps. If this helps you, awesome. If it doesnt, thats fine too.
Try turning your cranking fuel way up. You wont flood it. Its because the first fire is on petrol fumes, the ethanol doesnt vapourise when cold cranking. 200% increase in cold cranking fuel under 30*C isnt uncommon to get e85 to start. Your post crank enrichment looks bang on though so I'd leave that alone, and your hot cranking sounds fine too. You absolutely can get e85 to coldstart like stock. All my e85 cars fire on the first hit of the key even in the snow.
For economy; I'd recommend going to 1.05 lambda up to 90kpa, then rapidly tapering down to your target lambda at 100kpa upwards. This still gets you all your rapid spoolup and power, but helps burn each molecule of fuel while cruising. Ethanol being so efficient at cooling, aka poor at vapourising, it likes to have a little extra oxygen around to ensure a complete burn. I see decent improvements of around 10% usually from the lambda change. (if your idle stumbles after this, add fuel again in the 1000rpm and 30kpa cell, so you have a stoich idle but a lean cruise. But if the slightly lean idle isnt stumbly, leave it idling slightly lean).
And dont be afraid of using plenty of spark in cruise cells. 35*BTDC isnt uncommon in high vacuum cells for peak economy. I have no idea what your cruising spark map looks like but this is definitely an area that would drink fuel if its not optimised.
I know this will sound rubbish but its the real world for me; My economy on e85 is almost the same as my old petrol tune (5% loss is common), because e85 lets you optimise the tune for economy so safely, this gsr shouldnt be any different. And I hope you get some more economy out of it because its done wonders for me being able to drive on e85 as a daily fuel.
Love the series and keep turning out the content. Hope this helps

Thanks Ben for the advice, will get it looked it. It's only had a few attempts at cold start.
I'll keep you posted on the fuel economy, I know that can definitely improve. I am yet to do a full tank trip in it (many short trips with cold starts and warm ups) so am keen to see how it goes.

    1) Get whatever fits your budget. I think 300whp is good and within reach without upgraded internals. EFR and G25 turbos aren't cheap.
    2) Catch Can should be used to but in truth I had over 400whp and the stock PVC, not much oil at all.

    • @fullboost
      @fullboost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah a bolt on turbo is going to be much cheaper. Otherwise everything needs altering.

    • @beajayparker247

Something diesel guys do, and works just as effectively on spark engines, is running pre-intercooler water injection. It keeps the pipes and cooler clean of oil, and doesnt pool like the oil did.
Mounting the nozzle anywhere between the turbo outlet and the intercooler inlet is ideal for cleaning

It's a stock 4G. You'll need an mls head gasket. Studs. And a bigger turbo. Then prepare to fry your clutch. Once you've done those. You'll make tons of power. But then you start breaking T-Cases, rear diffs and axles.

    Hi,
    I've had couple early evo's a 2 & a 3.
A true full 3" exhust and uprated 02 housing totally transform these, but then will need to port the manifold and turbo entry and wastegate exit because get boost creep.
And uprate airfilter works well,I used igt kit and the rs inlet pipe, from "camskill"
Is loads options to uprate turbo's using stock frame, definitely the easy way to go,i put a ported evo 3 turbo on my 2,because evo3 compressor side is slightly bigger.
Change dump Valve to the later metal one (think are on evo8/9)if haven't all ready because the plastic ones leak.
And is like a purge box (sorry forgot the name) driver side next to intercooler under the wing that block off.
Evo2 has the strongest pistons and can take 14 1,6 bar boost, evo3 higher compression and can't and suffer ring land falure.
As for splitter can use Renault laguna looks good but evo3 bumpers the better looking evo..
Hope I've been off some help ,👍

Its economy is as good as petrol once dialled in, it keeps your engine amazingly clean, its mad for the planet, it's $1.39 per litre permanently in Sydney, it makes strong midrange torque which makes it super pleasant to drive, it prevents heatsoak related powerloss on summer cruises, and it's nice knowing your precious engine is safe from detonation at all times.

i had an FP red equivalent turbo on my evo 7, mine was making 270kw at the wheels on 98. the FP green or similar equivalent turbo with E85 is good for 300kw or close to 300kw with only a little more lag than the stock evo 9 turbo, the red or equivalent is more lag again.

Still confused you call it a gsr despite having all the Evo 2 gear
Is it a factory Evo plate and tagged lancer gsr?
Or a factory GSR with Evo gear all swapped over?

He said in the older videos it was a gsr body with Evo running gear

The Aust Gsr are 1.8 (4g93?)
i thinks this is a 2l conversion 4g63t from an evo1 that was done prior to purchase (he talked about in a prev video? - happy to be wrong)

It's an Aus spec GSR with an RVR engine. The drive-train is still GSR.

Yes thats a 4g63 which is the 2lt. The 1.8lt is the 4g93 so its a GSR with the engine swap done

The car used to have a full 3in exhaust but it was too loud. At this power level it made no difference dropping to a cat back 2.5 👍.

If the engine is built for it, it gives way more power than pump gas. Also depending on your country, it might be cheaper to drive e85. Like in Finland where I live. I drive e85 all year around in my daily too. No milky oil changes and no problems with cold starts when cranking maps are tuned properly.
