As a musician, you might appreciate my theory on this song. I think, musically, it’s a metaphor for drowning. Follow II’s drums and how they grow in the second verse, then roll in the second chorus, then crash throughout the final section. The tension of that last breakdown section grows, too, and I interpret that part as the thrashing and panic of drowning before it rises into that distorted ending that falls off to a single note. From “… we will ever be together” to that note is about a minute and a half, and it takes roughly that long to drown after submerging for the final time. I’m probably wrong, not that any interpretation truly is or isn’t, but it just all comes together in my head to create that picture and feeling.

Perhaps it's less happiness and more the relief of release? They've built the momentum of so many different emotions musically and lyrically through this album, High Water is like a primal scream (literally) relieving the pressure. Maybe not to a positive end, but to a conclusion of decision, at least. A lanced wound still hurts. When two people are drowning and clawing at each other to remain above water one of you has to let go or you'll both drown. This song feels like that decision to let go.

This one is a repeater for me. There's the call backs in the music and words and then the movie in my head with the characters the music has become. Like I've held my breath and then have to breathe out with this one.

  • @MsPatti1606

Wow you nailed that at the end of your reaction. Open minded music appreciation 🎵🎶💙👏👏👏

  • @apollolinaire2607

This song absolutely broke me the first time I listened to it. It's reminding me of so many things about my life, my mom. Probably on my top 3 on the album.

  • @FrankRiver2000

This is my favorite from the album. The "I can't hold myself together" feels like a declaration of hopelessness and the music surrounding feels like a complete emotional breakdown.

  • @darkslayer1391

To call back to a comment i made last time, this song is my warm hug. The ending feels like a release of emotions that you hold in for years until one day you don't.

  • @HeavenSpectrum

I love getting lost in the instrumental parts of this song all the time. The riff, the drums, the bass, all have more or less a part in it standing out for me. And the more Two is having his shenanigans at some point, I love the song even more.

The one song I’d love to see played live and they never have 😟

  • @karlissulcs3822

Man, was I waiting for this. One of my favorites from their earlier songs. Congratulations on the big 1k, my guy. For some reason, I really love the chill part of the song right at the start. The calm snares and guitar just pull you into a different atmosphere and get you ready to listen further. Awesome mask, btw. Thinking of getting an ST rune tattoo, no joke. Damn, I'm drinking the same-coloured drink as you, mate. 😂

    YES ITS HERE!

And this is where I think we see the full synchronization of Vessel and ii’s timing into the intricate patterns we really love digging into. I honestly think ii is one of the most technically sound drummers I’ve ever heard, and one of the only that I’d gladly just listen to drum tracks from.

  • @earthscorcher

My favorite sound they use out of their entire discography is that distorted radar beeping noise that they tonalize. It comes back on Eden at some point (can't recall which rn), but I was so happy when I heard it pop up again.

High Water makes me picture crashing waves during those parts where the notes he sings are climbing and dropping. Musical community is great, especially recently. Just since early this summer, I kind of "woke up" from being on autopilot for more than a decade. Funny enough is it was Last Resort Reimagined that did it. From there, I've been soaking up as much rock/metal music as I can get. Sleep Token was another step in that journey, and I absolutely love watching other ppl discover them. Thank you for another great reaction. ❤

    Yes.

Man, the emotion and angst in Vessel's vocals at the end😢....this is such a good song. I truly do love all of ST's stuff, and this is just one example why. The variations in the instruments and rythyms, yeah...so good. TMBTE is my first exposure to ST so it's my favorite album (can't help it) and I'm really looking forward to your reactions to it, minus the ones you already did 😂. But when i went back and binged everything i couldn't help but love all that I've heard. Truly one of the best bands I've ever heard. They have just a little of all genres and i love it. Makes me feel so much. I listen to other bands but they don't touch me like ST. Falling in Reverse is great, Ronnie is awesome, but they're more for when I'm in a work/house work mode. I listen to Sleep Token making breakfast, dinner, before I go to bed, exercising (⬇️ 35 lbs),in the shower 😂😂😂 ..... Pretty much on repeat. They're just THAT BAND for me. I love them and i haven't felt this way about a band since i was into Bon Jovi 😂. Sleep Token makes me feel young again and i love it.
