Because of you and your wonderful results with hummingbirds birds I decided to put a hummingbird feeder out in May to my surprise I have to hummingbirds that visit. LOL I bought those dollar tree hummingbird feeders, they clean up easy. Today I saw 2 gold finches now to by feed for them. OH! Because of you I have made me 3 water features, birds, butterflies frogs bees love them. I had fun and the enjoyment of sitting on back porch watching them is so refreshing and relaxing. Even a squirrel is using water features love it

We have a new young hummingbird hanging around our house and feeders - this lil one has been exploring all the things in the yard, then coming up for a drink from the feeders, then looking around again. At one point he was trying to see if he could feed off of our songbird bird feeders! This little one is also very curious about us - he flew up into my husband and my faces and just looked at us for a few before heading back to the feeders. :)

Ha!!! I have ridiculous RACCOONS!!! Oh my word, I went through 14 hummingbird feeders last summer!!! It's insanity! It's not normally the older ones, but my goodness those silly, unbelievable adolescent raccoons are a handful!!! I seriously went nuts last summer!
Finally, I was just broke, and luckily by the end of July Menards has the single feeders for $.99!!! And the hummingbirds loved them, I loved them since they were super simple!
Dollar General just got them in stock, for $1.50, lol, I bought all 8 they had out! Ha!! It's also much easier for me to keep them filled by keeping the food in a bigger water bottle. I'm glad I can separate them all over, mine get very territorial, even though between my mother and I we always have multiple feeders full.
We also plant any flowers we hear they are attracted to. ;) Trumpet Vine is like icecream for them, as it would be for me! ;)

Thank you so much for your advice about attracting hummingbirds. I’ve been successful bringing them into my yard at our up north property. I have a question ---- have you ever had the young birds play tag/keep away? It’s like the ‘teenagers’ are constantly chasing each other in and out of the trees. I’ve watched then sit and look out for the others. Two three sometimes four will ‘dog fight’. It’s amazing!!!!!

@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy That is a super idea! I also found it this notable bird food store... 😉 An additive that you can put in the hummingbird mixture and it will help the nectar stay good up to 2 weeks! I just recently tried it out - I only have one feeder - And it did keep the hummingbird nectar fresh for up to the two weeks that it claimed! It says on the bottle that it is a natural mineral or vitamin that they eat in flowers that just happens to preserve the nectar longer. So it's not a chemical additive. And I live in Florida where it's hot, and sunny and the nectar seems to spoil within days. I have a little bully hummingbird who chases everybody out of the yard! I know I just have the one feeder I should put more up but truly I can only deal with the one feeder and one bird right now! Lol! But now that I've gotten used to his ways he's like a pet. I'm really going to miss him when he migrates. I sure hope he does okay and comes back next year. I call him Teeny Meanie, The Terror of the Backyard!

Hello Robbie, I love watching all your videos. You are a very kind & thoughtful lady to the birdies & the environment. And that means a lot. I’m having a couple problems. First is the trouble with squirrels I had a great feeder that when the squirrel got on it they would spin around ( which was so funny to watch) & fling them off, but a bear ruined it & now it’s broken. That feeder was very expensive for me anyway. But the squirrels are always eating the seed & suet. I don’t know how to stop them.
Second is I had 3 hummingbirds that came around about a month ago. So 2 weeks ago I got my first feeder that I could dig out. But one only came by one time. And none ever came back that I’ve seen. The funny thing was I have a large hummingbird on a spring that hangs off my deck & the wings flap. The one day I was sitting on my deck & the hummingbird went to it & it almost looked like she was giving my bird a kiss . It was so funny but cute. Anyway I haven’t seen a hummingbird since & don’t know what to make them show up? I have bird bathed all around & even a solar one that is a few years old but it won’t work anymore. I’ve kept it clean & take it in every winter cause in PA we have very cold winters. The last problem I have is I see & hear the birds but they aren’t coming to my feeders & I even have 2 finch feeders hanging also. Can you please help me Robbie? I trust your info. Sorry to tell you all my issues & that this comment is way long. Have a beautiful day & I hope you will get back to me. Hugs

A hint for everyone: instead of a brush you fill the feeder with water (half) and take some household paper add that. Close the feeder and shake it. That way the cleaning is much easier and faster. The same if you have a Thermos with glass in it, works every time fantastic and cleans it effortless, no brush needed. With the water in the bottle the household paper comes out with the water, no problem. Clean is the feeder, or thermos coffee pot.

Thank you for sharing your wealth of information! I love all your ideas and your diy projects. Unlike you, though, I live in an area where we sometimes get heavy rains, which causes the nectar to get too diluted. I haven't always been able to keep up with freshening it on time before the next rain and the hummers are very slow to return if they find their nectar diluted. Do you have any ideas?

Thank you so much for all your detailed videos. My hummingbirds were pretty scarce yesterday - I think the Sahara dust might have been bothersome for them?

I’m sure you have been asked this many times, but… how much nectar do make at one time and do you have a routine for cleaning and refilling. I have 2, 1 quart feeders and have to fill them every day. Planning on many more for the spring.
I recently made a solar fountain bird bath. 1 Dollar Tree charger, 1 plastic mixing bowl (perfect fit) and 1 fruit cup (4 for $1.25). Had a little solar pump. Put it together as you instructed. No hummingbirds in that yes but had a couple other visitors. ❤
    Thanks for all the information!

Thank you! I do have 1 Hummingbird Feeder and I see maybe 3 at a time and they seem to fight over feeder-What is going on? I do have tiny single feeder caps -not sure what to do with them Velcro? I am trying to make your Ice Cream Feeder and saw the Ice cream Sundae Water Fountain-How amazing!

Hummingbirds are usually really territorial until you have a ton and they’re forced to get along.. same with my hummers! Even though I have two feeders they’ll give each other the stank eye from each feeder 😂 but it is pretty normal for them to fight because they are innately territorial

MA’AM First of all, last year I found those feeders at the Dollar Store & was so excited to showcase them. Well after the couple of days, I realized they didn’t have the perch like my other ones so I PAINFULLY made them with coat hangers that I cut myself. You mean to tell me I could’ve just used PIPE CLEANERS, WHERE WERE YOU DURING MY PAIN?!? 😂 Anyways, you have THEE BEST FRUGAL tips of anyone for anything I’ve seen hands down!!! Btw, I just ordered 4 solar pumps & can’t wait to make my baths in the Spring…actually I just realize I can make one now with my heated birdbath (heated dog bowl with a shallow Dollar store dish instead)…since I’m in New England. Btw, I thought we weren’t suppose to use any other sugar besides granulated? Does it matter what region you’re from, maybe your Hummbies can tolerate Cane & Beet sugar?

Hi Robbie! I’m in Los Angeles so probably not far from you - is it still mating/nesting season here? I thought it ended in May/early June. Can you do a video showing how you protect the plastic hook on the feeder cap from cracking from the sun that is used to hang on a Shepard’s hook? And can carefully I paint the yellow flowers w red polish remover to deter bees ?

Thank you for this video. I didn't know that hummingbirds like fruit flies. I feed the wild lizards wingless fruit flys. I'm going to use one of your homemade hummingbird feeder ideas and fill it with wingless fruit flies for the hummingbirds.

I used to run a bait shop for fisherman like worms, minnows, and crickets. For crickets, we used 4 small cups of oil and put them under the legs where ants can't get into the crickets. I do same thing under horse feed barrels, too. Ants drown in any kind of oil.

I buy hummingbird feeders with a built in most on top. That eliminates the ant problem. (I keep a bottle of water near each feeder ... I have four).

Omg, just stumbled on some of your hummingbird videos, you are the best when it comes to hummingbirds, learning quite a lot from you, im from Canada, don have that many here, but certainly love the ones i have, Will definetely try out a bird bath , might not work this year, but will put it back next spring , i can’t even get 2 hummingbirds in the same feeder, they are always fighting.
Well keep up the good work, and i will continu watching your videos, thank you so very much

For toothbrushes- why buy new? U change your tooth brushes several times a year. Use those for cleaning and the house. And for the mascara brush, if you have a make-up store near yiu- i.e. Macy's, Sephora, ulta etc they use one use mascara brushes. There you go, for free. Recycle, reuse, reduce! Love u Robby!

Love your channel and all your videos. Have you deal with a territorial hummingbird? Well, until 2 weeks ago I enjoyed the show in my balcony, looking to different hummingbirds drinking the nectar from the feeders. Now, it's different as soon as a hummingbird get close to the feeder, that hummingbird chase the other one. I have 2 feeders😁😁😁.
    Any ideas to fix that?
I don't have the heart to remove the feeders from my balcony.

I am watching this at 6 am and I can't tell if I am hearing your roosters or mine. But then I heard the wild horses and an owl, so I figured okay I'm hearing more of my place. I did have to rewind and pause like 6 times though. Just to make sure.

As far as nesting material goes, my mom always put out the lint from our clothes dryer for birds to use. Not sure if hummers would like it, but if not, at least it's material other birds might find handy.
