NOBODY COULD PRODUCE A BETTER VIDEO ON HEADLIGHT BULB REPAIR THAN BOTH OF YOU!!! After watching your other videos and seeing how thorough you explain complicated things I wanted to see this video knowing I likely will do such a repair in the future. The camera focusing is perfect, as is the lighting in otherwise dark areas under the hood. "The Devil is in the details." - You both spend the time showing how parts fit and need to correctly be taken apart and reassembled! As always, THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
WOW!!!! thank you so much! That is such a wonderful compliment!! Funny, we have gone back to watch our own video to change the headlight several months later....lol
Thank you so much for this video!! My passenger side headlight went out and I replaced the bulb myself?!!!! All I did was go step by step, following the video. It took me an hour because I put the bulb in wrong and I couldn't get the clamp to lock. Once I watch that part of the video a few times my light when on, figuratively, and I took the bulb out and put it in the right way. You saved me over $100 and gave my self gratification that I can do anything. Keep the projects coming! Love your videos.
This is far and away the best explanation I have seen of how to change the lightbulbs on a ProMaster. I changed the bulbs, both sides highbeam and low beam, on our Winnebago Travato which is on a ProMaster 3500 chassis. These were the original equipment LLH7 bulbs and lasted over 5 years. These bulbs failed within a few days of each other. I would add to the procedure that it if it is difficult to screw in the round moisture barrier/covers, spraying a little Teflon dry lube onto a paper towel and wiping the blue gasket around the base of the round cover and then around the receptacle in to which it fits will make these covers go in much easier. I recommend against spraying the Teflon lubricant directly onto the round moisture barrier/covers or onto the receptacle area of the light fixture housing. When removing the lower panel, even being as careful as I could, i ended up breaking off one of the plastic tabls that help to secure this panel. I may glue the tab back onto this lower panel, however, with the tab missing, it sure is easier to remove this panel that with the tab still present. Since I installed Silvania Silverstar Ultra H7 bulbs, which have an estimated service life of 85 hours (that would be 1-2 years of night-time driving for me) I may need to change the bulbs again. I used to leave my low beam headlights on during gthe daytime, however, I will not longer do that gioven the projected service life of the Silverstar Ultra bulbs.
Thank you so much for this excellent video! I just replaced my headlight bulb and your easy to follow directions were perfect. This is the first time I've fixed anything on my van by myself.
We are happy to help. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. We are starting to build a library on how-to videos for the Ram Promaster. Take care and have a fantastic day.
@@oneadVANtureatatime I had seen another video (not yours), but was obvious camera was on a headband, too much head movement and away from the subject at hand. Not hating, just saying.
I have this same van. This is a pain in the ass. They would rather a visit to the dealer to change the light bulb. This video was a super help. Thumbs up!
We noticed if we manually switch the lights off before shutting down the engine we don't get anymore burned out lights! Take care and thank you for watching. 😎
hundreds of van lifers driving a ProMaster out there, you could carve a niche and help them with ProMaster questions, good luck. BTW, I have the same van, Thanks for the video.
Good video, thank you. I did, however, have trouble getting the bulbs to seat properly, ie, under the little tab. I found it much easier to place the unattached bulb into the assembly by itself and then attach power cord.
Just a few things to add after replacing both my headlight bulbs. Rather than plugging the bulb into the socket and then putting the bulb down into the bulb hole, its easier to seat the replacement bulb down in the bulb hole and then push the wiring plug down on the bulb after the bulb is already seated in place. This allows you to get the metal tab on the replacement bulb to go under the metal tab on the housing next to the hole for the bulb. Otherwise, you will be struggling to get the bulb's metal tab under the metal tab on the bulb housing. If you don't get your replacement bulbs seated just right, it will cause your headlights to diffuse in a wide pattern and look overly bright.
OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS TIP!!! After struggling with that bulb contraption thingy and cursing up a storm I came back and saw your comment - life saver! So easy putting the bulb in the hole, then pushing the plastic doodad over it all - was done in 5 seconds! Thank you!🏆
I never would have thought of doing it this way. I have had major struggles with the damn plastic clip. On one side, I resorted to using electrical tape to keep it from coming out - couldn't get the tab to hold it. Such a bad design! I'm thrilled to have another method to try, now that the bulb has burned out on the other side.
Thank you for this very quick and easy to follow instruction. I successfully changed both low beams by myself in about 70 minutes. I didn’t have the correct sockets at first but halfway thru someone gave me their metric socket set. After that it was easy. I think I saved myself $100+.
Thank you very much for the information. I like how you went slow and put things back and took them off again. That helped a Lot so I did not have to go back and re watch over and over. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more videos.
Great video! If anyone doesn't have all these tools it takes a little patiences but you can stick you hand back in there and pull them right out and replace them! Have a 2016!
I am so thankful for this. I have never had someone teach me about cars. I know how to build or fix just about anything in a house or construction site but never got taught cars. Something I def will be learning before hitting the road.
+Sunshine Ak You are very welcome. We hope to do a video on adjusting the headlight beams also. When we built out our van it slightly raised the front end up and now we bright oncoming traffic. We are guessing this is a common problem and super easy to fix😀
Great how-to video. I haven't had to do this yet, but now I can. This could have bee intimidating, but you explained, step by step, noting where all of the tabs are. Thank you!
+David Yule thank you! We’ve changed our light bulb 3 times now.... Dave is getting really fast at it! He even went back to watch his own video for a refresher😂 thanks for commenting and your support!
Woohoo I did it thanks! Had to replace the bulbs on the license plate and oddly had a terrible time with that!! Now have loose bulb floating around inside the frame, but I'll never hear it over the squeaking back-end anyways!
+RobJuni Yes I heard that also. I stayed with the same bulb it came with to be safe. We are happy you liked the video and appreciate your comment. Thank you! 😎
Darn the clip that holds the bulb in place is BROKEN on both sides! Ah! May need to buy new headlight assemblies. We only know this because we watched your video as we went thru the low beam bulb replacement process.
Shared your video with the group over on the Facebook Group "Travato Base Camp". Hopefully it'll get you a few more subscribers. Agree with Ron below, best video out there on the subject!
+HighlanderTCBO1 We really appreciate you sharing our videos!! We have been boondocking at a remote lake with no connection the last 5 days and just got back on here to comment. We have got about 15 new subs in those few days so I think that's thanks to you!!! Thank you very much.!!😀😀😀
At the last of it, you do place the bulb in the harness first, square tab on the bulb away from the clip; the grooves on the harness do line up with the keys on the stabilizer posts on either side; but you have to tip the bulb down a bit to get its flange under the retaining clip held by the hex head that you do not touch. Once bulb flange is under that clip, get the grooves on those keys. It looks so easy and it is; but can send a few minutes of frustration as with your hand in the hole, tough to see what is going on.
Just saw another video on maybe why the bulbs die so early. There are weep holes need the windshield wiper bolts. When clogged they drip water on the bulb housing. I looked a mine and they both were clogged and spilling over. Easy to unclog with thin screwdriver. Would love to find a preventative measure though.
Thank you for the tip! We just checked our drain holes and they are clear. Now I lost the dust cover to replace the bulb and have even more water getting in 😂 I will replace it soon I hope.
Thanks ! I just purchased a new 2019 2500 Promaster 159" hightop and I've heard about the headlight issues . This is good to know. Maybe they fixed the issue on the newer ones ???
Second light bulb I looked you up a second time! Everyone says just do both while you're at it....... The old bulb lasted just long enough to forget how
Thank you so much for this excellent instructional video. We are still getting to know our 2019 Winnebago Travato KL. You had a little difficulty unplugging the purple electric power source plug. Would a tiny smear of dielectric grease help there?
Yes, I am sure that would help. 😀 We found out that if we manually turn off the headlights before shutting the engine off we get no more burnt-out headlight. Thank you for watching and sharing a tip.Happy travels and hope to see you on the road.
Great instructional video. I missed why you were changing the bulb. The reason I mention is that someone flashed their lights at me last evening. I'm thinking my driver side bulb is either too bright and/or shining directly into the drivercs vision in opposing traffic. Have you experienced this and do you know if there is a way to change the angle of the light piece where it doesn't shine in the driver's vision going opposing traffic direction?
+stickybee2 We have the same trouble with getting flashed The extra weight we added during the build raised our front up enough to bright oncoming traffic. We are going to do a video on how to adjust the low beams soon. If you don’t wish to wait then look for a loop on the top back side of you headlight on the top. A driver with an Allen head will drop down in that loop and reach the adjustment screw. It’s plastic so be gentle. At 25 feet on level ground your light should be no higher then 26 inches. Or right below the driver side window on an average car at 25 feet. Hope this helps any more questions all be happy to try and answer.
@@oneadVANtureatatime Thxs, I'm a visual person. So I'll wait for your video. Also, my rig now has a lift raising it 3.5 inches. So the amount of light adjustment I'm sure would differ from no more than 26" adjustment ?
pretty sure you will still need to be under 26 inches or you will be blinding oncoming traffic. All do more research before we do the video to make sure 😀 3.5 inch lift!!! So very cool. Are you able to run bigger tires with that lift? Sound like an awesome van.
@@oneadVANtureatatime No worries on the research. I'll figure it out. Also, I do have bigger tires in respect to having more tread / wider tire rolling on the road. Just recently got the lift & tires. So still feeling it out. Was a bit squirrely on the handling when installed. When I got the 400 mile inspection, the folks that installed the kit re-torque everything & tighten tires, checked air pressure. Seems to be driving fine now with less float also. I also ordered a sway bar. It should improve handling tremendously. So it's work in progress.
No, but I feel like we need to upgrade the headlamps. They do a poor job, making me not want to drive at night. Let us know if you find a good product. 😀
I also have a 2017 Promaster - Thank you! Could they make changing a light bulb any more difficult?? Thanks for making it easier - Now if they wouldn't burn out so quickly!!! LOL
You are very welcome! I've recently learned if I turn off the lights before turning off the engine I don't get so many burned out lights. Take care and stay safe. 😀
A quick question, do you unplug the battery when you're working on the headlights? The shop manual is adamant that the battery be unplugged. I'd love to not do that, because recovering all our settings is a pain. Thanks!
I have never disconnected the battery to change the headlight. You have to unplug and remove it to replace the bulb so I consider that pretty safe. Of course, on the record I must say to follow the manual 😂
Great video, but I don't think this is the way the engineers envisioned the procedure. You don't have to remove all of those body parts and the whole headlight assembly. It's not easy, but you can reach around behind the assembly and remove that round cover (on the rear of the assembly). You can then reach in and remove the bulb & socket. Replace the bulb in the socket, then push the bulb back into place. You can't really see what you're doing, rather it's all by feel so it helps to know how the socket releases and locks back into place (as you show in the video). If you do remove the whole assembly, beware that the headlight may no longer be aimed correctly and you'll need to use the up/down & right left adjustment screws to re-align it.
Excellent video! Would love to use this as an example to others at my office on how to change a bulb properly. How would I get permission to use segments of this as part of our Promaster uptraining? Thanks!
+Tom Santay Hi Tom! 1st.... Thank you for watching our videos! 2nd... What an amazing compliment! If you could email us at Carrie.epley@yahoo.com with a bit more info: What segments you are interested in? How long will it be used for training? What kind of professionals will be watching this video? Etc. Looking forward to your reply, Dave & Carrie
You are really good at these instructional videos, makes me feel like I could do this and save a few bucks. I have a question that is off topic, I keep thinking back to your other video where you guys had the bags of ice and the windows open when it was hot. Do you think insulating makes that big of a difference? If you had it to do over again, would you? Most of the videos I have watched, everyone is insulating and say you have to. But, I've watched a couple where both people said they wouldn't bother if they had it to do over because it doesn't make that big of a difference and once you open the door you are basically at same temp as whatever outside is. Just curious as to what your thoughts may be on the subject. Thanks!
+Sweetheart Mastiffs Great question!! I think if you do not insulate you are making a huge mistake. First off in cooler weather condensation will build on any exposed metal ceiling or walls..and not a little amount but lots! This leads to mold, mildew, and water damage if it gets to your sub flooring. Not insulating in warmer weather will make exposed metal in the ceiling and walls so hot you will burn yourself on contact...which I have done before 🤪 Also if you were to leave your van in full sun (not insulated) while you shop for 30 minutes on a 70-degree day it will be approximately 104 degrees inside. Our van on a 70 degree day with an exhaust fan running will be right around 70 degrees. One last note. Insulation will help with noise reduction and may provide a better nights rest. I hope this feedback helps and thanks again for this great question 😀
+Bonnie Borgeson any auto part store can look this up for you. Be warned they will probably try to sell you the most expensive bulb. They tried to sell us one bulb for $25 dollars. I will see if Dave can find you any part numbers.
We have a friend that claims he stuck his hand around and replaced his but it fell out latter because the bulb was not latched in properly. The latch that holds the bulb in is tricky even when removing the whole light. I am replacing mine tomorrow again 😂 After four years and 10 or so replacements it gets pretty easy and takes me about 7 minutes now.
Best video on changing low beam bulb. The diagram showing the correct alignment of the new bulb into socket is very helpful! Job well done!

Thanks, Got a new 2018 3500, Looking for all the help I can get.
+BROOKELE Very welcome and happy to help😎
Bonjour, super vidéo.
👍
Avez-vous une référence pour les optiques ?
Thank you! Sorry, my French is terrible.
do you have a reference for lamp optics?
No, but I feel like we need to upgrade the headlamps. They do a poor job, making me not want to drive at night. Let us know if you find a good product. 😀
thank you so much!!!
Thank you … Thank you … Thank you!!!
Happy to help! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you thank you thank you.
Very welcome😃
Hi--Do you have to remove the whole light just to change the bulbs? Or does it just make it easier? Ty
Danke vielmals...
Thank you
+David Sager Thank you for commenting. You are very welcome 😀
I have a promaster 1500 2018 and I live in it iam in Florida
+David Sager Nice! What's your strategy for surviving the summer heat? We would like to head down there at some time.
I hang around the water and go to Walmart hang out at McDonald’s iam working on getting a 5000 btu air conditioning with a tailgate gen.
Thank you so much 😭 !!!!
You are very welcome, happy to help 😀
Excellent video! Would love to use this as an example to others at my office on how to change a bulb properly. How would I get permission to use segments of this as part of our Promaster uptraining? Thanks!
+Tom Santay Hi Tom!
1st.... Thank you for watching our videos! 2nd... What an amazing compliment!
If you could email us at Carrie.epley@yahoo.com with a bit more info: What segments you are interested in? How long will it be used for training? What kind of professionals will be watching this video? Etc.
Looking forward to your reply,
Dave & Carrie
Not insulating in warmer weather will make exposed metal in the ceiling and walls so hot you will burn yourself on contact...which I have done before 🤪
Also if you were to leave your van in full sun (not insulated) while you shop for 30 minutes on a 70-degree day it will be approximately 104 degrees inside. Our van on a 70 degree day with an exhaust fan running will be right around 70 degrees.
One last note. Insulation will help with noise reduction and may provide a better nights rest.
I hope this feedback helps and thanks again for this great question 😀
@@oneadVANtureatatime Ok, I want none of that! I was hoping to get around it, but I guess not. Thanks so much for your insight. Appreciate it. :)
Where i can buy those headlights? I have boxer 330 2011
Whoever designed that must've been hit by a falling headlight as a child and vowed to make the world's most securely bolted-in headlight in revenge...
Too funny! I have now changed the headlight so many times..it only takes 7 minutes sad to say. 😜
Ciao,ma che fari monta? Perché per il mio ducato non li trovo così..grazie
can you give the number for the low and high beam lights? Thanks you
+Bonnie Borgeson any auto part store can look this up for you. Be warned they will probably try to sell you the most expensive bulb. They tried to sell us one bulb for $25 dollars. I will see if Dave can find you any part numbers.
Thanks for the video but you can replace the bulb without removing all that
We have a friend that claims he stuck his hand around and replaced his but it fell out latter because the bulb was not latched in properly. The latch that holds the bulb in is tricky even when removing the whole light. I am replacing mine tomorrow again 😂 After four years and 10 or so replacements it gets pretty easy and takes me about 7 minutes now.
