Wow, yeah. These guys were really bad-boy punks in the 60s, but hilariously (in hindsight) I can tell you that as early as 1978, people were already saying stuff like “Jeez, the Stones are still touring? Aren’t they getting a little old for that??” 😃😃😃in 1978! But at the same time, this album “Some Girls” was very very well received when it came out in 1978. Bangers!
I was really wrong-headed about aging rockers’ careers myself. I used to think they all would just step aside when they got a bit old, since rock was all about celebration of youth. Boy was I way off !!
You can hear the feeling of longing in Jagger's voice: "I've been holding out so long, I've been sleeping all alone, Lord, I miss you." It's a great song, bass line, singing, and fun. Loved your commentary about the song. Always watch to the very end of your videos.
This was a tricky time for The Stones, and a lot of other pure Rock and Roll bands. Disco and Punk were both hitting their stride, and folks were wondering if Rock was still relevant. Turns out it was, thankfully. The "Some Girls" album was a well received and well played, both by The Stones, and the radio DJ's, remember them? I still have my vinyl copy, with ALL the pictures of Farrah Fawcett Majors and everyone else. Good days, daze.
Remember going to visit some family friends. Us kids were in the basement, a bunch of 10 year old kids. It was a walk out basement and a girl about my age was looking me over. It was raining but we ran outside through the sliding glass door to kiss. Her hair was soaking wet and she had the most beautiful smile. This song was blasting on the radio. Never saw here again.
Great song. The Stones' nod to the disco music that was all over the charts at the time, but with The Stones' bit of snarl and grit. That same album, Some Girls, also had a great caricature of country and western music called Far Away Eyes, that might make you smile.
The Stones played a lot of styles of music that I don't listen to...disco and country immediately come to mind...yet I enjoy it when it's them playing it. I don't like disco, but I like "Miss You". I don't like country, but I like "Dead Flowers". That really makes no sense but that's what I feel.
Funny thing is that nobody I knew tried to put music into a certain box. If we liked a song it really didn't matter whether it was disco or rock or even country-ish. We might have Steppenwolf, The Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, The Bee Gees, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Juice Newton all on a play list.
I don’t remember the Stones being Disco, did you, @hackermusic3355?? They were not introduced as Disco, but I agree with you, I didn’t label any songs, just music.👍
That's how I listen to this music on the channel 😁 if I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't. But I'm willing to hear it all! I've just learned through the comment section that certain people hate anything pop, disco, or bubble gum. So, it made me question how this hit some of those people who really can stand anything disco, yet loved the stones 😅
Funny, I’m a huge Stones fan (my favorite band since I was 9 years old in 1972!), and when this song came out my reaction was “NOOOOO - the Stones went disco!!!!” Coming off their late 60’s through mid 70’s run of all time great albums (best ever in the history of rock IMO), I couldn’t believe my ears and was absolutely let down by it. But, with the passing of time I have come to appreciate the whole Some Girls album a lot more. That said, to me Beggars Banquet all the way to Goats Head Soup are ent far the best Stones output by a very wide margin.
Great song by The Stones. Another excellent musical artist is Michel Pagliaro (he’s Canadian so you have probably never heard of him). If you would like to react to someone from the late 60’s and early 70’s you might want to give him a try. Some of his songs I remember are - What the Hell I Got, Loving You Ain’t Easy, and Some Sing Some Dance.
The whole album is golden. If Miss You winds up on your playlist you don't want to miss the longer disco cuts. I think one is 7 minutes and the other 10 or 11.
When this song first came out disco was very popular. And I thought that this was the Stone attempt at coming out with something that sounded disco. I love this song I really like the stones I saw them in concerned about the timeness album came out.. It was called tattoo u for the album
This was prettyy much the Stones' first disco song and I didn;t care muich for it until I saw them perform it at the Concert for New York following the terrorist attack on 9/11 for firrst responders and the loved ones they lost and now I tear up every time I hear it.
Great reaction as always! The 12 inch version rules! Also you should check out the Stones 12 inch version of “Undercover of the Night”. I think you’ll love it.
There's no problem at all being a disco song. The best Disco, Country, Jazz y, Rock, Folk, Blues, Pop song ever created was from the Rolling Stones. I said.
Shawn I have really bee enjoying all of your latest music choice’s, it takes me back to my teenage years, don’t slow down with the direction your adviser’s are suggesting to you they're doing excellent.
Yes, Shawn, the Stones did receive some flack for "selling out" and venturing into disco. But others felt that the band was experimenting and staying relevent/current, while still infusing the music with their signature sound. In retrospect, I think we can all agree that it IS one fine dance record, with an uber-copied, wicked bass line.
Hi, Shawn. I was looking forward to your reaction to the Rolling Stones' "Miss You", and disappointed that you reacted to the single version. I suggest that you first do a quick Wiki lookup on ALL of the songs you choose to react to. If you see the song was released as a single, type in "album version" after the song title when you search for the song. That should ensure that you've got the full length version. The album version is nearly 5 minutes, with more lyrics and a good sax solo. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/WXF0xJsFAiI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4Np9EfMWrmNlgjU7 There's also the extended version you mentioned, a full 8 and a half minutes, with lots more guitar jamming from Keith Richards and Ron Wood. This song fills the extended time quite well. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/V5qclOgieEk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G2hpO_kbtz0FDJCy I remember "Miss You" was a huge number one hit for the Stones in the summer of 1978. As a kid, I saw them for the first time that July in Chicago, when they rocked over 100 thousand fans. "Miss You" isn't really a disco song; Charlie Watts' 4/4 drumming is the one similar trait, but the guitars are pure rock and roll. This was one of the Stones' ventures into dance music. It wasn't merely an imitation, however - just as they'd done with rhythm and blues, country, soul, pop, reggae and gospel, the Stones assimilated this type of music into their identity. The Stones were an extremely versatile band. As you mentioned, Bill Wyman's bass playing is fantastic in this song. He retired in 1993, after thirty years in the band. They were better when he was a member.
This was a cross-over song for the Stones to disco. Th version we used to dance to was over 7 minutes long. This is the link to that version in case you feel like boogiing down, Shawn! I have the long version (12") on pink vinyl! th-cam.com/video/XK0YZYum9f0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-CY1Pd5zGO1k5RNr
Sounds like right version to me. Don’t do the 12”. Just an extended dance version. ‘Some Girls’ is a cool album. There were variations on the album cover colors.

This one and "Shattered" both have that quirky sound and both are among my favorite Rolling Stones' classics.
Bill Wyman kills it on bass in this song.
The unsung hero from the original 5 (yes, I include Ian)
🎉🎉🎉 Miss You is one of my all-time favorite song from the Rolling Stones. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Yeah, the one you listened to was most likely the single version. The album cut had a sax solo and a harmonica outro.
that harmonica outro is killer
This was absolute proof that The Rolling Stones were able to do disco, and do it well.
I think a big part of why they’ve been able to persist so long is their ability to not just adapt, but to still make it their own.
The Stones were one of those bands that could make even disco sound good
This is one of the stones coolest songs and probably one of the coolest songs of all time
The Stones played a lot of styles of music that I don't listen to...disco and country immediately come to mind...yet I enjoy it when it's them playing it. I don't like disco, but I like "Miss You". I don't like country, but I like "Dead Flowers". That really makes no sense but that's what I feel.

@@kathyrizzi8754 I never thought of the Stones as disco except for elements of it in this song.
That's how I listen to this music on the channel 😁 if I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't. But I'm willing to hear it all! You should do Emotional Rescue next from 1980. He sings falsetto for the first half of the song.
Some Girls is a great album. My best friend and I were big Stones fans and we played the shit out of Some Girls.
Rolling Stones do disco. From Some Girls, in my opinion the last great Stones album.
I agree.
Black and Blue and Tattoo You albums by the Stones= DANCE !!! Rock on dude!!!
Sean, chair dancing is mandatory for any RS song! Even when they all reluctantly recorded their only disco song (thank the Dear Lord)
This song was made for the Walkman to put some pep in your step
Yep. It worked for me!! Loved my little Sony walk maaan
I still have my Sony yellow Walkman 😂💛🩷

The special disco version is the best version by far.
I remember The Rolling Stones on the Ed Sullivan show in the 60’s, boy did they look stoned…LoL!😂😂💜
One of their best in my opinion. I enjoyed this era of Rolling Stones, check out "She's So Cold" 🥶
The whole album is golden. If Miss You winds up on your playlist you don't want to miss the longer disco cuts. I think one is 7 minutes and the other 10 or 11.
I wish you’d landed in the version with the sax solo! So good

Song of the summer of 78.
The 12 in. Version is great, it the same as the single but with extra guitar parts at the end or the album version with saxophone at the end.
There is a club mix at over 8:00. The original uncut recording was over 15:00. Never released.
The Jagg bringing the Swag!
😎
I forgot about this song … LOVE IT
Fantastic track

Not one of the most famous Stones singles but IMO one of the best!
There's no problem at all being a disco song. The best Disco, Country, Jazz y, Rock, Folk, Blues, Pop song ever created was from the Rolling Stones. I said.
Mick uses guide lyrics on tunes before writing the actual lyrics - sometimes the guide lyrics become the lyrics.
Shawn I have really bee enjoying all of your latest music choice’s, it takes me back to my teenage years, don’t slow down with the direction your adviser’s are suggesting to you they're doing excellent.
Hey Shawn! It's been a long time since I heard that short edited version. It threw me off. There's some good stuff that I "Miss..." 🙂
Nice one Shawn! I think thats an abbreviated version. Gives you the vibes but not the full production. Keep them Mick and the boys comin'!!

Hot Stuff is a really good one to react to cause it's totally different.
My absolute favorite Stones track. Second place goes to Angie.
♥

This is a short version! You should have at least played the album version, and there is even a longer one.
I been meaning to ask....whassup with Richard Simmons doll dude? Lol....creepy af!
Lol! I can move it 😅 it's a gift from my brother. When I was a toddler I had red curly hair. He said I reminded him of Richard Simmons 🤣
I'm only funnin
Even the Stones and Kiss were affected by that terrible monster, disco.
Bass killer on this track🤘🤘🤘🤘🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
The Stones disco song...ugh!
