10 years eh. Frontrunner for album that didn't quite hit me right at the time but never stopped growing on me. Gets me so pumped these days. Thanks for this masterpiece.
Very glad they went with clean vocals! I love me some harsh vocals and growls, and wouldn't mind some here and there in their tunes, but this is perfect.
Oh my gosh I'm actually in love with this song. When it gets soft and the lead comes in and then he sings "say goodbye" I get so happy. I love music, guys. Nothing else can really make me this genuinely happy. I just started listening to this band, and they have shown me that people still care about music the way that I do. I'm loving some of these bands, especially when they show this much care and thought about the way they write their songs. You can tell these guys gave it their all, and that's just awesome.
Wow, when I heard this song this morning I didn't think there'd be so much whining about the vocals, as they're incredible. In my own opinion, Intervals has really come into their own because of them, based off this song. Can't wait for the full album.
I guess its more of the shock value than anything, here we are all expecting to hear what we normally do, insane intrumental riffage and all that. But instead we hear vocals which is like WTF!. It'll take me time to get used to the fact that the band i loved now includes vocals, which is what i loved so much about them, they didnt have vocals.. Aaron Marshall is a very smart guy, and he knows what hes doing so i trust him. Its just like wow, shock value for sure.
Absolutely amazing song. What people don't seem to grasp is the vocals add a whole new element to Intervals. They were a fantastic instrumental band and now they are an amazing band with a great vocalist. How can you whine?

If he's the same guy that sings in their new songs then you'd love him in those. 'Atlas Hour', 'Siren Sound', and 'The Self Surrendered' are sensational. He sings with the melody unlike any singer I've ever listened to.
I too love their instrumental stuff, but honestly this is a nice change of pace. Its good to see this style music being sung without pure screams all the way through. Screaming is overdone. If you do it throughout the whole song it loses its effect, but if you only do it at very emotional parts of the song it works as an effect to intensify the emotional impact at that part. I like the vocals tho, and I hope this CD is massively successful.
If you like these kind of instrumentals with mostly singing and those odd screams for emphasis... then you absolutely must check out Circles. I'd recommend the songs, Radiant, Another Me, or Erased as good introduction songs to the band. All of their material is amazing, but those ones really hooked me in to the band.

Why did you listen to the haters? Why didn't you continue doing music with vocals? You were an amazing instrumental band but I digged A Voice Within the most, it's why I fell in love with the band.
Aaron personally stated he only wanted to do instrumental stuff, Anup and Lukas wanted a vocalist, which is why they were no longer with the band in the end. It sucks but shit happens I suppose, Aaron just wanted to do his own thing...
My first few listens through Ephemeral and The Escape I felt like the singing needed more life, but now its really growing on me. I can see this album being revolutionary to the genre.
I so much love this band and these lyrics plus Mike's delivery is so god damn raw and honest - usually I have a screaming fetish but this is just outstanding!
I think the worst cancer of this type of music are vocals haters, even if vocals are undeniably amazing. They think themselves so much into technicism and they reject any (or most) kind of vocals, claiming that they "ruin" the instrumental part. That only shows how little is their capacity of appreciation towards another musical expression.
Kind of a harsh comment you have there. It really isn't any kind of cancer or any other dramatic disease you might think up to voice such a provoking comment. I don't really have a problem with the vocals, but they do indeed take away from the music. I mean, once you start writing a song with vocals in mind, there are only so many things you can come up with on a guitar which will fit properly underneath. If you keep the technicality and all sorts of complicated patterns all the way through and put a layer of vocals above it, you will get an oversaturated mess, which will upset both "vocal haters" and pro vocal people. Such an example would be the first periphery album, which was fresh and interesting on it's own, and a bit eerie with the vocals, they just didn't quite fit perfectly everywhere ( and no, I'm not saying that the album is a mess, I just personally can't enjoy it the same) . What's going on in this song and as well as with the second periphery album is that the songs still have progressive traits such as the intro riff in this song, but overall they have to simplify select parts, mostly where the chorus will go, thus steering away from what I personally enjoyed the most. Also, I think that all these bands start to sound just a little bit the same once the vocalists are in. It's no surprise to me that periphery only released their first album with and without vocals. It's simply because the vocal inspired songs can't stand on their own anymore. With that being said, I stronly advise anyone who bothered to read this to go and listen to Chimp Spanner's album titled "All roads lead here" and just try to imagine vocals that wouldn't take away from the atmosphere of the album. It can't be done.
Bence Bellon I almost forgot to add that I don't mind Intervals doing the vocal thing, it's clear that all these bands need the vocalist to get a wider audience to go on tours and give live shows, and I hope it all works out and they get more popular. I believe the instrumental approach could work out with one man efforts (as it does in many cases, apparently). I fully understand that mostly other guitar players and instrumentalists can appreciate certain things. I too started from simpler music and worked my way through many bands over the years who I used to enjoy a lot but I just can't listen to them anymore because nothing is happening in the songs.
Bence Bellon You didn't get my point, I was refering to people who blindly reject a song just because it has vocals on it, claiming "vocals are shit", "vocals are gay", etc, without making any kind of appreciation about the artistic value it might carry, and how it, sometimes, complements the song. I actually enjoy instrumentals the most, since I am not too much into vocals, and I write instrumental music, but I also consider myself capable of making a fair criticism of many kind of artistic manifestation, whether I like it or not. An empty, destructive criticism is a cancer for art, my friend. Sorry if my english isn't right.
Ale Ponessa To me, its about a fine line of what the vocals bring to the song.. I think they're extremely good for this song and band. I (personally) dislike Djent/prog metal when they throw in a bunch of extremely harsh vocals.
Haters gonna hate. I love it and I think you guys made a smart move having Mike as a frontman. I'm looking forward to how the rest of the album is going to sound with him on it.
this song made me fall in love with metal no seriously, this is my first metal song is there any bands like this that make music sorta similar to this??? (I.e progressive metal?)
TesseracT, Dream Theater, Nevermore are some good ones, although Intervals are my favorites! You can also try melodic Death metal like Insomnium, Skyfire, Soilwork. Cheers!
+Kyubey Check Plini out, he's really praised for his melodic sometimes jazzy style, I find Paper Moon really similar to this track. Also look for metalcore bands, also melodic but a bit more commercial.
Aaron marshal is one of the most underrated, talented musician/composer i've ever heard. i thought 'In Time' was good as instrumentals but this is just awesome
I find this song excellent despite what people are saying about the vocals. And to those who deem to whole LP 'generic' and 'bland', keep in mind that this is just one song. Also, in my experience, bands tend to release singles that are radio-friendly, and I think that's the case with this song too. TL;DR: Don't judge a LP based on the released single. It's just one song.
This is like Widek meets Starset. I just discovered this album and I LOVE it. I've been obsessed with smaller artists like this lately, and I'm always surprised at the talent displayed with these bands like Widek, Distant Dream, Intervals, and others.
In my opinion, the vocals make this song sound a little repetitive, they're good but I think there could be a lot more. Would also like to hear a few more instrumental sections rather than having singing the whole way through.

Bence Bellon
I almost forgot to add that I don't mind Intervals doing the vocal thing, it's clear that all these bands need the vocalist to get a wider audience to go on tours and give live shows, and I hope it all works out and they get more popular.
Bence Bellon That being said, I consider yours a good criticism, for the record.
Ale Ponessa To me, its about a fine line of what the vocals bring to the song.. I think they're extremely good for this song and band. I (personally) dislike Djent/prog metal when they throw in a bunch of extremely harsh vocals.
Meeting aaron marshall was the coolest experience
The singer reminds me of a combination of Celldweller and the most recent singer for The Human Abstract. Oh and UNF THAT GUITAR WORK
Thats what I was thinking as well.
The vocals are a little low in the mix as well.
Damn! Best thing to happen with Intervals! Lovin' the change!
So hawt.
i was thinking the same thing lol
its intervals. theyre so hawt right now...
Mario Domanico i know right? i couldn't help but fapp all over this one
*jizz in my pants*
i usually prefer screams over cleans but this is so good. like one of the best songs i've heard in a while.
The shit that hits at 4:30 blew my fucking brains out, love that shit!
0:13 i think i'm in love with this riff
A good instrumental alternative to Intervals is their drummer's stuff. Really tasty. Search Anup Sastry and listen to that.
This!
Haters gonna hate. I love it and I think you guys made a smart move having Mike as a frontman. I'm looking forward to how the rest of the album is going to sound with him on it.
this song made me fall in love with metal
no seriously, this is my first metal song
is there any bands like this that make music sorta similar to this???
(I.e progressive metal?)
TesseracT, Dream Theater, Nevermore are some good ones, although Intervals are my favorites! You can also try melodic Death metal like Insomnium, Skyfire, Soilwork. Cheers!
Satwik Ramchandre yeah, I really like MELODIC style
Cool! Start with Insomnium and Skyfire then!
+Kyubey Check Plini out, he's really praised for his melodic sometimes jazzy style, I find Paper Moon really similar to this track. Also look for metalcore bands, also melodic but a bit more commercial.
+Kyubey Check out Periphery and Polyphia. TesseracT and Animals as Leaders are also really good
Aaron marshal is one of the most underrated, talented musician/composer i've ever heard. i thought 'In Time' was good as instrumentals but this is just awesome
"A voice within."
I get it.
You guys got a vocalist. Lol.
The more I listen to this song, the more I like it. Amazing stuff guys.
In my opinion, the vocals make this song sound a little repetitive, they're good but I think there could be a lot more.
Would also like to hear a few more instrumental sections rather than having singing the whole way through.
Mike's voice on this is so refreshing to hear! I get a Sevendust vibe from his vocals. I love it!
