I highly recommend getting a ADM saddle for it. Congrats on the new mount.

Hi Marvin hope all is well! What's the benefit of an ADM saddle?

@@AstroVagabond A couple of things. There are two versions of the ADM mount for the EQ6-R Pro. One that is pretty similar in size to the saddle that comes with the EQ6. The other saddle is longer and gives more support to heavier scopes with longer dovetail bars. The ADM is machined much better. The stock EQ6 saddle looks almost like it was cast rather than machined. If you put a scope in the default saddle and look at the end of the saddle you will see that when it tightens it lifts up on one side. In my opinion this can lead to the scope not sitting in the same position every time. Not a deal breaker.

Marvin is right. have been using the upgrade and is way better than the one provided with the mount.

Hi Bill, I upgraded from HEQ5 Pro to EQ6R Pro and it is an awesome mount. The only downside is the weight (lugging the 6 around is much more of a chore than the 5!) and the stock saddle (see @Marvin's comment). My next purchase will be the replacement ADM saddle! Anyway just to clarify a point you made in the video- Skywater describe the mount payload for the EQ6-R as 44 lbs/20kg "for astrophotography", so as far as I have read, you don't need to apply a factor (such as 60% for the HEQ5 Pro capacity), you should be able to go close to the full 44lbs limit. I've only put around 11 kg (EdgeHD8 + OAG + EFW + etc) on mine so far and it slews the 8" scope as if it is nothing! (oh and ps. the EdgeHD8 on the eq6r pro is good for galaxy/planetary stuff!). Anyway have fun with it and clear skies!

Hi Greg thank you for the feedback and clarification on payload. I've just started to dig into the EdgeHD8. Greg at some point I might want to pick your brain as your setup is similar to what I had in mind. Let's stay in touch if you are open to it. 👍

I agree with others who say get the ADM saddle. It is finely machined and the dovetails fit more snugly, and the saddle will not loosen or slip. One other thing I notice about your EQ-6R Pro is the additional USB3 jack below the hand control and auto guider ports. I have seen this port on every EQ-6R video I have watched in the last 3 months. I bought my EQ-6R Pro in 2018 and it does not have this port. Is it a direct substitute for the hand control port, so you can leave the hand control connected and use the new port for a cable to a computer control or a raspberry Pi device like the ASI Air? If so, can you also delete your hand control and connect to the HC port directly if you don't have the new port? When was that port added?

Así de alta es la EQ6R?

Sí con las piernas completamente extendidas. Ya no los extiendo para que el telescopio esté más cerca del suelo.

Good to know and thank you for the feedback. Just starting to explore what the challenges will be if I go that direction. I think that will take me into an OAG scenario. Much to think about.
