Hey Dude? I actually wanna be a anthropomorphic animal but im not a furry. Is that ok to have as a Race?

    • @Ashley_Graves_1

@@autisticfanontheinternet4913 Well, there are Dragonborns (not the Skyrim kind), Aarakocras, Bugbears, Kenkus, Kobolds, Lizardfolks, Tabaxis, Tortles, Centaurs, Loxodon, Minotaurs, Locathahs, and Grungs.
Some races that have anthropomorphic ties: Yuan-ti Purebloods, Simic Hybrid, Shifters, and Changelings.
      Hope this answers your questions!

DMing my first ever game of D&D in a week, ive never played it and neither have my players. I COULD NOT figure out the charcter sheets unitll i watched this video and now i realise its very simple. Thank you mate for doing this because D&D is a very daunting game to beginners with all the numbers and sheer amount of possibilites. Also if anyone reads this and wants to give me a few tips that would be awesome.

Great. I’m so glad it helped! My advice, is to not sweat the small stuff and have fun. Certainly read the rules and prepare, but at the game table you will inevitably find yourself having to figure things out as you go. And that’s fine!

Seen ur post.. been playing alot...
I know you probably have did alot of studying
I recommend many thngs befire you dm
      1. Watch a couple videos on here rules for dming
Inckuding 10 things not to do mistakes per se
      2. Read read... relax and i would tell ur group your new and to take full feedback at all times
      3. Ask for feedbavk b4 during after game
      4. Never split parties ever unless its done right
It wastes time makes it tiugh detracts from a dungeon etc
      5. I would not make it tough and nit maie it easy
5a if u split a party back rule 4a do it on second meeting never first and if u must do it make it fast and worth it
If u are llanning on a split party already then i siggest u need to cancel the idea until ur experienced..
Many groups will get mad at you...
      6. Dont burn hours over technicals ...
Have all character sheets readynto go befroe u start
      7. My personal advice ...
Never ever ever force stuff unless needed.
Its ur d2ungeon but its their right to not game with you
      8. Never argue rules
9, if u argue rules roll a dice high roll wins
After the dungeon read the ruling and learn
      10. Dont allow over powerful characters to be too strong
Deal with them wisely....give them blindness for a coulke rounds lol dont kil, them but give them a taste ...
      11. Dont have an ego..
      12. Habe fun make it fun for everyine then they will get addicted and you also.. you will then have fun get better
      13. If they say you need help then get it
      14. Ifnu have 3 hrs first game i would avoid waiasting time on getting spell stiff and character sheets and waisting time on meeting ...inwould start fairly fast...
Monitor the group of hey happy or bored
      If bored get it moving....
      Never frustrated them alot
Never fristrated them at end unless it has meaning for next meeting
I would make it fun ....
Like bring npc with them ...15minutes
Hit them enciunters in firdt 20mins
      Have a fun puzzle etc
Dont bognthem with long intros history ...
      Histiry can be later ...
So ge tthem havng 3 hrs if alot if fun first game then u can u can mix it up later
I know im saying alot and changing your plans abit but thus might help you
I hope some of thus helps you you night know alot
But i hope u like them
I noticed u probably already dmed wondering how u did and how its going
Hopefully u are learning these and you can use some

There’s a Japanese story that’s even based on this Chinese legend: the shogun lent a priceless fish painting by a Chinese artist to a family to admire. The fish doesn’t have an eye for the same reason as the original Chinese story. A rival family schemed to get the good family in trouble with the shogun by sneakily painting the eye of the fish, so it came to life and escape to a pond, making it look like the good family “stole” the fish.
It ended with a hero diving into the pond, wrestling with the fish and plucking out its eye so it returned to the painting.

      roll 24d6
drop the lowest 6, so basically the 1's and maybe a few 2's if you got less than 6 1's
then let them put 3 numbers together to make a stat, they can go max in some and low in others, minmaxing
or just go wahay and average

Wow, no one makes basic videos for beginners anymore, so it's very cool to see something like this for new players. I also think with the fairly recent release of the essentials kit, there will be a whole new generation of new players coming to this for the first time. Also, I think George Castanza would probably be a Dwarven wizard. I don't know why, but that's what I would do.

    • @Heimal

I thought George would probably be a Gnome Warlock, myself. I doubt he'd put in the work to be a Wizard. And a patron who just talks and talks about nothing at all would work. Partner him with a Half Elf Bard comedian, a terrible Elven Cleric, and a tall Human Fighter and you have yourself a party.

Hey there kids, when he gets to the calculating ability modifiers part, he made it more complicated then it has to be. There is literally a guide in the player's handbook, on page 13 top right-hand corner that tells you what your ability modifiers will be from your ability scores. He was still right, but there's enough math in D&D as it is, no need to add more.

    • @g80gzt
      @g80gzt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      10 is 0
every even up, you slap +1 on your modifier
every odd down, you slap -1 on your modifier
      so a 7 is two odds down. 9, 7. so -2.
      a 14 is two evens up. 12, 14. so +2.
      then logic it out

For a sorcerer your hit dice is a d6 and you start lvl 1 with 6 plus your constitution modifier. Every level above that you can either roll a d6 and add constitution modifier or you can just take 4 plus constitution modifier. Each class is different so read your class

Just remember that D&D is NOT a rules light game. It is many MANY rules. It only feels like rules light to the player because the game passes all the rules to the DM to figure out.
The best way to start is simply to learn the basics and then read up on the rules after each session. If you don't know what the rules are during a session, just make something up that sounds fitting and look it up later. Do not spend time during the game to figure it out.

I have been watching your whole series explaining the functions of D&D.
I was once part of a very short campaign my dad hosted with my sibling and I. only we never got to make our own character and we basically player our in real life selves which killed the fun a lot. there for it also didn't last long since dad was hard on us and made it too difficult for beginning players. I will say we lacked team work and having players with difficulty understanding basics didn't help much either. The campaign was stopped the moment my brother (the bard) and I ( the rogue) were finally having fun. we were meme-ing to much and it frustrated my dad and made him legit rage quit as DM.
It was a horrible first D&D experience yet despite my first ever play through being complete ass I still wanted a second roll at the game. Seeing so many cosplayers and Larp action on video's as well as the creative fun people seemed to have with it really just wanted me to play it even more.
For 3 years I couldn't find a campaign to join I could only find players willing to play the game. No DM had free time or would simply ghost us.
So legit start this week as to when I write this after 3 years since my first and last session.... I decided I would become the DM.
I have made worlds before for art and animations. I have 183 character in my excel listed and each year 5 more join or so. I have 13+ original universes and I hosted a lot of Werewolves back in the days as a kid (the 999 game version werewolven van wakkerdam).... I just have to give this a shot.
And I was clue less the moment I picked up the first book man xD hahahahah. SO much info and I'm dyslexic to my core man reading the PHB would take me years.
I'm so glad a lot of D&D players make tips and tricks video's on how to start. I gotta say yours help the most. I am still collecting a lot of data for the first session with my 4 players. If all goes well I will post a reply here on how it went and if the group wants to continue. I'm giving my party the freedom to make a character of any race (even own builds or ones found on good written forums) 1, cuz i'm broke and can't afford more books. 2. I don't wanna limit my players to much. The classes will be from the PHB. I wished my dad gave us that freedom so I will hand that freedom to my players. I will probably start easy even in the mechanics and try to build it up as we go. The first play session probably will be a small dungeon. This can help testing the mechanics so we all can get comfortable with it. If we continue I will up the game as we grow as group.
I really wanna thank you for these video's / series! I have been taking notes and even made noted for in my D&D book so I can always keep these close. I'm also not native English so these more depth explanations really helped. Honestly can't say it enough thank you!
to other people i'm always open to your personal tips or tricks! shower me with help and hopefully I can make use of that. the more info i get the more i can do.
    for now wish me luck!!!

Thank you!!! This was a wonderful video! I'm kind of new to DnD, but I'm really aiming to become a dungeon master once I get more comfortable with the game; to that effect, our DM is giving those of us who want to learn lessons in DMing, and our first lesson is building a character sheet from the ground up, no apps or auto-fill. That way we can help our players build THEIR characters when introducing new people to the game! I'm excited to go to my next lesson with a solid understanding of all these numbers and concepts. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Tomorrow night will be my 4th time ever playing DnD, and I kinda jumped in mid-campaigne. the DM kinda sped me through a character build based off what I was interested in for a first character. When I pulled out a paper character sheet, most of the other players were surprised to see such an ancient thing, and I've never really been given a good walkthrough on filling one out. I happen to be a Drow Rogue, so this really helped me understand what is going on so I don't need to lean on the other players or DM as much. Awesome videos man!

Rogues are awesome, but sadly people seem to think they are all criminals for some reason. I see them more as an expert class. So I made me a Half-Elf Scout Rogue and Gloom Stalker Ranger multiclass, that also had shit stats because I rolled really bad.
Turned out it was the best character I have ever made. With +11 in Stealth, Zephyr Strike (advantage at will) and Pass Without Trace (+10 to any stealth bonus) it turned out it is REALLY hard to spot him as he at minimum get 22 and at maximum 43 in stealth.
