Brilliant series of videos on weathering, you make it look so easy. What were your early attempts at weathering like? Any disasters? Are the locos easy to clean should you want to start again?

Hi John. My early attempts were iffy to say the least. I started out using just powders (wasn't to bad for the first attempt) it was trialing other methods and combining them together that was the hardest part. Some products react badly with others. Solvent based products can be difficult to remove but being gentle and not rushing the removal should be fine.. I've done a few.
My "take off technique" as I call it was only found because I trashed a model in frustration and then cleaned it back to start again only to find that it actually looked good with half the mess removed.

I’m new to all this and haven’t had a layout for 30 years, but now I’m in my mid 40’s and I feel the need to get started again. If I need any advice, which I will definitely, am I alright asking you? I’ll try not to pester you too much! 😬

Thanks for the comment. You're right! The result after airbrushing was almost the same as the final shot in this video. If you are on Facebook I have a page and there is a few shots on there after it was varnished.
      Tim.

Brian ,finnerton central. Humbrol range of powders. Do remember to mix them up a bit so you don't end up with a uniform colour.

Brian ,finnerton central. Weathering powders will come in various colours - ie brown, black, white, rust etc.. to get the best effect mix some colours together. As in rust powder it's far to orange on its own so add some dark brown to differ the tones.. I have a pot of everything mixed up into track grime colour.
