Summer of '97. Just graduated high school with the rest of my life right in front of me. Endless possibilities. The world seemed huge. My friend just bought a house. No parents around. We partied hard all summer long. Lots of drinking. Lots of drugs. Lots of girls. We thought we were invincible. So many nights we broke out the acoustics and jammed to this song. Life was so simple. Life was so good. We all went off to college or found real jobs after that summer and went out separate ways. I miss those times. I miss that era. This song brings me back to that summer every time I hear it.
Summer of 97' I was entering as a freshman..but the music...the fun, the freedom was overwhelmingly pure. Fuckin music was the shit...it was a time of a lifetime. People who shared that time with me...WE ARE LUCKY!!! Nobody will ever understand...and i could give a fuck! We do! And it will never fade.
Lol. The rubbish people spout. "Endless possibilities", then settles into the all too predictable one summer of drink, drugs and sex. So ludicrous, so funny.
It’s hard to listen to these tracks sometimes. The nostalgia hits so hard. I honestly thought life couldn’t get any better at 13 years old going to see can’t hardly wait at a movie theatre that closed a decade ago.
Yeah. Born in 1980. The 90s was one of the best decades to experience the existential crisis of teendom. Gimme my damn flannel and grunge bands back. Screw it, I'm bringing it back. 🤟🏻
A girl, a fast car, the police, teen awkwardness… man the 90’s really were great. The memories just flood in when this track plays! Here’s to better days
Sometimes I desperately miss how I felt in 1999. I don't know if it was really something of the era or if it's simply having been very young and relatively innocent then , but every part of the aesthetic here has this sense of hopeful promise to it. Even the gloomy-looking bits are more, "Oh, that's rather odd looking, neat, well done," than truly bleak. It's grimy, but it fully intends to clean up later. I miss that sort of optimism, when that kind of stability still seemed possible. Anyway, I'm here from Soccer Mommy, too. Color Theory rules.
Oh yeah!! Nice detailed perspective. I heard "circle the drain" and someone mentioned this song so I knew I had to hear it as well. I'm lucky to find two new bands from different decades tonight that have a similar great sound !
Lyrics: Guess I'm stuck in a dream Surrounded by coloured leaves on the ground As I stare at the trees I see one fall down on my hand As I start to explore I can't ignore a man He turns his head around His face was all worn by the sun I'm going out for a while So I can get high with my friends I will I'm going out for a while Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home Today Drifting down a road Losing myself in a dream Feel my hands getting cold Sat in a boat on a lake I'm going out for a while So I can get high with my friends I will I'm going out for a while Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home Today Climbing up trying my best As I sink Climbing up trying my best As I sink again Lying back on the floor Reaching up high into space See myself in a glass I'm counting the lines on my face Again Counting the lines on my face Again I'm going out for a while So I can get high with my friends I will I'm going out for a while Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home Today I'm going out for a while So I can get high with my friends I will I'm going out for a while Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home Today Today, today, today, today

I was 13 when this came out. No smart phones no social media. It was a much better place to grow up in. No matter how hard life was there was still freedom. I would hop on my board go find my friend Carlos and go skate all evening.
The beginning sounds like wonderwall by Oasis, and the chorus has the sound of the smashing pumpkins guitars...I'm in!!!!! Great track... I must have missed this one because back in 97 I was in college and all they ever played was the Dave Matthews band and puff Daddy 🙄🙄
I heard this recently on Lithium on Sirius radio. How the hell did I never hear this years ago? I thought I heard every song from the 90's This song is awesome.
Lithium is worth my 25 bucks a month..I'm an audiophile and consider the 90s my coming of age. Moved from Texas to Seattle in 1992 at 18. Wow, what an amazing time to be in Seattle.
Hopefully this song doesn’t fade away for the next generation to come as they forget about the 90s era of rock and become fans of what will be the new trend of pop/rap music or even a new genre. It’s pretty dumb to think that evolution stops with humans. There is still more to come with music and life in general as everyone/everything will eventually fade. God I hope The Beatles will still be remembered in 1,000 years from now (I used them as an example because they are the most famous band in the world for the incredible revolution in rock in the 60s and also cause there’re one of my favorites)
My first band I ever saw live at lipos providence Rhode Island as a teenager this song encapsulated me made me want to keep living thank you feeder if u ever read this u just might wanna know you helped a teenager me at a crossroads wen a horrible act was committed

Yeah this song was cool, reminded me of getting away from my alcoholic dad. And just having a great laugh with my m8s. RIP Jake and Sav. Cool memories. :)
GREAT album. Have to say I totally prefer the album version of Suffocate over its single verion. Here is a nice made video of it. th-cam.com/video/dLYwkVAMn7U/w-d-xo.html
I remember sitting in MEPS enlisting in the Army, and the little radio turned on in the intake area starting to play this. About 3/4 us suddenly looked like nervous deer in headlights for a few seconds and the SSGT babysitting us crying from laughing so hard, trying so hard to get a wish crack out. I miss that me.
Once in a while, I go back to this song! It made me quit my job in Belgium late 90's to Join a Boston grunge band for several years /insane years of recklessness. Met my future wife before moving back to Belgium. Hearing this song makes me wonder how, why music can push you to do amazing stuff?! When I explain this story to my son while we're listening to this! He just shrugs! & say "you are crazy" (Tim Boston)
The nostalgia side of my brain tells me how much I love this song, and how good it is, and the memories that I have from when it was released. The logical and more rational side of my brain listens to this now and realizes what a crappy song it actually is.
I was gonna commit suicide over a chick about three years ago. I was even hospitalized. I would have missed my son's face when he got accepted to UC Berkeley last year. You don't know what's coming years ahead. Think about it. I used to hear this 20 years ago. I was in a job where I couldn't get high. this song made me wanna smoke weed and chill but I couldn't.

As far as American radio.........Possibly the greatest lost track of the 90's.
cuz it was british!
Daysleeperchuk, the greatest lost track of the 80's was A-ha's "The Sun Always Shines on TV"
The live versions are much better tho
Or possibly Got You Where I Want You by The Flys....??
Yes! Either of these two. Great call.

In any kind of genre
One of the greatest songs of all time, been listening to it for 19 years now
The music perfectly encapsulates what the late 90s felt like
Got to know about this lovely song from the movie 'Can't Hardly Wait' all the way back in 1998.

Concordo
Lyrics:
Guess I'm stuck in a dream
Surrounded by coloured leaves on the ground
As I stare at the trees
I see one fall down on my hand
As I start to explore
I can't ignore a man
He turns his head around
His face was all worn by the sun
I'm going out for a while
So I can get high with my friends
I will
I'm going out for a while
Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home
Today
Drifting down a road
Losing myself in a dream
Feel my hands getting cold
Sat in a boat on a lake
I'm going out for a while
So I can get high with my friends
I will
I'm going out for a while
Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home
Today
Climbing up trying my best
As I sink
Climbing up trying my best
As I sink again
Lying back on the floor
Reaching up high into space
See myself in a glass
I'm counting the lines on my face
Again
Counting the lines on my face
Again
I'm going out for a while
So I can get high with my friends
I will
I'm going out for a while
Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home
Today
I'm going out for a while
So I can get high with my friends
I will
I'm going out for a while
Don't wait up 'cause I won't be home
Today
Today, today, today, today
Thank you!
