    Stray kids has found their colour in music, while still developing new sounds. I need this album, it’s rare for me to like every single song on an album. I really love their music. Their last album, I was fortunate to have in my possession, hopefully I can get an opportunity to have their NOEASY ALBULM.

      @@jamesrawlins735 yes actually most of their fans are international and they weren’t the most popular domestically, however, earlier this year they went on a survival music program between other kpop groups and they actually won! and it brought in a lot of korean fans. so with this comeback and album they have a lot more domestic listeners:)))
      also, as of today (1 week after this albums release) they sold one million albums!! which is a huge accomplishment as only they are the 6th korean act to have reached this point!!
      sorry abt the spam just really excited abt these guys seeing their hard work as they are self produced and composing! and their music really stands out (sometimes negatively to others) in the kpop industry.
      sorry i apologized for the spam and then spammed u again:/

    The woodcutter part is also a diss towards haters that like to pick apart their songs sounding 'the same', referring to gods menu, but it is not. Just like gods menu, Changbin starts off the song very strongly, next is Hans followup rap. Thunderous does the same thing, expecting it to cut to the pre-chorus after Hans verse however Changbin cuts Han off with the line 'go back woodcutter, nothing to cut here' ^^
    The same thing happens with the 2nd chorus, ppl would be expecting them to skip the 2nd chorus and move on to the bridge (like again, gods menu). However they added the giggle to mock the 'expected' situation and continued to go into the second chorus head on. :)

    소리꾼 is actually the title for traditional pansori (판소리) singers. In the first rap verse of Changbin with 나무꾼 (lumberjack), he actually does that verse in a pansori style.

    For me Sorikkun is more structurally and sonically polished than God’s Menu. It is also more general audience friendly. Each member shines in his parts. The choreo is slick and memorable. The mv is top notch and fun to watch. Confidence and polish are evident from the promo stage performances. Stray Kids are maturing as song creators and performers in their 3rd year. As a fan I am loving where SKZ is going.

      @kyrian7600 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ehhhhh I have to disagree, specifically with the whole “general audience friendly” bit. The song is well crafted and done with a very high level of skill and talent but I wouldn’t call it any more or less polished or refined as any of their other songs and I think that’s kinda the point. God’s Menu and Thunderous are both statements of the fact that they don’t really care much about appealing to a wider audience by conforming to their tastes and forsaking their own artistic integrity. They might end up appealing to a larger audience than with previous songs but that’s more of a product of their hard work, songwriting talent, and the charisma that comes with this confident yet humble rejection of conformity; correlation does not necessarily imply causation. Polish implies the smoothening out of any jagged edges or rough textures but I think it’s exactly those rough, jagged edges that makes Stray Kids’ music so inherently unique to them. A truly polished song that’s trying to be more general audience friendly would be completely opposite to the whole point of the song and to what SKZ stands for as a whole.

    6:35 you should check out their bside called Cheese, is the first song in the album and is a very clear diss track to haters, even more than 소리꾼 was.
    In the song, they say "You find DU DU DU DU DU DU funny?" (referring to God's Menu) "What's so funny about a headache?" (referring to Side Effects) "Is the pigeon and the magpie funny to you? Is the crow's crowing funny to you?" (again referring to God's Menu, Changbin's verse) and "Isn't how we walk so funny? Everything we made is a joke Look, why'd you say it like that?"
    So they are addressing all the people that kept talking bad about their songs and literally laughing at very serious songs like 3Racha's 42 which talks about suicide (they didn't refer this song in Cheese like they did with God's Menu and Side Effects but I have no doubt it served as motivation to Chan while writing Cheese)

    • @gokcegungor4826
      @gokcegungor4826 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Thanks. Also I want to added this, "Is the crow's crowing funny to you?" means AWKARD SILENCE. STRAY KIDS was first one using that phares on a song, and it used many after it in very different ways. But nobody referred to them. they again mock about that situation and how they also get awkward silence around them.

    The blue fire is representing goblins! Basically, Stray Kids is there and competing (in the singer competition from the mv) because it’s fun and they want to, they don’t have anything to prove because they already know they’re the best.

    • @kovidcadera7522
      @kovidcadera7522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      If I'm not mistaken, Goblins are essentially the Kitsunes of Korean folklore. Or Loki in Norse mythology. They just do it for fun and that goes for anything. Messing up a kingdom for the sake of it? They'll enter in and just wreck the place. Want to ruin someone's day? Sure, it's *fun*.

    This is my favorite song. At first, I agree if anyone says that this gets the vibe of God’s menu. Then, after hearing it many times, this is another level of good. The way they combine it with traditional music coupled with the weird sound that seems like they are just joking with the music makes this song a masterpiece. The pre -chorus background music is so beautiful. The lyrics are bolder and the choreography is precise.

      Yes I watched many reactions.. but no one said God's menu is better than Thunderous!!.. although many said that when they reacted to back door! (that God's menu is better than back door !) !!!.. and this is really a development and a good thing that skz made a song that can be seen as a better version of their hit song (aka God's menu) !!

  • @WiseSmellyLegs
    @WiseSmellyLegs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +462

    As you mentioned: “it feels like it is a part of the same journey”… that is the best way to describe my feelings. At first I really liked the music video, mainly because of the animated parts! But then I thought: “Yeah, it goes the same way as God’s Menu, but also it is not Boom Boom and Baam case…”.
    Speaking of similarities with God’s Menu, also the editing is done the same way, for example when Lee Know for the first drop summons other members, it is like the “tututu part”, where dancers appear to the beat. Or also the blur for transitions.
    I don’t know why but I do like a lot! I am wondering how would it feel like if this came before God’s Menu and Back Door, because I have a feeling that I can appreciate it because I know these songs already. As you say, it has been building towards this all time.
    I hope title track for their repackage of this album will also have its connection with this title track as it was with God’s Menu and Back Door, or also some new Japanese song like All In.

    I always found the woodcutter line so impressive because I found woodcutter as a playful word to replace antis that like to cut songs in a way like they dissect every verse and compare it to other songs may it be from other groups or their own previous song.
    This is what made me think they're trying to structure it like God's Menu (Changbin & Han starting) BUT they played with it and brought Changbin back with THAT very line as if they're saying "THERE'S NOTHING TO DISSECT, HATERS!"

    I love that this song is definitely a clap back to haters. Like you said, I think a lot of the newer pop gets criticized as negatively noisy or loud, especially Stray Kids. Thus, the choice of the kkwaenggwari is brilliant because it is a traditional Korean instrument that is basically a high pitched gong, and in itself is rather noisy. By heavily featuring a traditional instrument, theyre low-key reminding people that noise has been a part of music from the beginning.

  • @CrushHM09

    It does feel like this song is an emanation of where they might feel they are in their careers, like musically - the whole embracing of being "loud" and "noisy" and "just noise" and everything. I love how confident it is, and not without basis, the instrumental is PHENOMENAL and the choreography is really really cool, maybe one of my favourites of their dances! And the album as a big piece of art too - I think it's incredibly cohesive, there's dialogue between tracks, repeated phrases and motifs, which I always love... I think this comeback shows their growth and maturity as artists along with a few confidence they discovered since kingdom. I also think that the theme of ignoring the haters and just being yourself is reminiscent of earlier releases like my pace as well as being reflected in the album through cheese. I think that they have really flourished and are comfortable in their music now and both older and newer fans can see this change. I am immensely proud of the kids success and have really enjoyed seeing them grow so rapidly especially within the past year. I just wish for them to be happy making their music and for it to represent them at that stage in their life (which they have been doing thus far).

    Actually I thought them spitting on their hands and then rubbing it was a symbolism of getting ready to do their thing..I mean I hv seen that being used as a common gesture to symbolise "getting ready to fight".
    Also the people dressed in black and the scavenger birds makes me think that they are preying on those haters who are dead inside(like scavengers feeding on to dead matter which gives them more power, just like how skz say feeding on to haters comments, gives them more motivation.)
    The two circles black and white in color (representing ying and yang) have often been used in used in historical dramas, they bang these big sheet circles with hammers which creates an echoing noise(almost alarming) and travels long distances...now having both the ying and the yang noise symbolises skz's duality in music.

    The overall impression I got from the song and the music video is that STRAY KIDS IS AHEAD OF THEIR GENERATION.
    -The character they are playing and the setting of the mv implies that they are from the future. They are all wearing modern clothes and accessories, while other people are in traditional ones. This is also reflective on the combination of modern and traditional sound of the song.
    Next, it also talks about their standing/positions on Kpop or music industry in general. They are out of place or we could say they are the odd ones.
    -Like what PD said, their past cbs are like leading to this song which is funny because if you think about it their first release song on 2020, after the Cle series, is Gone Days. The song talk about that the new generation is now taking over the old. Then it was followed by God's Menu, the first of its kind, the song that pioneered/established the mala-taste genre. It was experimental and a very bold move of them to release it as the title track for their 1st studio album.
    -Lastly, the past cbs till now really paid off. The moment they released Side Effects, the most controversial song of SKZ, the turning point of their career began. The skz lore and reality (the trajectory of their career and evolution of their songs) are well-entangled to each other. I don't know who's managing skz career and what's on their mind but they are really bold like skz members.
    ~ps. their impact was really like a thunder, it leaves a deep impression to everyone. and it's evident because the industry are 'taking notes' of skz.

    Stray kids delivering such a high quality music video that feels like a high budget movie while many kpop mvs are just relaying in green screen (sometimes it works but it just get so repetitive) is just so amazing! As you said, there is not even one “glamour” shot in here, nothing is to solely highlight the members’ visuals, everything is serving the story and the culture they aimed to put in this song! For me no one is coming close to their cinematography, and the amount of genres they experimented on the entire album is also a delight. Also, I'd like to say, I interpret the "ptui ptui ptui" spitting sound as spitting on their hands to get ready to do something (in this case, bringing down the thunder and the noise). You know, how sometimes people are shown spitting on their hands to have a better grip.

Some people annoyed this coz Stray Kids concept is not changed since GOD's MENU. They wanna get something different new and don't wanna get upbeat for everytime. For me, I understand and feel them coz it's not related but I also annoyed BTS's same concept( Dynamite-Butter-PTD) released recently one after another. But, I liked and loved Stray Kids coz of their these concept styles which are genuinely suited with their youth. They slayed it. I'm quite newbie with Stray Kids music and I dive into Stray Kids with God's Menu,Back Door and Victory Song not too long time ago. These songs are easily become my fav type of songs from them coz it is long time I don't get these types of savage and confidence music from my fav boy groups. Now also this Thunderous became my fav from them too. I will just stay with these kids till they keep going these concept and style or another different unique ones which are suited with them. first, BTS did that trinity on purpose. the three songs make an era, that's why they are similar (Dynamite - an upbeat retro song to make you feel better in the midst of a pandemic; Butter - an upbeat retro song but using beats and style from a different era, also using BTS' charm to make you feel better since they can't do shit but to lift your mood up when everything is this shitty; PTD - an upbeat song sprinkled with Ed Sheeran's modern style to motivate you to hold on just a little longer). BTS does this because they use what's around or inside them but I won't except people to understand it, they just always want something else. same with Stray Kids. I'm not a Stay but I really love their music since God's Menu and I don't care if the songs are similar in any way. same with Itzy. when people say they do the same thing.. where? you are really an idiot if you think Wannabe and Not Shy is similar. meaningwise, maybe. nobody said you can't make a song with a similar meaning. point at someone who does the same as Itzy. nobody. point at someone who does the same as Stray Kids. nobody. point at someone who does the same as BTS. nobody. stop complaining and enjoy people's months of work or leave.

    Been following Stray Kidz since HELLEVATOR which i think thats their softest song ( after some sort of back tracking ).
    Since District 9 i think they have been took the path of REBELLION. They are REBELS.
    They put heavy vibes some dark vibes too. All of their title songs are non-mainstream , they create their own genre.
    So im used to their loudness, beside i am also a listener of Dir en Grey which is 10 if not 100 times more loud than all Stray Kidz songs combined.
    I kinda feel sad whenever i read the comment section on every SKZ title MV , mostly just appreciating some particular members visuals rather than enjoying the art or should i say tne world SKZ tried to show.
    Only since God's Menu which is the combinations of awesome MV editing, Felix voice battling the depth of Mariana Trench and the catchy chopping board part ( bonus NiziU members appearance ) they get noticed more.
    And this SORIKKUN are literally their war statement! Actually the album title are a warning already , "NOISY".
    This song kinda shows their growth of being a rebels. And by that, i want to know how far they will grow with the path they took in the middle of "woodcutters" sea.
    Seriously, i always love your reaction and review because you explain every aspect that comes in a song and the MV. And mostly i agree with you.
    The only valid reaction video that i always wait to watch whenever my bias group having comeback.
    If anyone reading this and are a fan of SKZ, dont just worshipping the members visuals. Praise their unique choreo and the culture that they bring.
    Example , how many of you know if some parts of MIROH choreo are based on the notorious New Zealand MAORI tribe 'HAKA' culture??
    Amazing reaction and review as always PD-nim!~

    Presence of blue flames in folklore is usually associated with dokkaebi (gremlins; they either come to cause trouble or actually help people) being near humans… aka. they are portraying dokkaebi (also… there’s 8 different types of these gremlins and there are 8 members of stray kids) in this MV. I also think that this MV has a second part (there are moments in the MV where they imply the presence of villains, but they don’t necessarily fight them in this MV… it’s more like… “we heard there’s trouble, so now we are here” and I think that there’s a chance that we might meet the ‘bad guys’ through the MV of the next comeback).
