Isn't that the best and the worst? Nintendo plays such great hold music. It suddenly becomes okay to be on hold. (And, well, every time I've had a problem with Nintendo, they've been an absolute GEM. So that's another plus for their Customer Service department.)

Has it really been that long? I remember that when my brother first bought it (I was five at the time) all the monsters scared the shit out of me, and I'd just sit in a save room, reading everything in the scan log. Until one day, about 4 years ago he made me a bet: beat his highest percentage, which was 90% in a week and a half, for a pretty reward of 50 dollars. I did so, and the game grew on me. Now when I'm feeling sad or really angry, I go back and burn some Pirates with the Plasma beam

Most GameCube titles have aged very well. The only title in my GC library that has aged a lot is Eternal Darkness, but graphics were never the focus.
Metroid Prime is still IMO one of the best first-person games EVER. Echoes and 3 hit different cords and get some elements better, but the overall *feel* of 1 is something else. Kinda the same thing happens in most video game series. Sequels enhance and refine the gameplay or story, but the first usually has the best feel to it, regardless of age.
I feel it with Metroid Prime, the 3D Zelda games, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and so many other franchises.

Kevin Penkin, the composer who made amazing music for several video games and the anime "Made in Abyss" said in an interview that this song was what made him interested in video game music. The wikipedia page states, in a 2012 interview, he referred to the theme's electronic synths and acoustic instruments as "absolute bliss". Truly shows how brilliant the ost of this game is.

Whats crazy is that metroid prime’s best tracks are NOT remixes off SNES. It is so, so hard to create a brand new track that is fresh, not derivative, but still ‘metroid’, and they did it here.

@@vitamindealer7915 Well Kenji Yamamoto is the composer of this game since Super Metroid (along with Minako Hamano), so it's not that surprising knowing that he makes incredible music while setting the "Metroid" style. What is impressive to me is how he managed to evolve the musical style from 16-bit SNES sounds to this and setting an overall musical style to this trilogy. It's a shame they both didn't come back for Dread though :(
At least I hope they come back for Prime 4 or else, it won't definitely be the same.

Metroid Prime holds a special place in my heart for the Metroid games. In addition to being a beautifully detailed FPS on the GameCube, it tells three very different but equally tragic stories. On the one hand it tells of the heart breaking decline of the Chozo civilization on Talon IV, which was once home to a thriving population that lived in harmony with nature before the asteroid that contained both Phazon and Metroid Prime fell. The second story it tells is of the hellish takeover of the planet by the Space Pirates as they try to fulfill their lust for ultimate power in the universe. The last story that it tells is that of Samus Aran herself in her quest to not only exact revenge on Ridley and the Space Pirates for taking her entire family from her (both human and Chozo) but her story of growth from being a hatching into being the ultimate warrior of the Chozo race. The Chozo hieroglyphics that you encounter throughout the game tell of the deep history that exists in the Metroid franchise as a whole, explaining the faith the Chozo had in Samus, watching her grow up from a child to an adult and bestowing the gift of her Power Suit upon her. A lot of people take the game at face value and view it simply as another blind run and gun adventure for Samus to participate in, but it's so much more than that and I wish more people could see it.
Phendrana Drifts is a snow-themed area in the game where the Chozo once lived before the dramatic climate change brought on by the Phazon asteroid's impact. By the time Samus arrives they're little more than cold ruins with some Chozo tech lying in wait for the right person to find it (notably the Booster Ball and Wave Beam power-ups. You can argue the point on the Spider Ball and Thermal Visor power-ups but I feel those are Space Pirate tech) Phendrana also possibly the most beautifully-written song in the game, which is Phendrana's main area theme.

it's desolate feeling but it also plays with these weird scales and modes that give it a distinctly metroid flavor so that the instruments dont even feel remotely christmasy. i always felt like the phendrana theme was somehow a variation on the original metroid 8-bit theme, an elaboration of it.

i know right metroid prime was good when i played it at like 6 or 7 but scared me in the water levels, but it seems nowadays all the games are rushed and could have a lot more potential then they already do. It's the publishers rushing the developers ruining these great games the C.o.D series is one it was good at the beginning when it was based on real war, but once they started making up crap like world war three and an artificial intelligence terrorist attack(seriously treyarch you could have been more creative) they could have at least changed the name of the series if they were making it semi modern semi futuristic warfare. im getting off topic what I'm trying to say is the publishers only want money they build all this hype and release these buggy games that aren't even fully made to the developers liking, and developers don't care about what the community thinks ,which is good because everyone bitches about something, they make a game that they themselves would like to play. All I'm saying is i agree and stop and think is that new game worth it or is it actually just crap.(the last thing is fact while most of the rest is my opinion.)

Never have I seen such a positive TH-cam comment page. I'm glad so many others share the same thoughts. The impact of the Metroid Prime, and that moment of entering Phendrana Drifts is very unique. Metroid Prime remains my favourite video game of all time. After playing games for over 20 years and now working in the gaming industry... it's still remains the unrivaled in my honest opinion.
Every time I look at the box art on the back of the title, the first image you see is Phendrana Drifts and immediately, the melody feels present. Open, pale blue skies. Gentle flakes gliding through the air. Ice cold water flowing between the snow covered rocks... and those wild creatures that look like a hybrid between a turtle and a dinosaur. With a shell made of thick, transparent ice.
    Love it.

***** of course i have played super metroid, but i think prime did more for the franchise than super metroid did. it took the metroid franchise, known for the 2d sidescrolling adventure genre, and brought it to the 3rd dimension, a whole new playing field, and did it well. for me, super metroid made a ton of improvements to the original game and enhanced what was so good about it, but metroid prime was a total reinvention of the franchise, starting from scratch and building from the ground up but keeping all of the hallmarks and traditions that identify it as a metroid game, and despite what a lot of old school metroid fans will tell you (i understand you are not one of those people), metroid prime maintains the feel and atmosphere of a true metroid game. the people who will try to tell you otherwise are just nostalgic for the 2d graphic style and didnt accept the change. that being said, i love super metroid. i think its awesome and its a masterwork of a game. that is clear, but i think it comes in at a close second for the greatest of the metroid series.

    •  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This game had the best OST ever. Retro did Samus right. It was incredible in every way.
We need 4. Man do we need Metroid Prime 4. IMO it's the only thing that could stand to the likes of the Halo's of the world. I heard some the crew over at 343 took heavy influence from Metroid prime when it came to coming up with the Prometheans.
Man this music, and the first time you enter Phendrana Drifts, that cutescene.....that's when I knew. One of the best games I've ever played. Top ten. Top ten.

I highly doubt that there will ever be a MP4. Main reason is that the vast majority of the team that worked on it left retro studios years ago, the important people went on to create armature studio.

Earthium We can only hope, man. Yeah, retro's team is disbanded but that doesn't limit other companies to make it a project. It would make money, and they know it. So why not just make it already? lol logic.

Koba Same reason valve doesn't make HL3, great videogames come from people who make money to make games, not make games to make money.

Some of the crew from 343 were former Retro Studios devs.

This is my favorite Metroid song ever, and I can't believe I keep forgetting it's name... but whenever I hear it on TH-cam I get obsessed all over again.
