People would have paid a fortune for that experience, sitting next to Colin, listening to him explain technique while thrashing round a stage. Penny was very lucky to get the interview but did an amazing job.
This is what You Tube is great for! A magical window into a genius, who was always working to be better and better! Great interview from a really knowledgeable presenter.
His demonstrations of understeer and oversteer were so cool to watch, he was just so good that he could do an "accidental" move on purpose so well that it doesn't look wrong!
So glad I found this. Dude actually just chilling answering questions. And to be fair the reporter lady kept her cool and had real questions Truly a hidden gem here.
the inteviwer is in my opinion the GOAT, cause she kept upt with colins pace and completely kept her cool, while I i would have shit my fucking pants the whole way through
Bro u should check the rollcage The rollbars The seatbelts And make sure they are quality made 😂😂 These types of things well if they gona hold up when the rolling over like 10times 🤣🤣 Its more important than the motor itself 😂😂 U imagine the fear his co driver when he sat for the team meeting and they are being told they are 2 mins behing the leader And collin saying - so today its pedal to the medal once again 😂😂 The co driver- ohhh God 😭😭😭😭
The man is a legend of the wrc as was his dad jimmy who i met some years ago on the cartel rally back in the 90’s a real gent and damned good at what he does
I used to work for a rally mechanic. He knew the whole rally scene and always had some interesting anecdotes about it. I can't remember which driver it was (Colin or Richard Burns) but one of them apparently had a really BIG ego and no one liked him. It wasn't mentioned in the media anywhere but people in that environment knew it well.
Imagine your first day of driving school and Colin McRae was your teacher. McRae: Ok, today your going to learn how to be a "Real Driver". Not like those other distracted drivers who need driver assist settings on their cars. Me (30 mins to an hour in lesson): SWEET JESUS! I JUST GOT WHIPLASH! (All while I'm laughing uncontrollably like a child because it's fun and I'm supposed to be paying attention!).

This was when a lot of racing cars were still manual so there were a lot of racing drivers right foot brakes. Sequential and paddle shift were very young.
The part that most road racers miss is the left foot braking. If you're not left foot braking when you don't need to downshift, you're WASTING time hopping between gas and brakes, right? . After I threshold brake and downshift, I hop both feet to the right and continue braking INTO the turn with my left foot to get the rotation started, while my right foot is covering the gas pedal and ready at an instant to throttle up. Keep Driving!
A man that drove through thousands of people at 150mph and killed no-one shouldn't have flown a helicopter? Cant remember, but i think the caa couldn't decide between pilot error and machine fault. Fairly sure Colin didn't fuck up.
He's just talking like it's a relaxing Sunday brunch while he goes flying around the course. Truly the best.
All credit to Penny for staying cool and asking sensible questions.
I doubt if most of us could!
Colin teaching and explaining car issues at the same time he's driving would put most other rally drivers to shame. What a Legend!
8:38 I like how he spontaneously decides to show her an example of how to correct oversteer. I almost thought he was gonna spin out then and there.
LOL @3:33"This is what it's like when you follow Tommi Makinen in the Safari Rally who won't move over"

I got a ride in the passenger seat of his Metro 6R4 D165 WVX with Colin driving, best day of my life

She said that some of the best drivers in the world don't left foot brake? How do those drivers achieve forward weight transfer?
He said right after that that it wasn’t true and that drivers only used that technique a long long time ago

This kind of shifter doesn't require using the clutch pedal? Looks weird.
Sequential transmission...
Richard Burns disliked this
Considering hes been dead since 2005 welllll...
