It's Awesome. Always Flat-Out, very calm, never brake before jumps, strong in many esses... What a Driver he was. Colin, we miss you all. You already have a place in my Motorsport Hall of Fame. Rest in Peace.
I love how he prepares for turns like a magician!... he flicks the car away pre turn and sometimes does 2 flicks in each direction(when hes slowing down) be4 going in the turn; and if u watch closely most of the times hes in a turn he spends it turning the wheel in the opposite direction of the turn to counter the oversteer. Man rally is completely a diff beast!
Thanks WRC for loading this video! Thanks for turning down the navigator voice too.. with the engine louder it just makes it more intense / scary, like it should!! Colin on Maximum Attack!
Again, gorgeous car control presented by Colin here. And it's all too easy to forget what a superb event the Argentina is, and that it doubtlessly deserves to be called a classic. The stages have absolutely everything to test the driver. I was struck by the low traction of that seemingly hard-packed surface.
You are very right. The era where we had 3 cars for most teams, Auriol, Burns, Gronholm, Makinen, Kankkunen, Sainz, Martin, Rovanpera, Panizzi and Delecour was magic! Never forget those times. @@QuickNickGT Hey mate, I was gonna take you for a wee ride here, but since you've been straight up I can only give you the courtesy of doing the same. Tommi and Colin were the two major rivals of that generation, fan banter comparing the two was just that, just like say, the Scuderia vs Merc or Red Bull, City vs Liverpool (I wouldn't consider United as rivals to City 😉😅). I was obviously a Tommi fan, hence my smart ass comment above. Truth is, both McRae and Makinen were astonishingly skilled drivers and both deserve a place in the WRC hall of fame, real fans respected them both as deserved. It's so sad that Colin only won one WRC title during his career. He would've deserved to win 9 titles not Loeb. McRae is the true Rally legend. RIP Colin
hexagon523 He couldve had he been more conservative with his driving. Then again its Mcrae we're all talking about. A man who doesn't know anything but flat out. That whats make him so unique and special.
Just because you like Colin doesn't mean you have to hit at Seb Loeb. Truth about Loeb is that he was so quick he could afford to be more cautious than others. And still be as quick if not quicker than them.
The wipers are activated by the co-driver as he knows when the water is coming via the notes. The foot rest in the cockpit has a button he activates with his foot to turn the wipers on and off. Therefore the driver can concentrate on the driving of the car. Our WRC cars are pretty high tech eh!
Funny how nobody didn't ask Colin to have a go on a Touring Car let alone a single seater...Clear that he was born to drive sideways in the mud and that there was no other category that fits his particular talent :)
(...) and then the cars -- those cars let the driver show so much skill, not like the later machines, which are faster, but that's mainly through finding every bit of straight-line traction and making the car handle in a rather dull way, on comparison. We can only be grateful that those great circumstances coincided, which made it possible for the genious of Colin and the true brilliance of such fames as Sainz, Makkinen, Auriol, Delecour, and many others, come through and shine.
Rally GB in the original Colin McRae Rally for the PS1 was a level I could never figure out. The wipers while steering would be quite the challenge, not to mention everything else he was capable of doing.. that just sort of struck me as something that'd be an unnatural feeling...
actually you can see that stick goes right to the column so he uses that instead of the paddle but it works the same, maybe he likes the feel of the lever but its the same. Some had a big ring around the back of the steering wheel to grab instead of paddles too
if I wanted to become a rally driver in the wrc or otherwise, as the rally of Brazil, how does it make? what it takes? I need a car or the car is the team ... ? thanks.
It shows how much skill you need as a rally driver. I mean the course is hard enough as it is and ther are even harder ones out there. But look at how much Colin has to do, he has to do every turn perfectly while fighting oversteer and understeer and because rally cars didnt have flappy paddle gearboxes then it was even harder (as he had only one hand to control the car alot of the time), as well as flick and push switches and buttons while going along for the windscreen wipers etc.
