In my situation, I was rock button and I really didn't have anything back in 2016. I couldn't find a job, I was sending a million applications and no luck whatsoever. My number one goal in my life was to get my education and 4 years later I was able to achieve no only my bachelors but also my masters information systems that I received July this year. We all know that Uber and Lyft is a rip off but base on the situation that I was involved, I was able to get back on my feet. I am forever grateful.

I think your attitude Luis Riba is wonderful. More people should have you appreciation you go back 10 years before Uber was a concept in anybody's mind what alternative to all these people have that are complaining about driving for Uber NOTHING! So they should be very happy that they have a vehicle no pun intended to have a casual coming in on a day by day week by week basis to tide one over until things get better instead of bellyaching about a situation that they voluntarily put themselves in. Now that doesn't mean Uber's hands are clean I think the biggest crime they did was lowering their rates from what they paid driver originally which is a ethical error to draw somebody into a business deal at a certain rate and to change it and make it lower is almost criminal but as long as a person hasn't invested in buying a new vehicle it's really no loss because you can get out anytime unless you missed out on a job opportunity then you didn't have when you joined Uber. There really is no job like it that you can pick your own hours and go on vacation when you want it's just a generation of whiners that is existing in the world today. Misery loves company and I won't accept their invitation!

It feels like a complete waste of time waiting for requests for two hours straight and I get nothing. However, every single day that I start “Ubering,” I seem to get a request within three minutes of being online but after I complete that delivery, I’ll be waiting for two whole hours before I get another request. I’m literally wasting my time and am thinking about making a civil case. It seems like this might be a “rigged” system already. I have noticed that the payout my look worth it but if you really look into the delivery and look into the miles, it really is not worth it. For example, going eight miles for a single delivery worth $10.50. Then I’ll sit in the middle of a restaurant hub for minutes upon minutes waiting for requests but actually won’t receive any requests unless I move about a mile away from the restaurant hub. (Restaurant hub: Sit in restaurants, fast food restaurants, bars, etc.). I expect to get feedback from this or I will be taking action a step further.
      Yea, thanks.

I am a traditional taxi driver. I make anywhere from $150 to $200 a night net (after gas, which we must buy) in a 12 hour shift. And I use a company vehicle which the company maintains. Does it need oil? The company supplies it. Does the car need a new battery? The company supplies it.
You Uber drivers are being ripped off. Become a traditional taxi driver. We too have the freedom to work when we want, and can use the company car as a personal vehicle within reason (most cities). I personally know of five traditional taxi drivers who went to Uber or Lyft or both who are now back to traditional taxi driving.

I agree with you on some points.
I was driving Uber and lyft for 2 year. In the tri state area.
Last year I made $80,000 with both platform.
People see that number and they Look automatically think its net.
Here is the reason why I stopped.
    1. Uber & Lyft where taken more than 60% on the short ride.
They send you to make a pick up that is 4 miles away. You get there it a short ride. You get $3.70 they get $6.00 rider payed $9.70. They are charging all these fees and reaping the rewards.
    2. Rider given you a low rating for a free ride.
    3. To many scammers.
    4. I hate the inconsistency one week you made $1500 the next week you cant even brake $500.
    5. Tolls are out of control.
Don't tell me the rider pay for it not true.
You give a ride from Newark Airport to Pennsylvania you get $50 $15 is toll.
You got payed $35 you think not bad $35 a hour Right? Wrong you need to come back home thats Another $15 in tolls you pay out of your pocket. So now your at $20. A hour now you can't work out of state you need to drive back you just lost a hour so that $50 went to $10 a hour for two hours.
Not included gas and mileage on your car.
Then you see that the rider payed $80. Makes you even more mad.
Make sense let me know what you think.
Just a few of my reason.

I agree, I did both Uber and Lyft full time for 3 months in 2016 and I was feeding my spreadsheet daily as I do with my other delivery business. Driving a Prius at the time, made my numbers OK but looking at the time spent, it did not look good at all, such a waste of life. It's not a career, it's something you do till you get a job. It helps paying bills in full and not carry balances to avoid paying fees and interest, that's about it.

After part-time driving Uber NY suburbs on my 2018 Civic EX-T, I figured out the best times to drive. I only pick up within 2 miles of my correct locations. I’m averaging 33.3 mpg which is great. The only bummer is I can’t pick up anyone in NYC so if I have to drop off anyone in Manhattan or other NYC boroughs, I have to drive back to the suburbs to pick up new passengers. I’m still I making over $1,000 a week full-time consistently

However, if you live outside the NYC jurisdiction, you’re out of luck.

I love driving for Uber. My own schedule and my own boss. I'm single so it's easier for me to drive whenever I want to.
Uber as a company isn't that great though. The driver app has technical flaws that Uber still hasn't fixed which I believe puts the lives of drivers in jeopardy.
That said, in Birmingham, Alabama I was averaging about $1100 weekly (pre-COVID) and that is plenty of money for me to live comfortably. And I live in a townhouse with two vehicles (Uber car is paid for). And last year I made over $75,000 (pre-tax) and got a fat tax refund check of $5200 after deductions and so forth.
It different for each driver depending on your situation. But to just say you shouldn't drive for Uber is being a little disingenuous. It's not for everyone but for others it's just fine.

I drove a cab in St. Louis for years, and this sounds like the kind of strategy I used. I was forced to quit because I went through a period of disastrous bad health for about five years. I decided not to go back because the cab rental was HUGE. I ended up spending Jaguar prices for ten year old, burned out police cars. If Uber doesn’t work out, though, I left the cab business with a pretty good record - fifteen years without a chargeable accident, and few customer complaints - and they’ve let me know via email that the company I worked for wants me back.

There are several universities and business parks in my city, so I can spend my rush hours getting trips to the airport (which happens to be a hub for all the airlines). My last comment Uber has been losing money for years they were counting on self driving cars which didn’t happen as fast as they thought but remember when they do you’re gone so Why Help them ultimately get rid of you get rid of them first don’t drive for them make them go out of business they will deactivate you for no reason I promise you

Dress up! People tip based on your demeanor and should never be based upon how u look. What world are you living in? How you treat people is key. So proper hospitality is thrown out the door. Oh I dressed nice so I dont have to greet and display the type of hospitality that’s appropriate. Do you get out of your car to accompany or aid one with there luggage? This man said “I dress nice so I get good tips.” May not have been word for word, but you alluded to that. Greeting them with thr highest respect. Taking bags from them as they approach your vehicle to help put in trunk and making feel comfortable is where you’ll get tips.

I am working on rideshare application ( riders app / drivers app) the drivers can use app for a very reasonable monthly or weekly fee.
Drivers doesn't need to pay ahead
Example if the weekly fee is $100
drivers can go online receive requests and get the total fare, drivers cannot cash out unless there earning balance is more than the weekly fee,

It was night time. Not much to see as far as how I was dressed. The interior of my vehicle is dark. Not much view. I most certainly didnt have a suit on or a button up shirt with trousers. I usually dress like Im going to the gym lol. After ordeal I got a 70 dolla tip. Seventy dollars for a tip. Young females in the “hood.” My car was clean. They told me how it smells nice. They flirted with me during the trip. I picked up people from mansions. Never ever have I gotten a “70 dolla tip” of one ride share. Im talking 3 days ago. It's probably not worth it if you think of the IRS tax deduction and I can only do Uber Eats because of the taxi being labeled and company policy but since I'm not deducting $0.58 a mile on the cab I'm at least making a little bit of money if I make $65 a day after fuel I'm happy
