Totally agree with you. This race and the participation of some African runners marks a new era for the sport. So good to see more nationalities participating. Amazing work, for example, from Octavio, working with the Kenyan Runners.

We are seeing a change in the sport that has been a long time coming. The East Africans will be dominating the mountain running scene very soon. This is not to say that they will be a force in the longer distance races such as 100 miler or longer. That is not their style and not at all a worth while event without the money incentive. Shorter distance mountain races will be impacted and we will see many course records fall as the East Africans begin to learn and perfect this sport.
@@ozsnowbum I do not have a clear answer to this question. The same could have been asked as to why it took them as long as it did to dominate the road marathon scene. I can say that we have seen the future of mountain running greatness. I'm excited to see these men and women stiffen up the competition.
@@minuteman2006 fortunately, we see now some european coaches going to African to train some of these athletes. This is also helping them. We totally agree with you in what regards having more nationalities competing. We need more diversity in our sport.
2nd tier east africans who know they can't compete with the 1st tiers on road might shift their attention to trails. less money, yes. but better than placing outside of top ten in road races
