DAMN that was a good race. Two amazing runners and GREAT sportsmanship from Justin while Scotty had his hardware problems. Can't believe it came down to 2.2 seconds difference. You'll get em next time Justin!!!

Absolutely insane race, very reminiscent of Super Metroid's AGDQ 2014 race that got me into this series ten years prior.
This is the game I want a camera pointed at their hands. As a casual player my fingers were constantly tied in knots simply trying to switch between/execute any of the skills/actions
…so we need a completely superfluous thing added into the last segment of the game. That way we can have a “save or kill” type of incentive.
I guess we could have bomb Kraid or not but that’s like 20 minutes in
Save the Gold/Skip the Gold - literally just whether or not you go for Gold Skip in the Raven Beak fight
This game kicked my ass, so its always fun to see people who are much more skilled than I am return the favor.
Yo, same. Took me a while to get used to the flow and develop proficiency with the controls. It is worth noting that both runners are playing on Rookie Mode, but that does nothing for the E.M.M.I pathing/behavior, afaik.

watching this made me miss Metroid Dread. i had to sell my copy when i couldn't afford rent lol. maybe i'll pick it up again sometime.
I assume they prepare the save files in advance to skip the opening cinematic. I really wish that was easier, I hate sitting through it every time I want a new run.
You can just have one save sitting there and copy it to start a new run.
Yeah, that's done for normal runs too, not just marathons. We do the same thing in the Super Metroid community. Basically, start a new save file, go through the cutscenes until you have control of Samus, then reset to the menu and copy that save file.
Save a new file that can start immediately in a slot and simply copy it over when you want to run

I was thinking this whole time that they're making it look so easy. I died 700 times or more on my last playthrough. Then I realized the last time I did a playthrough I was on dread mode. :D
This race was so fun to watch! I loved all the tricks they did. I'm not great at any of them, but I can pull some of them off.
I should be sleeping but this race was soooooo hype! Such raw skill and beautiful control! Just mind blowing! 🤯

I wonder…if you could somehow clip out of a zone after getting into super mode, could you kill a different EMMI than the intended one? Like you got the one for broken…but then took it into the magnet grip instead. Then you kill it, take the power, and then get the second core to instantly shoot and kill the 3rd one, etc etc.
You’d be constantly 1 ahead. And you could avoid 90% of the EMMI sequences by shooting them down in the first room. That would probably cut 30-ish minutes off a run.
You can, but only after exiting the CU room of the respective EMMI. For the old Unrestricted route we did "Omega Steal" on Ice EMMI to skip Ice Missiles, which subsequently let us escape the CU fight in Ferenia and defeat the Wave EMMI a bit earlier (but not by a lot)

EMMI are pretty harsh with their frame-perfect parry windows lol.
I've only managed those parries maybe ten times; out of getting spotted easily a hundred times. It's brutal, but it is nice that there's a faint glimmer of a chance.
Incredible race, and the commentary was top notch. I laughed everytime they asked "Is he a gamer?!?!" So funny haha

”Hundo”, used to refer to a Hundred. At your timestamp he says it as he gets confirmation that he’s collected a hundred %, but usually people say it when someone donates a hundred dollars (”a hundo”) 🙂
oh, way back in Super Metroid on the SNES, there was one boss that could be killed VERY easily with clever use of the Grapple Beam.

My favorite way to see Dragon go down is the Microwave Beam. Shoot it with plasma then turn on the X-Ray Scope as it hits and the hitbox doesn’t go away on the beam.
Am I the only one who noticed the sound icon during the first segments of the runs was always allocated to the wrong runner? After following GDQ for so long it's kind of throwing me off.
ngl, I'm kinda surprised morph ball bomb early isn't part of this run. Does it just not save as much time as I thought it would? Makes the Kraid fight a cake walk.
While Kraid is easier with bombs, it takes longer to get them.
Literally robbed by the controller. Lame. Race was REALLY starting to get good too. Too bad we'll never know
