I don't really watch your videos to learn about speaker theory and building (although I have learned a lot from them) , I watch them to relax (It's a stressful world) . That said , I really enjoyed how you answered the guys complaint about you using your videos to promote your kits by using his comment to promote your kits ! (BEAST) Have fun Kirby , and keep up the good work . 😁
I like the fact that your vids are as simple as they are. I come here for inspiration and creativity. Some other youtubers that you've partnered with at times are the places I go for in depth testing and knowledge about diy enclosures. I love the calm, laid back serene aspect of watching you build speakers. Even down to the lofi music. Keep up the great work, and don't feel pressured to change your style if it's not what you're going for, and not a style that you can really express yourself the way that you'd like. Your vids have a very specific quality that keeps me coming back time and time again. Thanks so much for what you do Kirby, and keep doing it.
Kirby! If people want to talk equations and parameters and theory, there are countless places on the internet to find all that information from experts and novices alike. I’ve been to them allllll. But this is the ONLY place I’ve found where the build process is so elegantly documented through well filmed, cleanly edited, and well balanced color ON THE INTERNET. Not to mention the woodworking skills add a lot of value. This isn’t a science Chanel, it’s a inspirational hobbyist doing what he enjoys. As someone who works in acoustic research of all people I should be annoyed by the inset speakers into baffle blah blah it’s a beautiful speaker, not a $20,000 engineering marvel. Keep it up!
Thanks Kirby! I think all your videos are great and it shows you put a lot of time into them I don't mind the plugs for your own work. Out of all the ways people monetise their time making TH-cam videos you have one of the most pure and honest ways which most of us appreciate. I've learned a ton from you and picked up plenty of inspiration. Keep doing you!
You don't have to apologize for your videos. Speaker box building is an art, and many here appreciate & enjoy your skills, presentation and knowledge. Thank you for all your time & effort in providing us with interesting ideas and builds.
Your response to the 'call out' was perfect. Some people just need a reason to challenge you because they have nothing better to do. They become popular by condemning others. You took that one in stride and I like that. Keep building speakers whatever you want to. I am glad you did this.
I love what you are doing and find your content calming and relaxing. I don't really care for professional critical listening, i want something that looks good and sounds good enough to support my cleaning, and your channel provides the content to make those speakers! Keep up your good work, you are awesome!
i love the fact you take on "hard questions" , your honesty is appreciated, your knowledge too.. on that part it's true we'd wish some "what/why/how" but hey, videos are free and you DID make instructionnal video before so don't take it too hard on yourself.
I have been with the channel for a while now and I can say I like both the walk through and in depth videos. Your ammo box build encouraged me to build my own and from there expand to new build plans and components. Thanks for the inspiration.
You answered the “called out” question in an eloquent way Kirby; the fun is in the design. Build the speakers the way you want, and enjoy doing it above all else.
Kirby, Love the Q&A format. I built your fawn kit this week, first time ever building a speaker. Thank you so much for making these kits available. Everyone loves it and I gladly accept all the compliments I get on the design and sound. (I did upgrade the amp board to the Dayton BT 4.0 board but that's just because I like to roam around with my phone and the BT 2.1 wasn't up to it.) Keep it up! Thanks again.
Love the vids , always have, whether they be the 100% informational ones, loved the series going over all the software and such, but also love just straight up build vids with just cutting, assembly and music. Super relaxing like Chris Salomone's videos.
Great vid, I did enjoy the Q&A so keep them coming. And I of course you should be promoting your kits in your channel, it makes so much sense, I can’t see why anyone would think that’s a negative. Keep the awesome vids coming, and thank you for putting great content out there.
Awesome video as always. It's an insight to your thoughts about what you do. Keep it up. Not every video is ment to teach but just to show. (All work and no play makes for a dull day)..... so keep being you and keep the videos as they come. Inspiration to anyone looking to be inspired.
Love your videos man, I like all types of speakers and speaker building videos, both for high quality speakers and design as well. Keep up doing those great videos!
In your defence, you've made vids that go into detail on crossover and box design - I don't expect you to repeat that with every build vid. Andrew Jones is probably the most accessible 'big name' speaker designer I can think of, but he doesnt bang on about a new speaker just to hear himself talk : there's a payday on the back of all those interviews. Keep em coming, Kirby.
Only recently found your channel. Great content and I have learnt so much about speaker design (crossover video was a great introduction). Speaking as a professional designer, you have a wonderful aesthetic style to your work and superb creative craftsmanship. Keep it up.
Hey Kirbdude, Your videos inspired me to get into speaker building again after many years! Thank you kindly, that made me happy :) I did Audio Engineering before I switched to computer graphics. Just did a conversion of an old pre-FM radio box into a 2.1 Bluetooth speaker. Made a tons of mistakes but managed to mitigate some of them and the speaker sounds quite nice but too directional in mids and highs. Outdoor listening in 30 degree field is quite alright and decently loud. I'm about to upload a video of my 16-month-old nephew dancing to some funk blasting from the speaker :)
Looking back on it, one of my two regrets in the DIY audio community is calling out Kirby in the comments on the Impulse video. The other is not building enough. At the time, I had a much more dogmatic approach to design and building. If you weren't building flat frequency, wide off axis response, low group delay, perfect impulse response speakers then why were you doing it? Since then, my ideology, and consequently my criticism, has loosened up and I'm more apt to appreciate what each designer brings to the table, both aesthetically and aurally. If you haven't heard Kirby's interview on the Make or Break Show, I'd highly recommend it. When he mentions the 80/20 rule in regards to speaker building, it's pretty relative to the few times I've done builds. Doing the basics of speaker building - building the right size box, fixing a speaker to the box - gets you 80% of the way there and the next 20% is an uphill climb. And despite any criticism I toss up, I've always super appreciated the videos and enjoyed them.
I like the Q&A video. I used a parts express kit to make a bluetooth speaker on my channel after watching your videos. Thanks for the inspiration to try it.
Your videos are great and very inspiring. Your personality comes across really well and shows off that sweet heart and desire to do more and better. Deffo a favourite channel.
Hi. Just wanted to say your great, thanks for the videos, don't let others discourage you in your video making. they are at least entertaining and helpful to me lol. :)
This isn't a channel about building a PC, and you aren't The Verge. (And yes, I can build a PC. 😏) Do what you do, we'll keep watching (and learning). 😌
We sometimes use Corian as a baffle. The epoxy should be fine but without check out if the speaker has a resonant frequency in the audible or near audible range it is not for certain. Harmonics could also effect this.
Hey Kirby, love the videos including the Q&A type. You definitely have woodworking talent. I would love to have the chance to design my own shop. Maybe a video on that? Still eagerly awaiting the super tower video(s).
Kirby, Love your channel. Just watched crossover building videos. You said you would cover phase later. Have you made that video? How do you keep your drivers in phase?
people use fiberglass for subwoofer enclosures all the time to get into custom shapes in car audio. it's fine as long as it is stiff enough, those thick front baffles would be way overkill so no way would your audio be effected.
A rear chamber and port can simulate the recess ed drivers in hornresponse . Use S and L inputs for the enclosure or even vice versa if sealed. There’s an upper band rising response if 2.0xpi with an excessive depth after 1.5-2” on these ‘full range’ 3-5” drivers. You don’t have a driver recessed so deeply and anyone with a comment should provide some info or testing (impulse did a good job of this with results ) to show otherwise.
A rear mounted tweeter could be compensated for by using a lower order crossover and/or allowing the tweeter to have a rising response - since a rear mounted tweeter will have a descending response.
Unfortunately the dispersion pattern and imaging is also affected but that's negligible in a Bluetooth speaker that's not for critical listening. Who cares about being correct all the time anyway to appease people . Build it how you want to build it. Eventually people will learn to respect the designer and appreciate all the work.
hey, i've built my first bookshelf speakers with 2 way passive crossover, its sound good, but at high volume, the speaker sounds a bit boxy, how can i improve the sound, i already have a damping material inside, but still sounds a bit boxy, and recently my subwoofer box just finished, its about 65lts or about 2.3 cf, and i'm using 10" subwoofer, although i can fit 12" subwoofer, probably gonna replace the sub to 12".... good video as always ♥♥♥
I've just found your channel and working my way through everything. Few questions .. Can you do a comparison from a build to off the shelf for price and performance. Also ever thought about a TV unit that could have a sound bar built in? Also when linking to prices can you link to stuff we can get in the UK
Yay ! Kirby met RGB . Is there a chance Kirby wiil one day meet surface exciters ? :) i'd be very curious what kind of result you would get, visualy and of course, ya know... the sound :)
I agree with what @Joe Koenig said... Speaker on the outside of the front-face or on the back-side of it, who cares... It doesn't change it that much and at 65 my ears don't care but my eyes do! ... LOL Keep Building!!!! :D

You are an audiophile - an artist - a craftsman - and an innovator - and I respect the fck out of you. You keep doing you and all the rest will naturally fall in place. Oh, and I just joined your Patreon. Glad the link was available. No rewards needed Kirby. I'm happy to have the opportunity to support your content and your journey to the mountaintop. Good looking out bro.
TotalBoat has sponsored a few channels, might be worth dropping them a line. I think they are interested in entering epoxy-related markets other than boat building. A couple TH-cam creators have had good luck using their resin for casting.
Not related to the video, but need advice. I have a friend who asked me to build him a bluetooth speaker with bells and whistles of bass and treble control for 70 USD. I said its very hard for me to meet that kind of budget with the specifications he wanted. Am I being unreasonable?

To be honest.. if you start explaining some more specs in your builds... It's not gonna be interesting... Coz I always enjoy the simple builds and the background music
in all fairness I don't think anybody would watch if you went so much into the depth because the video would be an hour long. if somebody is really interested in building something then they should look into the basics first. these videos are more like idea creators for people who already have an idea of what they want to do, if you're just getting into wood working and speaker designing then these projects are a little advanced for most beginners. for anybody else who wants to complain, I would try a car stereo boombox thing first.

You answered the “called out” question in an eloquent way Kirby; the fun is in the design. Build the speakers the way you want, and enjoy doing it above all else.

Thanks Kirby, I appreciate your explanation and acknowledgement.
I appreciated your comment! Thanks for caring enough to comment. I hope you check out my more in depth videos!
Really enjoyed the video; friendly and informative while staying true to what makes KMA, KMA. Keep up the good work!
Also, your videos were the kickstarter for my first few bookshelf/monitor builds.
In your defence, you've made vids that go into detail on crossover and box design - I don't expect you to repeat that with every build vid. My goal would be a very decent sounding speaker that has the looks to make them a conversation starter and I think that's where your builds shine.
Your videos are great and very inspiring. Your personality comes across really well and shows off that sweet heart and desire to do more and better. Deffo a favourite channel.
*someone complains that it looks like an add*
*Kirby uses the opportunity to make an add*
Loved the irony of that scene ^^
I thought it was funny as heck! 😂

Your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work brotha.
People need to realize that some people use youtube as extra income, come on guys and girls. Keep up the great work my guy.
Like it, but prefer short commentary with the build. Keep creating!
Kirby, Love your channel. Just watched crossover building videos. You said you would cover phase later. Have you made that video? How do you keep your drivers in phase?
I have a question. Is there a way to make your own Dolby atmos?
people use fiberglass for subwoofer enclosures all the time to get into custom shapes in car audio. it's fine as long as it is stiff enough, those thick front baffles would be way overkill so no way would your audio be effected.
Kirby just make videos we love your work this is not Burger king you cant have it your way.thats why its your channel and why we watch your work.

Do metal shavings go to a metal shop and I'm sure they will give you everything you need a cnc shop would be best.
Excellent ,your so nice ,good vid ,thks.
Thanks, Kirby! I wasn't expecting you to use my question. Are those wooden ear studs? If so, did you make them?
Thanks for all the comments, Mark! Yep! No, I didn't make these.
Love it!!!
Hey buddy!
Not related to the video, but need advice. I have a friend who asked me to build him a bluetooth speaker with bells and whistles of bass and treble control for 70 USD. I said its very hard for me to meet that kind of budget with the specifications he wanted. Am I being unreasonable?
If you check out Evan and Katelyn they make loads of resin stuff and they might give you some ideas on the best usage of resin and LEDs and the countless pigments you can apply to it
i watch these for ideas Not gospel Keep on keeping on Would like to see a bigger speaker kit and build.
I've seen that Impulse video on recessed baffles, and he expected to find a much greater issue than he actually measured. It is negligible impact for a MUCH more attractive speaker. I can see where some off axis response could be affected, but come on. Keep mixing beauty with sound and ignore the nit pickers
endall39 Exactly. 👍🏾
make a video : mistakes that beginers make while building first speaker
Love that video, love your channel and love that promo ;) keep it up!
hahaha Thanks!
I don’t want to be that guy, but what’s the name of the outro song
A lot of your videos are a certain sort of therapeutic so I never mind that you don't go TOO in-depth in the majority of the videos. You educate when you need to, but just let the content flow when it wants to breathe a little.
My speaker is not connecting to calling
Why shouldn’t your video be for selling your kits. It’s called promotion. And your videos are awesome keep it up .
I enjoy the speaker building porn, it's why I started watching. Relaxing to me, keep it up.
I've also learned alot too, especially about crossovers, and available equipment out there. Built some computer speakers from the knowledge learned from KMA.
If you built a motorcycle in 'the most efficient way possible' you would never use a hard tail frame,

The kits are too expensive
Да хорошая колонка. Хули тут говорить...
