    rvz.la/2U6yqBd
    The Shoei GT-Air II supersedes the stalwart GT-Air, and with the update comes better styling and features for today’s riders. Extensive wind tunnel testing at Shoei resulted in an extremely aerodynamic package that keeps forces acting on the head and neck to a minimum, partly due to a molded air spoiler. The GT-Air II packs a built-in QSV-2 sun shield, actuated by an accessible slider. Vents flow air where it’s needed, and the intake vents are designed to operate even with gloved hands. Additional features include Shoei’s E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System), micro ratchet chin-strap, Pinlock Anti-Fog Lens, and a DOT certification.
    Note: Due to manufacturer restrictions, Shoei products can only be shipped to addresses within the United States.

    The chin strap has moved forward. The chin and top vents have changed and are slightly larger. The sun visor now drops down further. Visor now has a 1 step cracked/city setting. Seemed to have missed a lot for a review...

    In my opinion, being forced to use a Sena system (and a proprietary one, at that), is a huge con for this helmet. I have a Packtalk Bold that I really love, so I just picked up the first gen GT-Air and I'm super happy with it.

I always wear my earplugs when riding and was really happy to find I didn't have to. Everyone in these comments crying about this helmet. I ACTUALLY bought it and I love it. Vents close and open and the sound is amazing. Comfort is also very good. The ratchet closure feels very secure and is harder to forget than a regular strap. The price is high but If you have the money I recommend this helmet highly. Ps. In the regular GT-Air you can use the Sena 10U and already has cutouts for the speakers like the GT-Air 2. So I would always recommend going for the GT-Air 1: better ventilation (active rear vent), also has the ratchet closing, comms ready and cheaper.

    Why passive vents though? The great thing about the gt air is that it flows massive amounts of air. So during summer time it cools down your head but when you leave the vents open in winter its seriously cold. The closeable vents on the original gt air worked great. Felt like it completely blocked all the air in the closed position but now you are forced to ride with a brain freeze on the gt air 2. The best way to go is to get the original gt air for a nice price.

      If you need an internal sun visor and really like the Shoei quality, then I would honestly stick with the GT-Air II. There are more affordable helmets like the Scorpion EXO-ST1400 and HJC RPHA 70 ST that are almost as good as the Shoei and are much easier for mounting a communicator. If you don't need an internal sun visor but don't want to swap visors all the time, then consider a Shoei RF-1200 or RF-SR along with the Shoei Photochromic (Transitions) Face Shield or an Arai DT-X/Quantum-X/Signet-X with the Arai VAS-V Pro Shade external visor system. The DT-X with Pro-Shade is a great deal right now. -DrewZilla

    I was initially excited for the II version, however I think I'll stick to the RF-1200 and hope for a new version of that one instead. The Air II keeps the same huge shape of Air I, and ads a MAJOR con - locked into a single com system. I have Cardo Packtalk Bold, a far superior sounding com to any Sena, and it automatically disqualifies Air II from contention. I hope it doesn't sell well so that Shoei can go back to making universal helmets.

And I am going to use cardo packtalk for us. I would stick to Air 1 for us as the sounding of cardo comm superior to sena unit and Air 1 fits cardo installment. The AIR 2 does not. @@Orban_Ridesyeah I’ve seen those videos, and Champion puts a lot of videos up too. Just speaking with the helmet designers; wind noise has more to do with the rider’s body and bike Aero than anything they can control with the helmet. Schuberths a great example since they are the only ones claiming dB levels - they have a huge * next to the claims that it was on their bike with their rider of X height etc. Perfect example are why every review of a helmet is different between quietest and loudest etc, bc most riders don’t know it has more to do with their bike and them. $10 at a pharmacy for 100 pack of ear plugs is still the easiest way to make every helmet the quietest IMO though. But hey, from one test rider to another 🤙

    I want a quiet helmet from wind noise not bothered about cons , can you recommend one ? 👍

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really, because wind-noise has more to do with your bike's aero, riding position, arm length, etc all factor into where the helmet sits in the wind while you're riding. If quiet is the only feature you are looking for, $5-$10 at your local pharmacy for ear plugs will make every helmet just as quiet as the next. So grab those ear plugs and then find the helmet that suits you in every other category for your riding. Hope that helps!

    I only recently "upgraded" from the GT Air to the GT Air 2 after 6 years of riding in it. What an absolute disappointment. The top vent might as well not be there for the amount of air it flows - cannot feel anything. Using the vent on the GT Air and I can feel a noticable cooling effect along the top of my head. And I'm not sure what they've done to the aero, but they've managed to spend 6 years of R&D and make it worse. I get this unbearbable low-ish rumbling/rustling sound as the air passes underneath the helmet and makes its way past the chin strap and around my ears. Yes, it is fitted correctly. I've even bought the larger 39mm cheek pads to get the fit even more spot on. I'm trying to return it as defective, or else sell it. Absolutely gutted after spending more than $1400 AUD on it plus the Sena SRL2. Managed to find a last remaining original GT Air from Europe which I have ordered, and cannot wait to get it! Shoei better listen to it's customers for the GT Air 3!

    Bad move on shoei making a helmet that only accepts 1 com unit. I have The GTair1 and love it but no way in hell would I buy a helmet that I couldn't just swap out the sena I already have or limited me to only one option if I decided to upgrade coms also.

  • @NicklasAittamaa

    Why are you talking about the integrated sena system as if the gt air 1 didn't have one? The gt air also has a sena system built specifically for it, and it fits completely invisible from the outside, without those bulks on the outside of the helmet, which makes me confused to why the new SRL system would require them?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly the reason we decided to call this feature out. Shoei has partnered with Sena in the past and done integrated comm units better, but in their latest models they add plastic to the outside and limit riders from using their own third party comms. I watch a lot of RevZilla videos and this one was bad. All helmet vents passive. The ability to close the vent doesn't make it active; a fan would make it active. That's not where the speaker pockets go... That's where the pockets are. Other than the Sena system, you failed to mention the other differences from the first gen... Like the sun visor now goes down farther, and the chin strap was moved forward.

    Got this in today and was a little disappointed. I really wanted to like it! It's a Shoei for Pete's sake! This was my 1st big budget Lid. I'm comparing it to my 11 year old Exo 500, which felt wonderful right off the shelf. 11 years later still feels great! Love the styling of the GT Air, but when I put it on, it felt cheap and not as well made as my EXO-500. It felt a little loose although it is the correct size. The padding in the crown area was pretty thin compared to my EXO-500. Even the cheek pads were not as snug as I expected. For additional comparison, I popped on my even cheaper EXO-400 and that felt better than the GT-Air. I didn't even put it on the road. After an hour of trying to talk myself into liking it because it's supposedly a better bran, I boxed it up and shipped it back. :-/ . Maybe it's just how brands fit difference heads I guess. I've got a EXO R1 Carb coming in.. Will see how that fits.. Sticking with Scorpion for now.

    Very underwhelming. Doesn't look as good as the original, which had a nice tapered / spoilered design, a nice sporty look for a GT helmet. The new one is just rounded off to the back and has odd lines over the top (probably something aero but looks over-designed). The whole Sena thing adds no value to people who use the superior Cardo systems, and even if you want to go Sena having a unit you can switch between multiple helmets has value in itself (vs fully integrated). The sun visor and strap on the old were perfect, so that's no improvement. Recent European GT Airs already had the ratchet. Oh, and it's heavier... well, there's always hoping it will actually get a decent side impact score on the SHARP test this time?

  • @allwheeldrive

    Have had the II for several weeks now. Really like it. Very comfortable, quiet, good ventilation. The DOT-only cert is a bit of a puzzle. It's not because of the drop-down sun shield. I also have a super-value Bilt Power Modular (Cycle Gear-only), and it's not only modular, is a little lighter, also has the drop-down sun shield (which actually drops down to a more effective level), and only cost $120, but it's got DOT and ECE. What gives? The ~$500 difference between the two can't be fully justified, specially because of the commitment you have to make with the comms hardware (pay more and get less choice?). However, the materials on the II are better, the fit is better overall and it's noticeably quieter. I grab the Shoei more often, but don't have a problem with the Bilt at all. The Air-II is a really nice bucket if you have the cash. Otherwise, run down to Cycle Gear for the Bilt Power Modular.

    JUST came from a Sunday morning drive, checking out the many flea markets people are having in their driveways.
    This one woman had a lot of "man stuff" for sale. She said her husband died, so she was getting rid of things she will never use. I spotted a white Shoei box on the shelf in the back of the garage and asked her if she drove a motorcycle, she said no, and then said that helmet back there was for her, but she refused to get on her husband's bike because he drove too fast. I asked if I could take a look at the helmet, but she said, right away, that she was going to give that helmet to the Salvation Army because it's worthless since it's almost 10 years old and nobody wants a 10-year-old helmet.
    I pulled the Shoei box down and was surprised that it has never been opened. On the side it said GT-AIR- Large. I opened it and was blown away because it was white, and blue, with red accents, the EXACT same colors as my 1999 Suzuki GSXR-750 and I also have 2 matching Tecnics racing suits, one full suit with perforations and the other 2 peice for colder riding, both with white, blue and red accents, racing gloves are color matched, racing boots are also color matched...I'm 63 years old and really enjoy the look of everything color matched, but I own a GREY Shoei helmet that is so old, the padding is breaking down, but it's so dam comfortable, I just don't want to give it up.
    Here's the good part, she thinks that the Salvation Army will put a price tag of 50 dollars on it, so she said I could have it for 50 dollars BUT I also had to drive to the coffee shop and bring her back a large double double … Haha.... I DID bring her a coffee, by the way.
    Everything was in the box of course, the silicone gel, the manual, the PINLOCK antifog shield, the chin air blocker, the antifog attachment that goes below the visor on the inside.

Do you really think a Shoei helmet is less quality than a snell approved one just because snell refuses to put their stamp on it. ?Shoei is quality, prob better than what you have with ur snell rated helmet.

      if it wasnt for the visor it would be snell....so it is basically a snell but with a visor so it cant be snell...

    jeez that cheap ass ratchet system is horrid. a D ring works and is infinite adjustable, ratchets must sit in a certain position.

      FWIW: Shoei does change helmets based on which market they are heading to, hence why we say the American market since we are a US retailer selling the DOT models of this GT-Air II. They will change the features, fit etc to match the country that it is shipping to and the characteristics / features for those customers.
