- Cooking with my nephew Luca: LYONERKUCHEN - echt saarländisch!// Happy Tuesday everyone, Are you looking for a delicious and authentic 'saarländisch' dish? Look no further than Lyonerkuchen! In today's video my nephew and Jörg's godson Luca and I are making this savory sausage cake from scratch, we're taking you shopping with us and are preparing Lyonerkuchen and lamb's lettuce in Luca's lovely flat in Saarland, Germany. RECIPE LYONERKUCHEN:
Ingredients
500g Lyoner
puff pastry (we used gluten free one)
1 onion
1 leek
100g bacon
4 eggs
250ml cream
150g grated cheese like gouda
rapeseed oil
salt
pepper
nutmeg
paprika
Method
Slice the onion and the leek.
Cut the Lyoner in about 1cm thick cubes. Fry the Lyoner and the bacon, add the onion and leek. Then put aside and let it cool down.
Whisk eggs and cream and add the Lyoner-onion mixture. Finally season with salt, pepper, nutmeg and paprika. Finally add the grated cheese.
Grease a springform and put some baking paper on top. Add all of the mixture into the springform and put into the oven for about 40-45 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
SALAT DRESSING:
Ingredients
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey
5 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
4 tablespoons olive oil
salt
Mix everything together and pour over salad.

In USA we call this a quiche. Eggs cream and a pastry base adding in whatever we like. I use spinach eggs salt pepper onion and swiss cheese. So good, yours looks so yummy as well!
Yes, this is very similar to Quiche Lorraine - the French dish - apart from the puff pastry, as QL is made with shortcrust, generally.
Luca is the younger version of Joerg. I initially thought Luca is his relative.

I do remember your nephew! That pink cottage video was the first video I ever watched! I became an immediate fan of your channel and have been watching it ever since! Hello, I have to say Ur sister and her husband did a wonderful job raising that young man. Kirsten how do u manage to speak English with no hint of Ur German coming through. When u speak English, u sound like an English person. x
I know it took me ages to figure out Kirsten was German.
Kirsten has said in the past that she spent many years in Egypt, growing up as her parents worked there. She mixed with the ex-pat community and that is why her English is so good. She may even have gone to an International school there but she'll correct me if I'm wrong!
