Whatever you do, do NOT EVER use aluminum around lye! Puts off H² gas, very explosive, flammable, exceedingly unpopular with first responders..... Just ask the Modern Rogue....(video: how todissolve a body in lye, IIRC)
Probably best to use a s/steel container as when adding water to the caustic will produce a lot of heat, which may melt plastics.... Pretty cool stuff Chris, thanks for the video 👍🤓✌️
Useful, it makes sense that heatin g it would speed up the reaction but also raises the cost of doing it, so making a strong solutionand leaving it to make us all feel impatient is a brilliant money saver. Thanks for sharing
Hi Chris, love your videos. One suggestion is that the rock would be better submerged in the caustic soda solution. And probably best to stay away from the plastic stuff.
Just be careful as the gas given off by caustic is hydrogen gas. Its probably not a problem in the small amounts you used here, but if someone scales it up things can get loud 🤣 You can also run power through it, using a car battery or a transformer putting one side to the tank, and the other through your stone. It works a lot quicker
Probably a good idea to add a safety warning; Caustic soda will destroy skin and eyes just as easily, wear gloves, wear eye protection and don't do this in glass or aluminium containers

LOL yeah, I was given a stainless steel pan which I used to make soap. Turns out it wasn't steel but aluminium. The reaction was pretty intense.
I just bet! Wowch, glad you are t reporting injuries from it.

Ooooooh BUDDY! I’m gonna go dissolve some rocks in my garage right now! 😀😀
Hopefully there’s some gold in my rocks….doubtful. Still, should be fun.. 😉
Thanks for sharing Chris.

Alum powder will dissolve the steel as well used it to melt studs out of an aluminum head before

Crazy the rock literally melted 😱
Always add caustic to water, not water to caustic. If it is a more confined vessel there is potential for explosion.
Chris,Your vlogs are 👍
Cool stuff, heat increases the reactivity but heat don’t come free!
it can depends on the method you use
Keep it up! Loving the content.
Thanks Chris, I got caustic soda & caustic acid & stuff...guess it's time to experiment
If nothing else, I gots 10 years of laundry detergent
You turned that rock into a gummy bear 🐻

Other people can read the big red warning on the label as well as me
Cool. Hungry stuff 😁👍
What about doing it in a rock tumbler
Missing your longer vids
I hope you covered it up, to prevent birds, cats and whatever from coming in contact with it
🤔😅
As I am not a very keen person I would just boil the rock lol & did you find any gold??
That was funny
What is a safe container to use caustic soda
Small amounts, s/steel or thermoset plastic.
129👍's up VGP thank you for sharing 😊
Would hydrogen peroxide do the same
yeah but can it ckean the dishes
Use porcelain...no metal...ever
