Performante was 6 seconds faster on the Nordschleife and the reviewed Performante had not only power issues, they weren't able to do more laps because the car was too loud and the track officials banned it from the Nordschleife. 😂 They equipped the 720S with Trofeo R (same as Performante) but the track time was even worse than with the stock Corsa. McLaren blamed this on a "bad" batch of Trofeo R. 😛 The 720S is the perfect Autobahn car but no track monster. The 600LT or the upcoming 750 or 770LT may be the better track choice.

Lots of electrical gremlins in the 12c but they seem tohave got less and less each version (and the info screen lag seems better if not perfect. Still seem to have random broken windows which has not been solved

There's a guy who runs his stock 720S at our local Autocross (Rocky Mountain SCCA) and usually takes FTD (fastest time of the day), even against purpose built race cars. The thing is just too good!
I drove a GT3RS, 488, Performante, and 720S all on the same day on track a couple weeks ago. I’m not a good driver but the 720S was so noticeably faster down the straight it was absurd, it was actually a bit scary.

Under promise and over deliver, hardly call it ‘botching’ could you imagine the complaints if it made an actual 720 at the fly and only made ~600 at the wheels., Australian dyno are considered more realistic, so prob would made 50whp less. But either way, I wouldn’t be complaining about more than rated horses.

James Hunt do you know much about this dyno stuff, I have a relative who I tell him that I think these cars are underrated and he says that the manufacturer never does that and they they know the exact power that comes out the car. Who’s right?
Devastater ZX McLaren have a very long history over different models of under rating power outputs. It’s been speculated many times before they quote worst power figures on poor fuel etc. One thing we do know is huge numbers of McLaren’s have dyno’d all over the world and made much more power than they were supposed too.

Not all, but many manufacturers have done this over the years, including Japanese in the 90's during the 280hp gentlemans agreement limiting power. Toyota and Nissan Cars have been dynoed to make 30-40 more HP than advertised.

goodfella21f the 720s has never done an official run at the ring in keeping McLaren’s policy of not publishing times there. Although an unofficial car ran 7.07 there recently (not on the sticky but road legal trefellos) so it’s fair to say it could easily do it if they were so inclined.

Hey bro, I would agree with you on every point you make about the McLaren 720s. I least one last summer, yes the software for the 2018 model was glitchy and I did have a few issues with it. Other than that it was unbelievable!! I have just ordered the 2019 spider, it has brand-new software and I have been assured by McLaren that the glitchy nature has been resolved, they’ve also made a few other changes that will help improve the cars reliability and dependability long-term, I did add the 10 year warranty just in case. Should have delivery in approximately four weeks. Juvenile diabetes is an absolutely amazing cars to get behind and support, I support children’s hospital who has a cutting edge diabetes clinic that help improve the lives of the youth that suffer with this life changing and life-threatening ailment.

I'd be curious to see how this stacks up against a 962 on a track. The 720S is so quick that I wonder how far back you'd have to go before it would be competitive at Le Mans. Sure, a P1 is quicker, but this isn't some crazy hypercar, it's a regular production model.
The 720S doesn't have the 800+HP that people think it does. it was dyno tested by a German magazine and found to have 745/750HP at the crank and weighs just 3150-ish lbs. The massive drivetrain losses are a thing of the past. Aero, transmission, power delivery and its low weight play a huge part in how well the 720S performs.
It does have great power to weight ratio, but Pretty much everyone knows the 720s is pushing out more than 800hp @ the crank, with around 715whp , lmao McLaren underrates it
To everyone who is saying how quickly he passed the performante, I am pretty sure that the other driver lifted, because these are expensive cars at charity event and no one wants to stuff them, so they don't push them hard against the other cars on the track. It's just an HPDE
American race tracks seemingly have the complete opposite rules to UK race tracks where you've got to be fully clothed i.e long sleeves and pants & windows must be closed. Madness. Track looks awesome fun, I don't think we have a race track (not including Millbrook) in the UK with enough room for a road car to do over 175mph!

Fantastic standard car and a 720S is ballistically FASTbut I much rather have a LIMITED 1 of 500 675LT which is a very special car and gives you a far more raw experience, sound, sense of fun and enjoyment

MrY Nurburgring isn’t a race track like other tracks. Because it’s a road, it has its own rules. Every track in the US has its own rules for this. Some are fine with windows up. Some are not. Either way, Track time is very expensive and so when someone donates it to us, it’s very important to follow their guidelines
Afaik no European tracks require windows down. The ring follows standard road rules with one exception I can think of - they don't like detachable steering wheels.

720S must be one of the greatest supercars released in the last 20 year or so, other than the manual CGT.

mk km so the crew won’t have to smash them themselves to get you out if you have a crash.
In case of a wreck easier access and less danger for both the driver and the emergency crew if you have to be pulled from the car.

Matt is a great driver, but these onboards do what he's doing no justice. I took at Australian V8 Supercar to the track a few years back and the footage I took was so underwhelming.
