The Leviathan Event. That one takes the cake. I do not mean it's sudden jaw attack and escape that you see in this video. There is an event, where it's entire body will wreathe around the surface. It is Dredges biggest enemy event. That was true panic.
Huh, that's kinda strange. I didn't encounter it organically in my playthrough. The only time I saw it was when I was testing what happens when you try to go beyond the bounds of the map. It pops up briefly, dives, resurfaces and destroys your vessel.

You will see the leviathans entire body surface all over the screen at different points in the ocean, it is elongated like a snake. The panic meter shot up like never before.
As a person who has the game yes it’s scared me a LOT especially those Leviathan encounters. I had the worst of it when i literally went for a treasure chest in Stellar Basin and the bloody camera panning around at the EXACT MOMENT I saw it’s SPINE just heading towards my boat made me panic so badly though I wished I had that moment recorded for everyone to laugh at
Wanna hear something embarrassing..... I was doing some fishing near the light house and I could hear it's roar, then saw it's spine behind the rock's and I tried to get away but crashed into an island 😭 then used that teleportation magic😅

i played the whole game and didn´t get the Leviathan. But I remember in the centre hole when a giant tentacle scared the hell outta me while contemplating how amazing it looked at night, I screamed and left as soon as I could
Bro, 100% this. Most of the bosses didn’t bother me TOO much, but that giant tentacle shooting out of the water completely freaked me out, especially when I looked down into the water to see what it was. After seeing the Leviathan, im definitely not finishing the game.
That's pretty strange. I saw it the first time i went into the open sea. I thought that was a scripted event. Or maybe different updates had different percentages of likelihood of it appearing. Oh and i think it's been said it's guaranteed to spawn once if your Panic is high enough (so got to think about it, that one definitely was scripted), that might be why you haven't seen it yet, there's also an event where it just eats you even without going out of bounds.
Going into this game blind, & having a deep, deep fear of stuff like this; it wasn’t TOO bad, but god damn it’ll have you unnerved. Especially the boat. Just the noise it makes as it starts heading towards you, & the darkness making your screen whisper, & odd things start showing up, it’s terrifying.
Best part is that you can blow your horn at it while it is at a distance, and it will answer with its own horn. That is how it got me thinking its another ship so i went to it to check it out. Needles to say, pants were soiled when i got close.
I think I might have thalassophobia since stuff like this is one of my worst fears. I feel genuinely terrified when I see large bodies of water all around me with no land to retreat into, my brain keeps imagining something huge swimming out of the depths at any second and consuming me. Tried playing this game some time ago and I just couldn't bring myself to leave the starting island 😭

personally i found that i basically avoided almost every enemy just from the fact i rarely went out at night and always remembered to rest, the only enemies i really encountered was the scripted encounters that you have to do, just trust the villagers bro 💀 (edit: didn’t realise this comment got decently popular, WHOS EXCITED FOR THE DLC HELL YEA)

@@wufflemuffin9197 yea i had to do those, but some of them are optional side quests you don’t have to do them to complete the story, for example the one where you gotta give the lady in gale cliffs a rotten eel, i found that because i played it pretty safe at night (stay close to a dock) i didn’t run into much more than the red mist or the night angler, and i didn’t even get attacked by him till the end game, i had to practically force a leviathan encounter by going out of bounds 💀

You’ll eventually run into it. It spawns randomly around the map every 45 minutes and you’ll hear it’s roar loudly if you’re too far away from it when it spawns and it’ll become very obvious when it spawns near you
SCP-3000 "Anantasesha" would be a fun little easter egg to add to the game. They could make it so that when it pops out of the water, the ship will slowly be drawn towards it and the player has to force it away manually.
Howso? The ocean by itself is scary but the ElDriCh hoRRoRs of the ocean seem overblown. Even the imagination defying horrors like siphonophores are just idiots floating around with barely an awareness of our presence and scale of power. We're the eldritch horrors.
That moment when you're just peacefully fishing, then the fog rolls in and suddenly your boat starts making noises it definitely shouldn't... pure panic mode!
Something fun about it is that you can play the game without having to go through the scary Parts like this, I am a wimp I mean Animal Crossing scorpions startle me kind of wimpy and I was able to do quite a bit of playthrough while turning off the mode that enables these monsters

This is exactly what my mind experiences when I enter large bodies of water in which I can not see the bottom. The idea that just below my feet, in the darkness, sits a creature too foul to describe waiting to grab me.
I always love the idea of a giant sea monster popping up to kill you when you venture too far out in the ocean in games and this seems to encapsulate that same idea
As someone who’s deeply scared of the ocean, sea, literally any other deep waters… this game gives me the absolute creeps. I can never play it alone. But it’s such an amazing game!!!
When I played this, I didn’t know anything about it, but I accidentally figured out the floodlight mechanics and got the good ending right off the bat. My reasoning was that if the hiker was being stalked by something, a quick flash would be enough for the hiker to orient himself, but not enough to pinpoint my location. Same with the entity. He might know the direction, but not my exact location. It was pure and simple dumb luck that I made the right choices, because I thought maybe the hiker could hide in the mines and get out of the open, and I didn’t want him coming towards my lights if I was also drawing the entity towards me to keep it away from him. Great game, overall.
I've never personally played this game, but I've seen other people do it, and honestly the creepiest part about the anglerfish boat is the sounds it makes it's similar to the sounds of the tripods in War of Worlds to me, like it's so ominous but so cool at the same time
My favorite take on this game comes from Yahtzee, the man who hosts Fully Ramblomatic. He says the biggest horror of this game is realizing that the horrors are becoming normal to you. You're a part of this world now, forever changed.
They did the leviathan really well. I played the game. I went to the edge of the map before yet I still twitched when I saw him eat the boat in this short.
I really enjoyed dredge. The bad ending was beautiful and sad at the same time. I want a dredge sequel that allows the player to pilot the boat from inside the cabin, with more eldritch horror elements.

Yea but aren't there a bunch of quests that require you to catch fishes that only comes out during night time

It mostly acts as a "keep you in the borders" type enemy.
Meaning it's entirely possible to miss the thing until you get to the good ending
sometimes it appears under you, Ive met it 2 times if I dont count those times when I tried to leave the map xd

straight up turned my monitors off and walked away when i noticed the leviathan

Jay, please play Dredge! It's a sea type of game where you're on a boat mavigating the sea but there are countless scary sea monsters after you.
considering there's a chance that the leviathan would just eat you anywhere deep enough when you're panicked kept me tense even in daytime
When I played this, I didn’t know anything about it, but I accidentally figured out the floodlight mechanics and got the good ending right off the bat. My reasoning was that if the hiker was being stalked by something, a quick flash would be enough for the hiker to orient himself, but not enough to pinpoint my location. Same with the entity. He might know the direction, but not my exact location. It was pure and simple dumb luck that I made the right choices, because I thought maybe the hiker could hide in the mines and get out of the open, and I didn’t want him coming towards my lights if I was also drawing the entity towards me to keep it away from him. Great game, overall.
The night angler really got me the first time I ran into it. Saw a cute little boat and went over to say hi lol

I remember honking my horn at night thinking it was honking back because it was a night trader with cute mechanics, never trusting a game again😭😂
I've never personally played this game, but I've seen other people do it, and honestly the creepiest part about the anglerfish boat is the sounds it makes
it's similar to the sounds of the tripods in War of Worlds to me, like it's so ominous but so cool at the same time
My favorite take on this game comes from Yahtzee, the man who hosts Fully Ramblomatic. He says the biggest horror of this game is realizing that the horrors are becoming normal to you. You're a part of this world now, forever changed.

They did the leviathan really well. I played the game. I went to the edge of the map before yet I still twitched when I saw him eat the boat in this short.
Man, could you imagine if they made a game like this, but co-op and in first person?
Such an unexpectedly good game a true hidden gem for all ocean lovers and horror lovers

My more horrifying experience with this is the Ghost Shark that haunts you till you die. Absolutely filled with nightmare fuel.
I really enjoyed dredge. The bad ending was beautiful and sad at the same time. I want a dredge sequel that allows the player to pilot the boat from inside the cabin, with more eldritch horror elements.
In fact: the Leviathan is the hero of the story.
It maintains the horrors of the sea there
its giving me the classic big ol' bass 2 vibe when I catch a T-rex and other reptile type fish on the sea

For me one of the biggest discoveries was that if you turn off lights during night, it will actually become easier

My fear of gigantic ocean creatures started from jack and daxter and seeing this game triggers that memory.
So glad I play this on passive mode and then watch the scary bits on here 😆
