Gotta admit Rubio has balls to stand in a room, surrounded by thousands of people who despise him and everything he stands for, without any allies. It shows he is willing to essentially be crucified for the sake of trying to establish conversation.
VERY few human beings have the courage to do something like that, and I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for him.

Did I go down the rabbit hole? Why are they shouting down the VALID point that major mental health red flags were IGNORED?! You can't keep firearms away from every psychopath but a lot could have been done to address this particular gunman.

Ev Ye one of the survivors in another interview said "we weren't surprised when where TOLD who the shooter was. Not at all" that just means the expected it and didn't do a damn thing. I don't think the problem is one specific thing, it's a little bit of everything. It's not black or white, or red or blue. It's an array of colors and there is so much more to the story and the problem. It can't be solved with yes or no answers. And it kept pissing me off that the crowd was shouting things and wouldn't let them finish, and I understand the victims are upset but they need to let them answer or they will accomplish nothing. I have so much respect for Rubio because he didn't start yelling and throwing a fit when people wouldn't listen to him. And the guy in the middle, he was dodging every question and kept answering with "let's just get the guns off the street" even if it had nothing to do with the question. At least the other two actually answered (or attempted)

That is in large degree down to the debate not ebing about the attributes of the gun, how to prevent ILLEGAL guns, how to prevent criminals from getting guns.
When the aargument is to ban assault weapons and then giving the reason that a non assult weapon is used or looks a certain way?
Are all subaru Impreza rally cars, or ar ONLY rally cars, made for Rally actually rally cars, should we than ban a car for LOOKING like one?
What is worse, being shot by a 5 round revolver or a 15 round semi automatic, you are just as dead, and I am sure your family is just as sad.
As to a school shooting, the shooter is determined, this means that if he has o gun at home he goes and gets a gun illegally, now how does making a law so that prevents a shooter from having a gun at home prevent hime from getting one illegally.
Scenario: I have been having thoughts of shooting up my school, I am determined, BUT there is LAW out there preventing me from having a gun at my home?
Does this prevent me from going to shchool and shoot everyone? No in no way does it prevent this.
Since I am determined I now seek out criminal elements and buy a gun. I then take the gun to school and shoot people.
The solution: is to really not solve the problem, by demanding a law that serves no purpose.
After all bank robbery is illegal................do people rob banks? But how can they it is illegal?
Crminals do not care about the law, ergo making a gun law will not in any way prevent people from getting an illagal gun.
Also by the argument that becuse someone used a legal gun to kill a dozen kiids, this was BAD, but the same argument will then by default also say that had he brought an illegal gun and killed the same dozen then everthing is ok, after all it was not a LEGAL gun, and maybe it didn't "look" a certain way

So that very fact shows that Rubio can do more to represent Florida so to say he can't do much is nonsense and the fact he take the NRA's money makes him look even worse. Especially at this town hall with the words coming out of his mouth.

Its amazing how easy it is to make people tools of idiocy and theft of public life and wealth. You parrot what your masters say because you think it's the smart or right thing to say. My NRA book describes taking cover. Not running into a gun fight with a pistol against an AR. When you see events on TV or in the street this has always been how law enforcement has handled these situations and still is. Pure hero fantasies to expect otherwise. More lives will be lost and teachers will be targets, have to leave their kids to go get shot instead of locking doors, and the kids wont be able to get near teachers because the teachers, all of them regardless of concealed weapons or not, will be potential
perceived threats by the shooter. Thank you to Trump for saying that teachers are going to shoot the hell out of them. Trump slaps a bullseye on their back gives them a p shooter and says go get'em while saying we can save money on security. Trump is a sociopathic ventriloquist dummy for the NRA. 700,000 more teachers with guns in schools is the plan he is promoting. He talks like a common person but I really hoped for a smart president.. Are we going to start ridiculing and firing teachers who don't run fast enough to their likely death with a handgun against an AR? They will be the new targets to blame when children die an expected to engage even while officers are trained not to. Officers shoot unarmed compliant people very quickly at one end of the spectrum and there are heroes like you want them all to be but that isn't their training. If you want guns pulled from anyone who has a complaint made about them or seems a little off, lets get that into law and start ripping back some of these 300 million guns out there. I am sure law enforcement would love to make the streets safer for themselves.

    • @shp3270
      @shp3270 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn't see a solution in what anything you said. Just a giant list of improbable things that have to all go right to get to your fantasy ending after kids have been shot. Schools have long open hallways that are easy for a shooter with a rifle to control despite the imagined perfect response scenario. Nobody has said what teachers will be expected to do specifically yet but Trump said they would save money on security so that sounds a lot like running towards the gunman. Going into the school for LEO's isn't as simple as get 'em and they are too late to get there anyway. Plenty of other ways to set schools up to lock down a shooter, protect students, evacuate students. locking doors, corridors, safe rooms, patents for desks with armor. Im not suggesting a huddling mass of unprotected children. Non lethal weapons distractions. smoke. Use you brain you seem to have one but you have to put that peanut to some wider thought than a hero with a gun fantasy. And just so we're even, Moron. lol

    • @shp3270

You say government "FAILED" then go on to excuse the people running the government from responsibility. How does your brain work like that? There is no hope if the people in charge don't believe in government or that they have no responsibility. The groups you've named and Trump are in charge and refer to half of Americans as enemies ( Trump, the NRA, the 2nd Amendment, Conservatives, Constitutionalists, Christians, patriots, guns nor their accessories,) but they aren't responsible for failures you say? Leaders in power who only blame other people and more than half the country is weak. Patriots don't call half the country enemies. I have saved all kinds of people and I don't care who they are. You can't even have a conversation without hate, blame, and lies spilling out to maintain your perfect irresponsible stance. The NRA had congress remove the law in 2017 that required the SSA to report to NICS people so severely mentally disabled that they couldn't manage their own social security checks. The NRA and therefore its GOP talking parrots do not want the things you say they do. Hipaa does not get in the way of mandated reporting of abuse, a threat to self, or others Like NRA Dana Loesch claimed. I could go on and on but since you are just picking sides and absolving the people in power of responsibility there is no point.

Sorry, the design of the AR was for military use, they were turned into civillian versions with the exclusion of a trigger pack enabling burst or full auto. You can buy a mod 0 kit and anything else to have the exact same product as you see on any special forces (military) image - with aftermarket suppliers giving you access to parts of very high quality.

What a sad waste of an opportunity for an honest, thought provoking , discussion of ideas to make our country a safer place to live. I commend Senator Rubio for having the courage to stand on that stage and speak - when he was actually allowed to do so, without being rudely interrupted - about some solid ideas that could be implemented in order to make all of us safer. Congressman Deutch, who, sitting on that stage, took every opportunity to sneer and show distaste for anything Senator Rubio had to say, was an absolute representation of partisanship, and as such, is a prime example of why real and needed changes, through legislation, cannot be passed in this country.

She didn't say "we need to ban assault weapons to civilians."
She said "we need to keep them out of the hands of the loons."
Problem is, this ignores the fact that the shooter in this case PASSED A BACKGROUND CHECK and was sold a gun. Her response ignores the entire cause of the tragedy: the kid being sold the gun in the first place. If guns were banned, that shooting would not have happened.

They are simply an organization of people who are pro-gun, wether for hunting, sport, self-defense, or training, or whatever other reason. No one at the NRA *wants* a school shooting. Just look at the video, anyone representing them gets crucified simply because of some inaccurate assumption that being pro-gun means being pro-murder.

Watching this again 4 and a half years later, and a week after the sentencing of the Parkland shooter. I will start by saying this… in 1993, when I was a senior in high school here in Brooklyn, NY, a student was stabbed and killed in the hallway. Even though it was an isolated incident, metal detectors were installed pretty much immediately. We had to go through them every morning as well as having random scannings. As kids, we all felt like it was an inconvenience, but as an adult I feel like the school 100 percent did the right thing. Unfortunately, we live in a time where every single school in this country should have every possible preventative measure installed. And don’t even get me started on the gun issue!! On another note, I give all the credit in the world to the family members and students who got up on that stage a week after the shooting!! I probably would have been curled up in a ball in my bed.

Sheriff Israel blames lawmakers while the deputies waited outside for the shooter to stop and sneak out. He wants to build schools harder to get inside. But that makes it harder to get out. Stanley George
Nazi is an acronym for National SOCIALIST German Worker's Party. (In German) Obviously a self-declared socialist worker's party is very clearly left-wing.
Contrary to popular belief, fascism can be most accurately defined as the political belief that the state is more important than the individual. This belief is what allowed fascists to justify pursuing "racial purification" of humanity. They considered the individual rights of those they killed as less important than the greater good that they fervently believed would come to humanity through the supremacy of a certain race. Essentially, fascism focussed on community, rather than the individual, which is undoubtedly a hallmark of the left wing.
Also, the right-wing is always considered to be more focused on religion than the left, and fascist states were bitterly opposed to religion. The Nazis actually set up a religion called positive christianity which incorporated racial elements and the swastika, and was intended to gradually move Germany away from Christianity toward "mystical Darwinist vitalism" based on ancient Vedic (aryan) rituals. Mussolini was forced to cooperate with the Catholic Church to some extent because the Italian people were overwhelmingly devout Catholics. However, on a personal level, Mussolini was always very contemptuous of religion, and often privately referred to priests as "black flies".
Finally, when fascism was on the rise throughout Europe, it was the ideology of young liberals, based on bold new ideas like eugenics that conservatives shunned.
Mussolini, like Marx and Lenin, saw the party as the vanguard of the working class, a force from without the system that would usher in change. Mussolini was in fact a member of the socialist party of Italy, although he broke with the party on the issue of neutrality during World War I. It was later that Mussolini thought to combine socialism with nationalism, and form a new party. He called the combination “fascism.” A fasces is a bundle of rods, each individually weak while the bundle is strong. Mussolini’s counterpart in Germany called the combination “national socialism.” In Germany, where they like long words, this became “Nationalsozialistische.” In America, where we like short words, this became “Nazi.”
Adolph Hitler was in many ways like Mussolini. Hitler, like Mussolini, was a great admirer of Marx, and was originally a member of the socialist party. Hitler, like Mussolini, served in the army of his country during World War I, and both rose to the rank of corporal. Hitler, like Mussolini, said that the members of the working class were not easily drawn to revolutionary socialism, but were responsive to a combination of socialism and nationalism.
The new national socialist parties of Italy and Germany clashed with the communist parties of those countries. This was a clash of rivals both of which were revolutionary socialist and had the will to power. Then, when the traditional conservative, liberal and democratic socialist parties were in decline, the national socialists rose to power with the support of certain industrialists (we would say “crony capitalists”).
The main difference between Hitler’s form of national socialism and Mussolini’s concerned the meaning of “nationalism.” Hitler thought of nationalism along genetic lines, while Mussolini thought of nationalism along cultural lines. American progressives were, at the time, sympathetic to both points of view. Woodrow Wilson was definitely in the racist camp. Theodore Roosevelt in the cultural camp. Family planning, abortion and forced sterilization were part of the agenda, along with establishing labor colonies for the undesirable elements of society and using public schools to indoctrinate the next generation. In Oregon, the KKK was successful in outlawing private or religious schools until the Supreme Court ruled that to be unconstitutional.
Then came, with the end of World War II, knowledge of the horrors that the Nazis had unleashed upon the world. Certainly, American progressives did not want to be associated with that. So, there was a whitewash of history.
The connections of American progressives with the KKK, forced sterilization, experimentation on prisoners, advocacy of labor colonies, internment of Americans of Japanese descent, and admiration of fascism had to disappear from history. Even more, fascism and racism were redefined as right-wing, instead of left-wing.

that is a GOOD piece of DEFLECTION that has NOTHING TO do with this issue in this society. If the Nazis were so leftist why were they supported by "Conservative right-wing christians?" Both are racists and conservative "good christian" right wing shitbags! Just because they used a good idea of nationalism regarding taking care of fellow citizens basic needs does not automatically make them "leftists." Nazis/Hitler hated the Communists Russians.

      1. First of all, yes you are correct that the formal name of the Nazi party is the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, however most historians, and really anyone who actually understands the definitions of fascist and Socialist, agree that the name speaks to the image that the Nazis wanted to project, and not what they actually espoused. They wanted to attract workers and lead them away from the Communists, so they projected an image of egalitarianism and individuals' rights, and not the image of raw totalitarianism that they intended to act on. So in actuality, the Nazis rebranded themselves to win power, and were so NOT "clearly left-wing."
This guy, an actual teacher and historian does a better job of explaining the misnomer. www.google.com/amp/www.indy100.com/article/nazi-socialist-right-wing-white-supremacists-history-twitter-mikestuchbery-7900001%3famp
      2. There is no community under fascism. Fascism preemptively tears down community before it can interfere with the interests of the party in power and the state. Saying that fascism focuses on the community is crazy naive. A fascist state makes sure your neighbors are the first ones to turn you in.
      4. You're correct in saying that Mussolini was a leading figure of Italy's socialist wing, and that he opposed the Socialists' objection to war, however you conveniently leave out that he was kicked out of the party for this very reason, and that by the time he became known for the personality we remember him for, he was completely against socialism, fought against socialists and covetted authoritarian power, which goes against the foundations of socialism.
      5. It's just so wrong to see Nazism as a form of, or an outgrowth of, socialism. Not only was Hitler not a socialist himself, nor a communist, but he actually hated these ideologies and did his utmost to destroy them. A good source that talks about this is Richard Evans book, The Coming of the Third Reich.
      6. Again, national Socialists and Socialists are not the same thing! Everyone say it with me now. National socialists want superiority. They focus on ethnicity, more specifically race, to build pride in one's people and nation. National Socialism is an oxymoron that gets bundled together with socialism, whose aim is equal distribution of the world’s resources among all its peoples, only in name and not in ideology.
      7. Progressives weren't the only ones who approved of Japanese internment, many other ideologies were also on the train, however I agree with you that eugenics is an unfortunate detail in America's history of progressivism. Just one of the many consequences of social darwinism that somehow attracted people in the 1920's. Although, the fact that you're associating fascism and the KKK removing religion from schools with today's progressives is so utterly stupid. What does someone think when a Republican politician today says "we're the party of Lincoln?" They think the comparison is retarded, because it's so out of touch.
Nice try with the misinformation campaign, though.

that's right. Because Jesus NEVER said, 'Woe unto those who harm little children. It's better that a millstone be hung around their neck." You're right--obviously Jesus hated little children, but I'm sure he would love to fire off your AR 15. Cling to your guns, eat them cause they're tasty--jerk!

@Big smelly Willy, 2 minutes hate in 1984 is a fictional event in which the authoritarian government provides a scapegoat for all the people to project their anger and frustration onto. Once the 2 minutes of hate ends, they continue on with their subservient lives without changing anything or doing anything else. This is used as a manipulation tactic by the government to prevent people from taking any action to improve their lot, it makes them feel better, like they have done something, but in reality they did nothing but yell at a screen.

Anesu 32 he’s just summarizing what happens in the book & saying how it relates to what our modern politicians do in response to school shootings . tbhhh marco rubio may have gotten the most mixed response of all his colleagues but he’s the only one who seems to understand how legislation in this country works . the people who run this nation are those who have the most $$$ ultimately when it comes to the NRA , once that check or transaction comes the (R) party would accept it in heartbeat with no questions asked . Take for example in countries like the United Kingdom , Australia, & Canada passing laws comes much more smoother cause the government don’t give af about filling their pockets but instead protecting the people within it . It also makes sense why he simply ducked the hard hitting questions cause he knows that he’ll take funding to lessen the laws on firearms , overall this change they present to us won’t come especially with a radical being known as Donald Trump is still in office & if Obama couldn’t do it for Sandy Hook and Pulse it damn sure won’t happen under Trump .

What’s sad is that we have gun laws and restrictions. Yet stuff like this keeps happening. So no, it’s not a matter of not having harsh enough regulations and restrictions. If someone is determined enough to get their hands on a weapon, they will get their hands on one. I see so many comments saying that the legal age to purchase a firearm is 18, yet you have to be 21 to legally drink. Yet, 18 year olds can go and serve our country... People don’t want to face the fact that the mental health epidemic in this country is growing. It’s not guns and it’s not the fact that a teenage boy could access one. Normal teenage boys are sane enough to own a weapon and use it responsibly. There were a lot of things that could have prevented this from happening. Perhaps if law enforcement took his threats and comments seriously something could have been done before hand. No sane person makes comments like those. Why wasn’t he taken in for a psych evaluation? And then there are comments saying that we shouldn’t even have guns since they are so commonly used in crimes. What kind of comment is that? It’s in our 2nd amendment that we have the right to bear arms and the minute that is taken away from us, we lose freedom. It doesn’t matter if times have changed since it was written. You shouldn’t take people’s rights because there are mentally challenged people. Perhaps if we stepped up once and for all and actually did something other than shove mental illness under a rug a lot of the tragedies that occur could be prevented.

I find it very funny to see how seemingly all of you Americans exactly know what the founders meant, why they did something or how they had foreseen the future. I'm guessing the founders if we told the founders that we're sharing our opinion with someone at the other side of the world, they'd make a three-double flip-flop and ask "WHAT?!?!?!". En plus, the founders aren't GOD. Everytime I hear anyone speaking about Jefferson, Madison and Washington (the three that are mostly mentioned) it's like they're the holy trinity or something. You know, ever IF they meant it like you assume they do, they CAN be wrong.

    • @Gskar009

The founding fathers papers are a good idea on how they thought. None of them state a limitatiion on the type of weapon. If you wanna chnage the 2A get 38 states to support a change to it. Otherwise it shall not be infringed.

    • @LeahVandenborre
      @LeahVandenborre 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, sure they are, but it was also not what I was saying. I said that yelling "the founding fathers said it!!!!" is not an argument in a gun debate. The founding fathers wrote down the 2A like this and until that's changed it will be on paper as such, but it's not an argument to whether it is good or bad. The Founding Fathers were not God, they did not have eternal wisdom and they certainly are not always right.
As to your other argument - banning some types of weapons is not an infringement on your 2A. No constitutional right is limitless. They also didn't specify in the 1A what you could and could not say, that doesn't mean you can say whatever the hell you want to.

Zoom Salad, before you get too butthurt over what Leah is saying, remember that Thomas Jefferson straight up agrees with her.
Leah is saying that the founding fathers laid a foundation, but that they are not Gods with eternal wisdom.
Well......here's Jefferson's words on that very subject.
*"But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors"*
Basically what i'm saying is that Leah and Thomas Jefferson are in complete agreement.
Funny how that quote often eludes these debates. The second amendment is not all encompassing nor was it expected to be. We have made advancements in guns that have far and away eclipsed what was available to the founders and they would certainly agree that in lieu of those advancements, amendments to the constitution MUST be made in kind.
Lest we remain as "barbarous" as they were.
      And we ARE barborous now.
Leah is right. Her wisdom isn't at all impaired because she wasn't born an American because her wisdom is shared by one of the greatest Americans of all time. Her "interpretation" of the amendments, or rather, her consideration of them........is exactly in line with what Jefferson wanted.
She knows, as well as he did, that the 2nd amendment will be and is NOW.........outdated.
Now it's true that 38 states need to support a change to it before change happens and i'm damned sure that change will happen if these kids and the rest of the country continue to push for it.
And that's because you can't hurt them the same way you can hurt a political opponent. They literally have nothing to lose and it's making the NRA and conservative republicans cringe hard.
