    I'm very lucky - Over the years, my backyard rabbit friends have developed quite a taste for Proven Winners supertunias and they do a very nice job of keeping the potted plants trimmed when the overhang gets too close to the ground. Young cottontails seem especially fond of supertunias so it is a win-win for all concerned!

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A few sprays of Plantskydd in spring (very ugly but the color goes away) will have your young cottontails looking elsewhere for dinner! In personal experience the granules are not as effective. This is not a Proven Winners product but it works! Any new growth also spray, it is a systemic treatment that actually changes the taste of the plant, not topical which washes off. Good luck!

    • @anthonyvossman4734
      @anthonyvossman4734 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the tip - I'll have to try that product in a few places next year! I must admit though, I don't really mind the little bunnies because they never seem to bite off any higher than they can reach from the ground and most of my pots are fairly large and tall.

    If you only have a few plants, you can take what you cut off and break or cut some off the leggy off then stick the good parts in another container and they will grow and continue to bloom. It fills in some gaps in other containers or makes a new container. I do this a lot since I don’t have that many of them and my budget doesn’t allow purchasing a lot of these. 🌺

    This past year I cut back my petunias about three times. It was hard because there were a lot of blooms, but each time after a couple weeks the hanging plants were fuller and full of blooms. I fertilized my hanging petunias every Monday with Miracle Grow and then regular watering throughout the week.

    Hi Laura. Im in zone 7a and was insipired to plant SUpertunias and Petunias mainly because of you and I’m loving them. I started buying them from a nursery with 3-4 blooms around late April and they have grown huge and still alive now that its June. Do you have an idea how long they would normally last in my zone? They’re in my garden everywhere and I want to plan ahead in replacing them once they are done.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much of that depends on weather. When the hours of sun and warm climates shift that is when the plants Supertunias might seem a bit tired. But if you want to keep them going strong remember full sun, consistent watering (do not let them dry down) and quality water soluble plant food every third watering is the secret!

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube

      Best to mix it in with your water, and then fill your AquaPot with that water. That way the water to plant food ratio is correct, not matter how much water you add to the AquaPot.

    • @ProvenWinnersYouTube
      @ProvenWinnersYouTube  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, petunias are a bit tougher than our Superbells, those are plants that really do not like their roots to sit in water, I have been known to run out on my deck and put those pots under the eaves of the house before a storm! The excess water drains the plant of its nutrients, so good plant food should help, along with less water.

    • @wakkywabbit5446
      @wakkywabbit5446 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vista Fuschia's growth habit, if I remember correctly, is almost twice that of Daybreak Charm. Even though both are heavy feeders during peak, you can't feed and water Daybreak Charm the same as Fuschia. You're gonna starve and overwater Morning Charm. Cutting Fuschia the same size as Morning Charm won't work. Fuschia is gonna dominate because its roots are bigger, better, stronger.
      Since the issue was 11 months ago, my advice is to select supertunias (any aggressive annual) with very similar growth size and needs for the same open container.

    • @provenwinnersgrowers

      They might, but deer prefer to not bend over that much. Plantskydd spray is a wonderful deterrent, and though the color is not pleasant please know the plant absorbs this spray and the color does go away. I don’t know why I proven winners instruct people to only take 20% off. I’ve never seen anyone take 20% off! And to be honest, I go in with my Supertunia’s! I takeoff 75 to 80% almost every time and I’ve never had any problem with them rebounding

    If I need to split a Supertunia, can I root the parts that I needed to cut?

      Not sure if those will root for you in water, anytime you mess with a rooting system, especially of an annual, it might not have a positive outcome. Perennials and shrubs are more forgiving.
