I read that, while writing this song, Kenshi lost his grandpa which made it really hard for him to finish writing this song; it was the first death of his relatives he experienced. He said in an interview, "I feel like Grandpa helped me write this song. To me, this song is saying "I'm sad because you passed, rather than helping someone cope with their loss. I feel like that because I didn't have the heart to help anyone when he passed away. But when listening to the song objectively, it made me realize it became a song for everyone who's suffering from losses. Again, Grandpa gave me this opportunity and he's the reason this song exists. "
another thing, idfk if im right but kenshi also had a dream of being in a funeral, there was one guy who was whistling and everyone found it disrespectful, but kenshi knew the dudes whistling was a way they were communicating with the dead. i dont know how that influenced lemon but it did apperntly
@@ScarletSheldon-pr3iq I believe thats why he wears high heels at the funeral in the MV, same high heels the girl wears dancing. to show some people might act different in a funeral and it might be a thing between them and the deceased
Oh, I cry when I listen to this song. The high heels he wears in the music video represent a "promise" or "connection" between the deceased and only himself. It means that the memories and relationship between two people is not something that others can know.
He worte the song for a TV show called "unnatural". It tells the life of forensic doctors and how people deal with the loss of loved ones. Kenshi Yonezu's grandfather passed away while he was writing this song.
The fact that he produces, writes, and sings his songs makes him a true legend!! Some songs I'd like to recommend: Shinigami, eine kleine, haiirotoao, uchiagi hanabi, flamingo.
There's such a beauty in this song, about grief and how to cope with it. Of course, people will resonate with that. There was an phase in Japan where this was so overplayed in outlets and socmed, and occassionaly meme'd bc of how popular it was. And for a long time when that was happening I didn't even listen to the song because there'd be a place or video with it playing anyway. Now after probably like, a couple of years since I last heard it? This song is just as beautiful if not more as the first time I heard it. Glad you got to react to it so fresh, love to see that raw emotion 😂
I love how genuine you are in your reactions and your perspective on all these different songs in different languages. I’ve listened to this song so many times but I feel like I appreciate it way more now after your reaction! Would love to see you react more to Yuuri’s songs as well ❤
This song is known to have been written by Kenshi Yonezu in memory of his late grandfather and as the theme song for a TV show about an anatomy laboratory, but when I first heard "Lemon," I couldn't help but think of "Chieko-sho," a collection of poems written by Kotaro Takamura, an artist of the old days of Japan. His wife was also an artist and followed in his footsteps by immersing herself in the art world, but she developed a mental illness due to a combination of her natural physical weakness and misfortune, and was not appreciated as she thought she would be, and she died of exhaustion in despair. Kotaro, who nursed her to sleep and saw her off, published "Chieko-sho" three years after her death. "Lemon Elegy" is a poem he wrote as he watched Chieko's moment of death.
You so late to come, but it's finally here! He's one of the purest and greatest talents in the music industry Japan has ever produced. Mad love for his vibe and the beautiful lyrics. You gotta check out " spinning globe" which is done for the latest Ghibli movie.
Thank you for your reaction. To me his work is about equal song writing, video art and poetry and there are so many aspects and dimensions to what he is doing. I suggest Flamingo, there is more, believe me, but I think that would make a good reaction. Have fun! :)
So happy you reacted to this song, its amazing. I was listening alot to this song cause it was fitting to my mood when my grandma passed, I just realized a few weeks after why when I looked up the lyrics and the background, especially that Kenshis grandfather also passed while he made that song. Started listening to alot of more songs of him afterwards and hes still my favorite artist and this is my favorite song of him. Absolutely heartbreaking but at the same time a great way and example how to deal with grief and sadness.
THIS, this is the song that convinced me just how different japanese music is, they're just a different weight of popular music. thank you for reaction, thats exactly my first reaction to the song, even when watching the drama, the songs carried beautifully. I think the drama are going to be on netflix, but I dont know when, if you interested, please check them up
I would suggest looking up some covers of this song as well, because to me, I think it emphasizes how special the song is. what Kenshi Yonezu has created here is not just a deeply affecting piece of music that speaks to the heart of anyone who's experienced a loss before, but also a melody that invites others to take part in their own experience with the work. even I sometimes find myself humming it, and on a conceptual level, I think that's really cool... that a song about missing someone can draw people in like that. also, I don't know that this is really how choosing which artist does an anime opening works, but I feel like Kenshi Yonezu's sentimentality was a good fit for Chainsaw Man. if you haven't heard the full version of Kickback, trust me, there's a bridge section in the full song that feels downright angelic, in a way that really reminds me of what he's doing here. anyway, this one's my favorite cover:【歌詞付き】Lemon/米津玄師(Full Covered by あさぎーにょ)ドラマ『アンナチュラル』主題
Awesome reaction, I'm glad more people are discovering his music. Just letting you and others know, he's going on his first world tour next year. It's only a small tour, but he's going to London, Paris, LA and NY as well as a handful of Asian cities (I think in South Korea, Taiwan and China?)
This song is the theme song for the drama "Unnatural." It is a suspense drama in which a murder case is unraveled from a body that seems to have died an unnatural death. This PV was produced based on the concept of the drama, "listening to the voices of the dead. Incidentally, all the dancing woman was played backwards. The unnatural movements of the dancer express the afterlife. I think the lyrics were also written based on the concept of the drama, "We continue to fight against the absurdity of death in this world for the future of those who lose their loved ones but continue to live afterwards."
When I first heard this song, I was going through a very hard time with a break up. The song helped me cope with being alone after a year or 2 of my relationship. I’m not sad about the break up anymore but happy about the good memories. I still listen to this song a lot and I still like that girl.
I miss Kenshi Yonezu(米津玄師) previous identity, a VOCALOID P Hachi (ハチ). He once suffered from high-functioning autism, but gradually recovered from the disease after being exposed to VOCALOID. After releasing the last VOCALOID song, he began to debut under his own name (Initially, he disliked his own name as well) As the final work of VOCALOID P Hachi "Suna no Wakusei/砂之惑星" I also recommend you to reaction to it
From what I know, he was making this song during a tour, and his grandfather passed away at that time, which delayed the making of it, so he added his feelings about it in it.
my favorite Keshi Yonezu song is "Umi no Yuurei" it's from a movie and I haven't even watched that movie, I just love the song! it has a special place in my favorites songs of all time but at the same time it makes me sad coz it reminds me of the time Astel from Holostars sung this as a goodbye for his number 1 fan / the artists that makes his cover song art that passed away amidst the pandemic a few years ago
NO WAYYYYYYYYYYY NOOOO WAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YOU GOTTA HAVE SOME POWER BRO, EVERYTIME I'M LISTENING SOMETHING OR ABOUT SOMETHING YOU JUST POST A REACTION OF IT A SECOND AFTER WTF
Ah, so nostalgic. I feel that this song is what made Kenshi Yonezu suddenly famous outside of the internet world in Japan. *Before making his major debut, he was active as a famous Vocaloid music artist in the internet world. By the way, the name of this strange and advanced dancer is Nao Yoshigai. She is a filmmaker, choreographer, and dancer.
He is a singing poet. We recommend that you listen to it while looking at the translation. This song has an English translation, but most of Kenshi Yonezu's songs do not have English translations. The "rain" that appears in this song is a metaphor for "tears." It expresses the psychology of the bereaved family, who are unable to return to their daily lives due to their grief.
After watching your reactions to Ado, Hikaru Utada and Kenshi Yonezu so many times, I felt your love for us Japanese and I finally clicked Subscribe. Thank you for all your love for music no matter where it comes from. I think you’re awesome and amazing.
Next part is what I copy pasted, when I searched for a deeper signification of the song. And it's like I thought : a song about the loss of a deceased person, enjoy : "This beautiful song “lemon” by kenshi yonezu was created by him while mourning for the loss of his grandfather. It tells the story of death and life, from the perspective of those who you left behind, and those who had gone away from the realms of life. At first he was making it for a drama, but as his grandfather passed away, he tried add those feelings to the song too. And thus named it “lemon”. The song started with the perspective of the people that is left behind by the deceased, who still hopes that the tragedy is only a dream, how important you were for me, and how wonderful the memories that they spent together. He laments the sourness of the scent of Lemon that pains his heart greatly, before breaking to tears.During the part when Yonezu Kenshi sang「何をしていたの 何を見ていたの」, the perspective changed to the perspective of the deceased person. The deceased wishes for the person that is left behind to stay strong and just forget their memories. The deceased also stated that he is also lonely in the afterlife, and how unreal it was to be there, without his/her loved ones.In conclusion, the deceased said that every memories including bitterness and pain that he/she experienced was alive will always be remembered and loved. The deceased also laments the bitter scent of Lemons which also pains his/her heart greatly. So that’s what Lemon is about."
I know this is not what you normally do but PLEASE give “unnatural” live action Japanese drama a watch. It’s, without exaggeration, a masterpiece. And this is from personal experience, after watching the drama, everytime you listen to Lemon again, it hits EVEN HARDER, just because of all the scenes in the drama you will start remembering where this song usually starts to play at the end of every episode. Please give maybe the first one or two episodes a shot. The show is very popular in Japan but honestly not getting the spotlight it deserves in other parts of the world unlike its ending theme Lemon. If you think Lemon is a masterpiece, you’ll definitely appreciate Unnatural too
The other day, I was listening to this song while riding the train, and I burst into tears and missed getting off at my destination station. Even though I had heard this song many times and knew the lyrics, even though many years had passed, it still reminded me of my parents who passed away. The song tells me that my regret over my parents' death will never go away.
Did not expect this today love this song, Kenshi also did Chainsaw opening Kick back and My hero academia opening 2 Peace sign. Will recommend Eve again he did Jujutsu kaisen opening 1 Kaikai kitan, Chainsaw man ending 12 Fight song and My hero academia opening 11 Bokurano For non anime songs you can start with Dramaturgy, How to eat life, Raison d'etre, Last dance, Night is faint
I know people have already been saying this, but this is used as a theme song for the Jdrama "Unnatural". It's really worth a watch imo. I don't really watch Kdramas or Jdramas, but I was immediately hooked with this one. Prolly biased as someone who's in the medical field, but I still think it was great. ^_^
This song still hits like a bulldozer. There are btw many really nice covers of this song, many by artists as well. For example *Seungmin from Stray Kids* sang this live at concert I fully recommend his Uma to Shika song.
Now I would love to see a reaction for the TV series Unnatural (2018) where this song came from. It's such a decorated series that won MULTIPLE awards. This could be a great introduction for you to the JDrama scene.
This was awesome. Please react to the March Comes in Like a Lion endings. Kenshi Yonezu did one of the endings called Orion and it is amazing. Also he actually drew one of the end cards for the anime as well.
I guess many Japanese hit songs are more of emotional ones, compared to the mainstream of the world. I feel like a broken record, but The First Take performance of Angela Aki's "Tegami (Letter)" is another emotional masterpiece.
I love this song and I was excited to see you reacting to it. Yeah, it's a pretty emotional song and very beautiful, too. Other Kenshi Yonezu songs I'd recommend are "Flamingo" and "Haiiro to Ao". He's also popular in the Vocaloid fandom as he's made a lot of popular songs under the name Hachi. Vocaloid songs he made that I'd recommend are "Matryoshka" and "Sand Planet". Other Japanese music I'd recommend from other artists (find ones with subtitles cause some of these don't have ones in their official MVs): - "Happy End" by Back Number - "Say It" by Yorushika - "Bite the Second Hand" by Zutomayo - "Kaijuu no Hanauta" by Vaundy - "Hakujitsu" by King Gnu - "Dramaturgy" by Eve - "Plastic Love" by Mariya Takeuchi - "Cherish" by Ai Otsuka
I remember when I got into Kenshin right before he sang the opening for MHA. Really wish more people learned about him before CSM. He writes and composes his own music and puts his heart and soul into them. A lot of his songs have meaning, for example this one. Lemon is based off his thoughts of his grandfather who unfortunately passed. Edit: you nailed it right in the head with the meaning on this song.
Hey bro ! you should react to Spinning globe, it's recent music by Kenshi that he wrote for the latest Ghibli film released to date "the boy and the heron", There is also Umi no yuurei, music that he written for the film "spirit of the sea". Two emotional bangers!
4:53 except that's not what he says there. What he's actually doing is *begging* this other person to forget him - he hates the thought that this person might feel any of the same pain he is feeling, and would rather be forgotten entirely than countenance the idea that this person he loves so much might experience the same grief
Before I wrote the opening for chainsaw man I remember watching a video with the most popular songs in Japan and without any exaggeration there were at least 20 Kenshi Yonezu songs. both own and covers. He is a crazy artist. Obviously LiSA also had many positions occupied. Thanks for the reaction. I hope you make a Flamingo or fireworks. I love them.🎉
Love Kenshi Yonezu but I personally like his past vocaloid songs even better. Matoryoshka is my favorite (His name was Hachi back then btw) and I'd love to see you react to it. There's almost no reactions to this song online even though it's super popular.
Idk if u have reacted to this band called "BUMP OF CHICKEN" they r a insanely huge band that has influenced many musicians in Japan. Such as Yonezu kenshi, One Ok Rock, Alexandros, Suda Masaki, Mrs. Green Apple, RADWIMPS, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, etc... pretty much most Japanese modern artist
If you like Lemon you should check out the music video for "Machigai Sagashi" by Masaki Suda, it is also written by Kenshi Yonezu and an equally emotionally heavy song.
Its been 6 years since this song was released and till now i don't know what is the name of the Girl damcing in reversed 😂 when it was first released i thought that was Satomi Ishihara because of the Unnatural 😂
If not mistaken, this song had a no. 1 spot billboard's battles with penapple song for months which is hilarious. Fruit songs topped the billboard lol.

"Campanella" is a song based on the Japanese literature "Night on the Galactic Railway."

Yes, there are a lot more song that you need to react from him, Lady is one of the my favourite song from him.
This song is the theme song for TV show Unnatural, which is about a group of forensic scientists/mortician so.....
He also did the My Hero Academia OP2, Chainsaw Man OP.
One of my favourite "new" artists in a long time
Did not expect this today love this song, Kenshi also did Chainsaw opening Kick back and My hero academia opening 2 Peace sign. Will recommend Eve again he did Jujutsu kaisen opening 1 Kaikai kitan, Chainsaw man ending 12 Fight song and My hero academia opening 11 Bokurano
For non anime songs you can start with Dramaturgy, How to eat life, Raison d'etre, Last dance, Night is faint
Don't forget Orion from March Comes in Like a Lion
@@captainkatsura26 Haven't seen that show so didn't know that
Thank you for the recommendations!
His music really is amazing!
@@shockhorn81 it's such a good song but went under the radar because the anime wasn't very popular
@@captainkatsura26 Yeah I really like song just didn't know it was tied to an anime
For example *Seungmin from Stray Kids* sang this live at concert
I fully recommend his Uma to Shika song.
Now I would love to see a reaction for the TV series Unnatural (2018) where this song came from. It's such a decorated series that won MULTIPLE awards. This could be a great introduction for you to the JDrama scene.
I have heard it's great ❤️
That Series was 12/10, Man 👌
This was awesome. Please react to the March Comes in Like a Lion endings. Kenshi Yonezu did one of the endings called Orion and it is amazing. Also he actually drew one of the end cards for the anime as well.
Thank you for the recommendation! Happy to check them out ❤️
素敵なリアクションをありがとう。
私もこの曲を聴くたびに、歌詞とメロディの悲しい美しさに泣いてしまいます。
Kenshi Yonezu is so inspiring, seeing another Autistic person thrive in an industry they are passionate about motivates me to chase my dreams too
Kenshi Yonezu is like the GOAT of all Jpop. YOASOBI?Ado? No one can match him.
This a lovely song
A song he wrote when his grandfather died. ado、いいなぁ~~💕いってらっしゃいませ
I guess many Japanese hit songs are more of emotional ones, compared to the mainstream of the world.
I feel like a broken record, but The First Take performance of Angela Aki's "Tegami (Letter)" is another emotional masterpiece.
kenshi yonezu back to around 2017/2018 is the yoasobi and ado today, almost every song is JP billboard guaranteed
Lemon Kickback, damn charted in the BillBoard at Top ❤
I love this song and I was excited to see you reacting to it. Yeah, it's a pretty emotional song and very beautiful, too. Other Kenshi Yonezu songs I'd recommend are "Flamingo" and "Haiiro to Ao". He's also popular in the Vocaloid fandom as he's made a lot of popular songs under the name Hachi. Vocaloid songs he made that I'd recommend are "Matryoshka" and "Sand Planet".
Other Japanese music I'd recommend from other artists (find ones with subtitles cause some of these don't have ones in their official MVs):
- "Happy End" by Back Number
- "Say It" by Yorushika
- "Bite the Second Hand" by Zutomayo
- "Kaijuu no Hanauta" by Vaundy
- "Hakujitsu" by King Gnu
- "Dramaturgy" by Eve
- "Plastic Love" by Mariya Takeuchi
- "Cherish" by Ai Otsuka
Thanks for listening to Kenshi Yonezu's music😊There are other good songs, please listen to them.
plss react to Spirits of the Sea also by Kenshi Yonezu !!!!
i reccomend you to react at his concert OPAL
W reaction. Kenshi is one of the best. For more songs of his, I recommend "Flamingo" and "Shinigami."" Two of the coolest, swagiest songs I've heard.
まってたあああ!!
Patiently waiting for my Friday TS video. 👀
Btw he doesnt say I loved you with all that sadness and pain, he says you who loved me even through all of that sadness and pain
React to more of Kenshi Yonezu !
oh wow didn't realize you've not done this one before. This is one of those songs that has been covered to high heaven xD
Finally, after centuries 😂
4:53 except that's not what he says there. What he's actually doing is *begging* this other person to forget him - he hates the thought that this person might feel any of the same pain he is feeling, and would rather be forgotten entirely than countenance the idea that this person he loves so much might experience the same grief
1:29 that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for that I didn't realise she was moving in reverse I just thought it was some weird dance
Lemon is actually the most viewed Japanese language video on all of TH-cam which is kinda crazy
I love them.🎉
Really deep song
Please react to Kanden and Shinigami also from Kenshi Yonezu
I cannot hear this song without hearing Okayu saying "UE!" between each line.
Just like one of the poem quoted by JoJo, To love and win is the best thing. To love and lose, the next best.
Also see Kenshi's other songs
I really would love to see you react to Yuuri again
No puedo quitarme esta canción de la cabeza
Love Kenshi Yonezu but I personally like his past vocaloid songs even better. Matoryoshka is my favorite (His name was Hachi back then btw) and I'd love to see you react to it. There's almost no reactions to this song online even though it's super popular.
you are correct. this is about coping with a loss.
This is THE most viewed Japanese music video in the world btw
That's amazing!
Its been 6 years since this song was released and till now i don't know what is the name of the Girl damcing in reversed 😂 when it was first released i thought that was Satomi Ishihara because of the Unnatural 😂
Eine kleine and Orion would be a good choiceee
If not mistaken, this song had a no. 1 spot billboard's battles with penapple song for months which is hilarious. Fruit songs topped the billboard lol.
Please, "Koi" from hoshino gen next :)
Love the reaction as always!
Please check out Kenshi Yonezu - Spinning Globe, I think you gonna like it too.
Jessica a New Fan🥰
アンナチュラルというドラマの主題歌でした。ドラマを見てから再度聞き直してみてください。ドラマも大変良いドラマでした
