      I agree with both of those tracks. Shrinking Universe and The Groove are two fun little bops too.

    Funny you mention the production because band disliked it, so it had a full re mix done to it for its 20th Anniversary, which gives it a more spacious, clearer sound, plus some instruments you can't even hear on the original.
    I would highly reccomend the whole album. It is their best in my opinion, before they became caricatures of themselves.

    Muse and Coldplay got debut albums out around the same time. They performed what I understood from my friend who went a 50/50 split series of gigs together (rather than support then headliner) and if memory serves correctly, had back to back performances on "The Other Stage" at Glastonbury 1999, and of course they have both brilliantly headlined that festival multiple times since.
    I liked Coldplay back then and still sort of do now, and my word can they put on an entertaining gig. However, after hearing "Showbiz", the title track of Muse debut album, and a real standout track for the album, I really got into them I bought origins of symmetry when it came out, but this song wasn't an instant favorite for me, though I loved that outtro, and I've always thought of it as a bit of a grower. Glad you liked it.
    As for their newer stuff, after 4 straight alternative rock albums, they wanted to experiment and try new stuff, fair enough. Some things worked, others not so much, but I've found at least a couple of tracks on each album (not necessarily the singles mind you) that are really good, but I'll agree that especially for those who discovered them early, those early albums have way more hits than the latter ones that are more prone to misses, but at least they tried stuff.
    Anyway. Check out Showbiz or muscle museum from the debut, plug in Baby, New born or hyper music from origins, Stockholm syndrome or butterflies and hurricanes from absolution, and hysteria or assassin from black holes. Live versions only. Oh and seriously, the Handler from Drones.

    As a lifelong Muse fan, they truly do have a lot of bad songs. As I get older I can start to see where a lot of their criticism comes from but I still do find myself coming back to their music from the 2000s, I actually like the performative-ness of all that era's music. Even when the lyrics don't go that deep, it's just a type of rock music I hadn't heard before and I still respect. I've mostly moved on to seek newer music but as you mentioned at the end, Muse was most definitely the gateway into a wider music-listening experience.

      I loved their first 5 albums. The rest not so much. Then, I recently heard a song by another artist. After a few listens I imagined what it would sound like if Matt Bellamy had done the vocals. It blew me away and I realised this is where I wanted muse to go musically.
      Babalon by Andrew W.K. is the song. It's fantastic and I am not a big fan of Mr. W.K, so there's no bias

    I never really cared about their lyrics and music videos, but boy oh boy are they masters of their instruments. The bass, the drums and the guitar works are all on fire!!! And their live performances are spot on

If you experience Muse for their will to experiment with any genre possible - you will appreciate their music much more! Also - Muse ALWAYS sound better live, you should check their live stuff out, you will learn to appreciate them on another level

    Hearing your thoughts on Coldplay's Parachutes really surprised me because you were calling U2's music you heard so far kind of blend and not melodic in earlier videos. But they were the biggest inspiration for Coldplay. They were their heroes Chris Martin said many times. I didn't think you would like Coldplay. Very interesting:)

    I am a little confused, you continually talk about how there's lots of bad Muse tracks out there (which in itself is a valid opinion), yet you've "only heard 5 tracks or so", and commented on liking at least 3 of them.
    What have you heard from their new "try-hard" catalogue, out of curiosity?
    Edit: Not hating on you for not liking everything they've done, I enjoyed your reaction! There were some things you said that were conflicting. You like Kinights of Cydonia, Undisclosed Desires, and Citizen Erased. What don't you like?
    Personally there are plenty of Muse songs I don't like. The pros heavily outweigh the cons for me. Plus, 90% of their songs are way better live, that's what got me hooked.
    Double edit: Also, I agree they've been try-hards as of late. They're dad-rock now. The thing is, a lot of it still works for me, and they still play lots of classics live. At this point, I am just happy they're still putting anything out, and still touring.

    • @AlexHaitz
      @AlexHaitz  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Let's just say I've heard 10 seconds here and there of their recent tracks (last 5-10 years) and it's been enough for me to just turn it off and not listen further.

    • @wewantthecup
      @wewantthecup ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I think you should give songs a full listen to fairly judge, but I get it.
      They've definitely had some stinkers since 2013, but there's still lots to appreciate within that time as well. Some of my favorite tracks are found within these "try-hard" albums that are kind of all over the place.

      I think most people expect a band to stay in the genre they start in (most bands do) and Muse just doesn't do that. I personally really like the Simulation Theory and Drones albums, but they aren't "original" Muse.

    Back then I thought Muse was some heavy shit. Well, they still are in my mind now but more like coming of age kids kinda angst, far from those cringe ass nu metal bullshit but still...pretty edgy, they're just...edgy. They're at their best when they keep doing the raging, torn-apart version of Radiohead, rather than embarrassingly impersonate the campy Queen or just throw a bunch of Neflix synth wave into the mix with awful, brainless lyrics.

    Wells if You only heard 5 songs of a band that has more de two decades going in, SO i can Say You don't know anything from them, that fact that You mention cold play is a clear sign that You actually don't know anythint about them and i don't mean yo Say anything offensive yo You use just that before talking about a band si better to recognize that don't You don't know mucho about it before going in ando try to explain something that You don't have much info, muse has nothing like Coldplay it's mostly a hard rock banda with some songs more lean into cool pop electronic (just to sell)
