    "BUDD" cars, good to see. I live in Australia, and "Budd's" (three air conditioned) operated in Australia for Commonwealth Railways
    "Trans Australia Railway"( built 1950) across the Nullarbor plain (dessert)'.
    From Port Augusta to Kalgoorlie, 1050 miles 1700 kilometres. if not the longest daily commutes (railroad worker settlements)in the world because Budd designed them for short to medium haul.
    One had and all were to have Rolls Royce six cylinder, diesel motors fitted later . They had a top speed up to 85mph 135 kmph.
    Each car (single or double operations) had a small built-in cafeteria/bar and 70 seats. They hauled one or two passenger/ luggage carriage,or/and luggage/parcel/ goods 4 axle van."

    I remember the "Day Liner's" operating on the Dominion Atlantic Railway (CP branch line) through the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia during the sixties and seventies. After the service was withdrawn, I was told they were stored at the CN yard in Moncton for years. Is the owner's looking to upgrade the line to handle more container traffic through Saint John heading for the USA market? The Budd was doing some bouncing on several of the views. One of your other video's showed the beautiful MacAdam station. Thank you for capturing great sights and sounds of Southwestern NB railroading.

    • @railfannernb2024
      @railfannernb2024 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few went to IRSI (Industrial Rail Services Inc) in Moncton, In 2012 2 or 3 were upgraded and are now in service in Sudbury. The rest that weren’t purchased by someone else were scrapped many years ago (2016ish). IRSI went under around 2017 and the facilities and remaining assets were sold to ARS and nothings happened since

      @@railfannernb2024 Thanks for the reply. CP ran the DAR to discourage traffic so they could close the short line once Highway 101 was completed. The Day Liner would get into the Halifax Station after 9:30 am, so people could not use it to commute to work. Most of the passenger traffic was seniors and Acadia students. We'd see three cars together to handle the Christmas traffic. They always seemed to have a classy look about them. When the Budd horn sounded on your video, that was a great memory flashback.

    • @railfannernb2024
      @railfannernb2024 ปีที่แล้ว

      My parents would always take the liners’ to get to Halifax when they went to University there. That was back when Petitcodiac and Salisbury had stations (and when there was passenger service). Supposedly there had been talks of bringing back passenger service here with upgraded RDCs but it unfortunately it never came to be.

He also did electrical design work on commuter railway cars for the Pennsylvania and Reading railroads the SPV2000, which were supposed to replace RDC cars and of course the Metroliner trains and the Amtrak Amfleet cars. The company was purchased by Bombardier, and its rail division is now part of Alsthom. These Budd RDCs were sold around the world by Budd and by 1st buyers on the used market. When CN and CP passenger services and associated rolling stock were transferred to VIA Rail in the late 1970s, CN kept a few for internal use. This is probably one of them.

    I rode the Cariboo in BC from Squamish to Williams Lake weekly in a RDC. Good ride, great crew, stunning scenery too.

    I remember when these Budd cars used to run revenue passenger service here on Vancouver Island. Nice to see they're still being used.

    From the 2:35 mark as well the very last clip, I have determined the original Detroit Diesel 6-110 two stroke engines have been replaced with 4 stroke units.

    Does it have a engine? sure is quiet and no smoke? what is it?

      The old Budd's had a two-stroke diesel. Two stroke motors, much more smoke than a four stroke motors.
      It probably has 4 stoke diesels now !
