Yes but when using a 3rd party adapter your loosing features that could be used on the system. Just upgrade the OEM Sony adapter from ide to sata via a 15$ kit and keep the features and allow use of sata hdd well not loosing any features that could be useful
Do you have to have the memory card with Freemake boot on it in order for the hard drive to be noticed I’m having trouble with my system reading my hard drive

The cheap ones suck for networking, I'll stick with an original + original IDE Drive as i don't care for speed.
Speed ist not very important here for shure… Regarding the network never need it :)
