    uhm, why does this not have 8 thousand million likes?!?! This is the most genius thing I've seen for a bed/couch!! This is just fulfilling my origami heart!!🤣🤣 Im sorry, but I'm TOTALLY stealing this design!😂😂😂 I doubt mines even turns out this awesome tho😂😂.

      @correta23 this is such a beautiful comment. Definitely gonna pin this to the top. I also don't know why it's not got millions of likes lol 😂 but your comment makes up for that. One other person has made this that I know of so please feel free to use the idea. Mine is still going strong after nearly 3 years but I would say make it out of thicker wood and try and lose the middle folding supports. Please let me know once it's done, I would love to see it. 😁😁😁😁

      @irene raimondi thanks for such a beautiful comment. It's nice to get appreciated for the idea as most people just say it looks time consuming to put up lol. It works a treat and is a pleasure to use 😁😁😁 tha ks for checking out the video.

      @Saint Byron it did take some work but once I had the idea it was a fun challenge to make it work. I loved getting to the end and thinking, I made that!

    The most intelligent fold away camper I have ever seen. You have so much space when everything is folded away... puts me to shame!! Love the seats also! Very jealous!! Love Doggo and the channel!!

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Dean's Destination Thanks for the comment Bro, the set up in Doggo is so versitile and took a lot of thinking about but I find that taking the build slowly and thinking about it really pays off in the end. Hopefully I can show you it in the flesh soon mate. 😁

    I LOVE this design and I'm so glad you're uploading a video that further explains it. I've been racking my brain to figure out a bench/bed situation in my US Ford Transit Connect. This is such a brilliant design, man, thank you for sharing this. It's giving me such ideas for mine. Right now I Just have a folding bench with 2 legs that you can fit milk crates under, a folding table, and a stationary sink.

      @Gaius Thanks for taking the time to right such a lovely comment. Im really glad that my design has fueled you with ideas for your own build. For the longest time I was stuck not knowing how to lay out my van and how to set it up. I just used to go out in it at night and just look at it inside whilst having a beer and then one day it all clicked into place and the best thing is the designs all worked and came together. Im loving my build now and it works so well for me.

    Great design. Think I’m going to try create a full length on from the back doors to the bulkhead!

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Andrew Walton. I did think of that for a van without seats. I used 9mm and If I was making again I would go for 12mm. Would probably need less supports. It would be a big weight to drag so I would attach felt to the wood where it runs on the floor and for the shear size and weight it still might be worth making it in two halves, that way you could have them individual as van mode,.seat or bed mode.

      @David Ashcroft Thanks for a lovely comment. Now before I started this build I couldn't do any of this. With this project I just took my time, thought about everything for sometime before I did it and just did the best I could. I'm sure you or anyone could manage this. 😁

    Brilliant design! Thanks for sharing this. My original comment disappeared, but my suggestion to you would be to glue felted wool on the bottom edges of the boards of the expanding base to make it easier to slide open and to keep from scraping the flooring.

      @Audrey Smith the original comment came through to me so not sure why you couldnt see it but thanks for trying again. The felt idea is awesome and I wish I had thought of that at the time of build. Thanks a lot for the comment 😁

    Loving what you have done with the Connect, well done.
    I have exactly the same setup as you but with the sliding mesh bulkhead.
    I'd love to do a conversation but somehow keep the bulkhead, as it's great for loading the rear with stuff and not having the worry of stuff falling on the kids in the back seats.
    I'd also need to work out a way of storing my mountain bike whilst I sleep in there.
    I currently transport 2 mountain bikes length ways without removing the wheels and think I'd still be able to do so with your design in van mode.
    Cracking build, well done.

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jonathan Cole My van had the sliding bulk head too. That came straight out but really that could stay in with this set up. I removed my single rear seat to give me space to fit the heater and the leisure battery. If i had done that and didnt fit the transformer table then i would have space for the bed and for the bikes. Thanks for shecking out the video.

    Its got me curious though. I thought a murphy bed style is the best for van use and camper, but this option is very interesting as it has the seating area as well.

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A few people have said about the Murphy system to me before but I never even knew it existed lol. Mine mainly stays in seat mode and I use it everyday lol. I can sleep on seat mode too for when I am lazy but it does get used in bed mode quite frequently. I'm so glad I went this way and not just a slide out as the space when in Van Mode is priceless 😁

  • @audreysmith2557

    Brilliant design! Thanks for sharing the construction of this. Just a suggestion: to keep the floor from getting scratched when you expand the bed base, glue some felted wool on the bottom edges of the boards of the base. It should make it easier to slide open, too. It’s almost painful listening to it scrape on the floor as you open and close it.

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Audrey Smith Thanks for this idea! I didnt think of that when building the bed which is a shame. I do have some feet that it sits on so it isnt scratching the floor and the floor is a pvc tile not actual wood so the scratching sound is just the feet sliding over the textured floor but the felt would have been so much better. Thanks for comment and idea 😁

    I think its a highly versatile mode if you do small trips and use it like a van. For vanlife, I think its impractical as the setup takes forever. Cool design for a 3-4 trip camping trip a summer van.

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ShawN shawN thanks for watching. It is really versatile having the extra function of a van. As a family we have just been away and in Van Mode there is so much space for luggage. In every video it does takeong to set up but honestly not going at full speed and I don't think it would be that much longer than a slide out bed. The bit that takes the time is sheets and duvets. That takes forever. Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to appreciate the Transformer Bed 👍

    Nice idea that 👍👍. Completely off topic how is that fridge working out ? You ever run low on power because of it ?

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Grumpy Grandpa thanks for the comment. The fridge has been a bit a pain but it's all sorted now. I only have solar, 220 Watts coming in to my little 75ah battery. This has been fine for lights, power and heating all the way through last winter and this summer. Now I tried a 12v cool box and it would suck the power in less than a day, it was awful. I had a friend who ran a compressor fridge and he said that would run for about 3 days with no power. He has no solar just split charge and when camped he wouldn't charge so I thought that sounds perfect for me with my solar. So I had it at the end of summer and the fridge was running at 4°c perfect. Didn't miss a beat and it was amazing! Until the shorter darker days came. Now this was using more than was being put in the battery so over time it was to much drain. I switched it off for a day so the battery could charge and noticed that the fridge was sitting at 14°c and at that point the stuff in the fridge was still cool to touch so I now have it set at 13°c and it is using virtually no power and it is cool. When my heater is on and the area warms up to 21°c the fridge stays cool anyway and just occasionally turns the compressor on. As it warms up I will lower the temp in the fridge and I will get more sun so I have now found a nice equilibrium that works for me.

      @@ChillVanlife awesome thanks for the great reply thinking do I get the same alpicool as you or do I go the slighter more expensive route and get a 3 way cooler box I’ve only got a b2b split charge at the minute and no solar 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@grumpygrandpa3640 I was looking at the 3 ways and it looked like I would only cool on gas and 240v on 12 volt it would only try to maintain but not cool.

    What's the model name of that convertible chair? I was looking for a way to get 4 people in this transit lol. I couldn't find it online. You know a place where I can get that chair in North America?

    • @ChillVanlife
      @ChillVanlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Nompack These are the genuine Ford rear seats that came with the van. In the UK its called a Crew cab and the seats fold up and down. In America I think they call it the XL passanger wagon.
      Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment 😁
