You can always tell who doesn't watch ANY games with any given team. They didn't once bring up the man games lost in their top 6. It was THE storyline last year. They weren't a playoff team even if they stayed healthy, but that was a brutal amount of missing top end players for one season. If they stay even relatively healthy, take the over.
70 points is a very achievable target for the Ducks this upcoming season. I'd take the over on that in a second. The team was decimated by injuries last season and they took an absurd number of minor penalties while having the 30th PK in the league. If (and sure these are big if's) the team sees better health, takes fewer penalties and has just a middle of the league PK converting 10 of their 1-goal losses into 1-goal wins won't be hard.
Couldn't belevie they didn't mention all the lost games to injury! Z, Leo, McT, Minty, Terry, Gudas all spent time on the shelf. Not the best analysis at all. 70 points no prob if remotely healthy
"Less than 59" (points) says Curly and both Moe and Larry take the "under 70".... the internet is forever... let's see how well this ages... but hey, unlike Moe and Curly at least Jesse Blake knew Cam Fowler is left-handed!
Yep! Cronin tamed Z a bit and he got hurt. Give him a sec and he's gonna be electric again soon, he doesn't need to be a selke finalist, just not a liabilty.
Explain how their defense isn't good though? If they just get better than subpar goaltending from Gibson and stay semi healthy, they should absolutely be competitive.
Considering this is now your full time job I'd have thought these season previews would be far better as you'd actually have time to research the teams you're talking about.
Ducks will definitely finish ahead of the Sharks and Flames this season in their division, and have a chance to catch a few other limping teams to battle for a wildcard spot. Look at where they were in November last season before the injuries started piling up. They are on the rising end of their rebuild, and it will only get better.
As a Duck fan who watched almost every game last season I feel 70 points should be attainable. Like some have already mentioned the injuries last season were ridiculous and the lineup some nights was laughable. As long as the Ducks are healthier (how could they not be?) I can easily see them taking a modest step this season.
I can see Verbeek making a move at the trade deadline to bolster the lineup, maybe this year, maybe next. He’s got plenty of prospects, loads of draft picks and tons of cap space that could easily be used to pick up a veteran wing or RHD. I think at minimum there is a 10 point improvement this year. And with some luck and perhaps an addition at the deadline or in FA next season, they could be in the playoff hunt next year.
Zegras has literally never been in a trade rumor because the Ducks has any intention of trading him. The trade rumors has always started because the outsiders want to treat them like a minor league. This is a rebuilding team, and yet any time their young player start playing better it's "Troy Terry trade rumor" or "Zegras trade rumor". Is someone going to trade a top 10 picks for them? hell no. Then there is 0 value to trading any of them. If those guys bust, the Ducks end with another top 5 pick and try again. What's the point of trading those guys for "value"? to end up bottom 10 instead of bottom 5? The latest trade Zegras trade rumor started THE DAY the Ducks traded for Cutter Gauthier because a certain president of hockey writer, whom has always been wrong on anything ducks related, is upset he missed out on a scoop. Said hack of a writer also proudly proclaimed Gibson has played his last game with the Ducks, of which was rebuked the very same day by Gibson and that was a full season ago.
Most of the rumors i heard only cares about the Non-Anaheim side of the deal, they do not care at all about what Anaheim realistically want. That being said, Zegras current return wouldn’t fetch much more than Laine’s recent trade, Anaheim will never trade him that low in value, when they can simply be patient.
Realistically with how many good rookies they have coming up the pipe and most being NHL ready especially at the C position, they are better off getting something for him. Who knows what that is
The video of say you know nothing about Pacific division and hockey without saying you know nothing about Pacific division and hockey arrived. If you really think that Sharks can finish 5th or 6th with two talented rookies on their roster vs. the team that has established core of young players finishing 8th, then you should only talk about Leafs from now on. By the way go read the scouting reports on Cutter Gauthier who is projected as the biggest favourite to win the Calder this year by most of the scouts. He is a much better prospect than Will Smith. That trade is an absolute masterpiece from Verbeek. I get that you need views, so you have to exaggerate, but be at least a little realistic.
Literally this. They also have no idea who any of the defenseman actually are. The defense core for the ducks is actually good now. If they get some decent goaltending and some bottom 6 scoring, that alone will make them competitive. These people have no damn idea what they're even talking about, they just love to hate the ducks.
The Defense gets all the critique, yet if one just looks at even strength statistics, they would find that it is league average. The offense failed to score and special teams were beyond god-awful. The one bright spot of 2023-24 was the defense. It is quite easy to tell they are mostly just going on what they seem to think instead of looking at any type of analytics. Also, stop with the “trade rumors”. Is it really trade rumors when it is unilaterally one-sided and has always been wrong so far?!?
Another tough season of Anaheim's glacially slow rebuild, but a lot of good young players. Every season they are rumoured to be trading Gibson, so I expect to hear that again this year. They had a ton of injuries last season and should be better this year, but they could still be fighting to stay out of the division basement against the Sharks and Flames.
Ok let’s take this duck hate down a notch. Zellweger, Mintyukov, Lacombe and I’ll even throw in Vaakanainen is a great young d-core to build around and surround with Veterans who won’t let them get pushed around like Gudas. Zegras is on the block because they have higher potential and younger centers in Carlsson and McTavish. His defensive liability of play has become expendable. I’ll put it into this perspective. The Avs in 2009 had a banger draft. Duchene, O’Reilly, and Barrie. But it took trading that core for pieces to compliment their younger core to push them over the top. Dallas Eakins isn’t the coach anymore. Expect an improvement on their defensive team game that makes them struggle. There is skill, but lack a team toughness. Gudas as captain will help fix that.
I love you guys but you are way off track with your ducks. They are on the upside of the rebuild. They have the talent and prospects. They had big injury problems last year. Zegras is going nowhere. It hurts with all your negativity. I’m keeping the receipts 😊. Keep up the great work.
After going to 8 Ducks games last season and watching them get throttled multiple times, I wouldn’t be surprised if Stamkos and Marchessault each said, “Look, Pat, I appreciate the big money offer, but I wanna win now.”
The reality is that they chose Nashville, because of taxes. When you get the same term and money offered from a team in California and team in Tennessee and especially when you have a family, the choice is pretty simple and logical.

Not that they would have been much better, but they could have been a bit. Unfortunately they lost a lot of time to develop chemistry together last season as they developed and that won’t help either
How can you talk about last seasons' woos and not even mention all the injuries??? So many lost games between Zegras Terry McTavish Carlsson Mintykov last season and all spread out through the year. Anaheim was one of only three teams who were outscored by more than a goal a game on average. They could cut that deficit in half and they would still be no where near a playoff spot. They also don't have a ton of early draft picks these next two years, so they won't rebuild quickly.
I think they’ve done their draft heavy portion of the rebuild. You got Zegras, McT, Carlsson, Luneau, Zellweger, Mintyukov, Sennecke. That’s a heck of a lot of talent and they still have all their firsts and loads of mid draft picks next year. I see them unloading some picks at the deadline or next offseason for some talent.

Oh, and a distant third would be goaltending. They knew by last year Dostal was the superior goalie and yet they trusted Gibson far too much. Maybe it was a way to pull the plug, though, but even then; if the goal is to trade him, they shouldn't actively look to decrease his value... Put Dostal #1 this year, see what happens.

I know you guys hate the Hawks, but giving the Ducks the edge over the Hawks is blasphemy. Shame. At least the Hawks are trying to insulate their young guys. Also I think the Zegras to Montreal rumors are just people wanting Caufield and Zegras back together because of the Team USA connection.
@@matthewkabel6246 you’re telling me that Carlsson and McTavish down the middle with a rookie, a veteran with hard miles on his body, a top draft pick that’s falling in terms of expectation, and Troy Terry is insulated? There’s like three guys on the Ducks that have playoff experience. Who is teaching these young guys what it takes to take the next step? Care to explain who is insulation the Ducks line up? Because Fabbri, Strome, Vatrano isn’t what I call insulation, and the top six on the back end is suspect as well. I’m not saying the Hawks are miles better, or a contender or anything like that, but to say that Anaheim automatically has the edge and are better than the Hawks is wild.
@@austinwooten2795 first off, you're underselling Carlsson and McTavish. Both of them can plausibly be 60+ point producers this year, McTavish produced at a 54 point pace last year and that was WITH the injuries/lack of health to the top 6, including himself playing through injuries down the stretch. Not to mention him carrying two third liners in Strome and Vatrano for the beginning portion of the season. Leo's production last year didn't do justice to how dynamic and effective he was on a nightly basis whatsoever. He endured 3 separate injuries himself which didn't allow him to get in a groove, and when in the lineup he was the only other automatic zone entry on the team besides Zegras. Leo's linemates couldn't finish his passes to save their lives and his two way metrics were brilliant. If Zegras is the guy you referred to as one who's "falling in terms of expectation" then I don't understand at all where you're coming from. He missed training camp last year, started the season with osteitis pubis which explained his lack of production early on before he went on the IL. That's the same injury currently threatening Couture's career. Zegras was productive in the 8 games following his return before breaking his ankle. Upon returning from his second injury, he put up 8 points (would've been far more if Anaheim had finishers healthy) over his final 8 games and was playing engaged and responsible two way hockey. He's one of the most dynamic playmakers in the game and if he's fully healthy and receives fair PP deployment, he'll undoubtedly lead Anaheim in points with the potential for 80+. You're also discounting how impactful Cutter can be as a rookie. He could've played in the NHL last year and traded water at the very least. He's so physically mature, and he's being put in a position to succeed with all the passing talent surrounding him, and as a result they'll accentuate his strengths as a shooter and off-puck threat in the o zone. Terry is also a surefire top six player on any team in the league and one of the most underrated two way wingers in the sport. I do agree that Anaheim's presumptive third line is flawed but at the very least they can chip in some offense and Verbeek was adamant last year about wanting to improve the depth scoring. Also I wouldn't call the back end "suspect". Far from perfect for sure, but Gudas is still a highly underrated shutdown top 4 D who's one of the best at suppressing opportunities at 5v5. Mintyukov was extremely dynamic last year when healthy and showed flashes of all around brilliance, he's capable of ascending into a true top pair caliber guy this season. Zellweger is another guy who's one of the best young D in the sport, a top 4 guy and PP QB is his FLOOR. Dumoulin still has solid defensive numbers and LaCombe will succeed away from Fowler. There's a much more even balance of puck rushing and defensive aptitude in Anaheim's blueline than people want to admit.
They didn't do nothing. They improved their bottom 6. Their top 6 is fine, produces well when healthy. Their issue last season no one accounts for is their top 6 only played fully together for like 5 games due to injury. Now they have depth.
3 idiots who watch 1 ducks game a year give me a preview of my team. Love that.

I’m not shocked they did nothing in the off season
They didn't do nothing. They improved their bottom 6. Their top 6 is fine, produces well when healthy. Their issue last season no one accounts for is their top 6 only played fully together for like 5 games due to injury. Now they have depth.
