I don't understand though: you say you haven't had the time to check more features and settings, but why not do that *before* making the video? It's a 2014 camera in 2022, there's no rush to get the video out, so then do it well.
Just traded in my Sony A6000 for the A7II. I wanted to get away from crop sensor and step into full frame, as well as get a head start into those fancy full frame lenses ;)
The question would be: Why did you stay with Sony for Full Frame on a camera body with such of a bad AF. Now if you're into landscape photography like myself it's a no brainer otherwise a body from Canon or Nikon would have been a better option to rebuild a system from scratch.

I did briefly consider Nikon, but I stuck with Sony because I’m familiar with their menu system and I really like how they share their software with other companies so there’s more third party lens compatibility. Eventually I’d like to get the new A7iv, but I couldn’t justify spending $2500 on a camera body right now. For budget reasons I chose the A7ii 🙂

I’ve had this camera for a couple years now, and the picture quality is awesome. I use it mainly for photos, and some video work. I’d recommend picking up the 50mm f1.8 lens. It’s really cheap and the quality of it blows the kit lens out of the water! However, the auto focus sucks for video..

I've had this camera ever since it came out. I use it for photos and it still holds up. Great quality photos especially when you get a good lens. What holds it back in video and why I don't use it is its autofocus. VAF on it is abysmal.
I bought this camera when it first came out in 2014. It’s a beast! Have several other newer cameras but this still my favourite. Don’t be worried if you see it for a good price, well worth it as it was ahead of its time when it came out.

I rented A7R mark 2 and tested A7 mark 2 and mark 3. As a Sony A-mount user, I finally decided to buy A7 mark I. I thought I found a great deal at around 300 euros for a body of less than 20k actuation shots. The truth is coming from a prograde body A99 mark II, all those A7 are way too much overrated and their prices is not at all in the right ballpark. Realistically, A7 mark I should be bought second hand for anything around 200 euros and A7 mark II for top 500 euros. The bodies are so much toyish and not on par with their DSLR siblings that I still don't understand all the hype around those Sony A7 body lines. So A7 mark II why not as long as you know the huge limitations of batteries and AF, and pay the right price (certainly not more than 500 euros). As a landscape tog I couldn't care less to have an A7 as a backup Full Frame camera for my real workhorse DSLR.
I have the Sony A7, the A7II, A6400. They are really great cameras, especially the A7II with IBS. Love the Evf on them as what you see is what you get ,no second guessing at what the picture will look like. I don't find them toyish in the lest. Where they come into their own is when you throw some good manual glass on them, really fun in my opinion.
@@PeresD for manual shooting they can be fun to use I do agree. I just don't agree with their price point when faced to DSLR equivalent. Coming from the 9 line for A-mount, these 7 lines in E-mount are toyish. According to one's starting point that can be corroborate or not... Anyway I wish you happy shooting with your new gear ;)

R7 is a great one for photos not sure about video as I don’t do video much unless I get paid for it so try out yourself in the store if you like it and RP is a good starter but if your budget allows for it otherwise it’s not worth it to just buy a body and have a shit lens . Get R7 and a lenses to go along with it .

Just get an iPhone it’d be a better camera for travel type thing otherwise just buy second hand a6000 series camera those are light . Fujifilm is makin some great camera for travellers or a Ricoh gr3 if your budget allows .

This camera is fantastic. Although the battery life is not the best, it's nothing that can't be fixed with a battery grip or use an external battery. Great content.
I saw a 4k logo on the box but you didn't mention 4k video at all. What 4k frame rates? UHD or C4k? Is there any noise in high iso for video? Does it come with slog 2 and slog 3? We need to know these things if your recommending this camera.

Go for a6400 if you need video. This camera had af issues. Or try the Nikon d750 or d810 if you're willing to go the DSLR route, they have double card slots, and lenses are cheaper on that side
AF system on A7 mark I and mark II is way too slow to track moving subjects efficiently. You'll struggle a lot trying to work around the AF limitations... For Sony E-mount, A7 mark 3 was the real starter for Sony. But prices new andnsecond hand of this sub par camera is just ridiculous.
Focus....you gotta get your focus down. even on the first camera you used. Just out of focus. Also, maybe use the camera before you recommend it. Just saying, you have no experience with you but your recommending it.....not a good look.

I got the 50 f1.8 and it’s so so so so clean on the 7ii. For the price its alright.
For portrait photography is an absolute yes
But for videography, I think a6400 and zv e10 way better

i bought this camera 5 years ago and the only thing i reccomend is extra batteries and get a sigma lense

This camera doesn't shoot 4k video, and does not have slog3, only has slog1/2
It only supports 4k display via HDMI, so you can record 4k with an external HDMI recorder but not in camera.
