I am kind of lost for words on this one. Beautiful and outstanding. The field of poppies and the graves did affect me a bit. I felt very humbled and a lump in my throat if i am being truly honest. Felt Sad. France is a beautiful country and the view of the Seine , WOW. Thank you for this, it is so much different from the norm.
Great video Charlie. France is a fabulous country for touring. Hot tip, use cathedrals or churches to cool down and rest. Great way to get out of the hot French sun and of course stay hydrated
New to your channel. Not sure if you have ever been but I can highly recommend Catalonia (covers southern France and northern Spain). Roads were made for motorcycles.....
Amazing tour. Isn't Roger just the optimum bike for this type of ride. Quite capable of doing 10-20% more than you would ever want to. Keep them coming. Very entertaining. Thanks.
Ahh beautiful france ...thank you for another wonderful post .those poppy fields remind me of the anti war song ( the green fields of France) if you dont know it you should check out the lyrics first and then listen to it by The fureys ,in my opinion the best version .A sad but beautiful song. Two lines from the song.... The sun now it shines on the green fields of France There's a warm summer breeze that makes the red poppies dance , Greetings again from Latvia 👍Charlie...harry
Hey. Thanks for this video of you touring France. I was born and grew up there. I have been living in the US for the past 25 years and the last time I went to France was a long time ago. I miss France so thank you for sharing.
We also travelled earlier this year through France stayed around Neuf- Brisach the campsite backs on to the town and fortified Castle itself very nice place to visit
Just found this channel. Love it. Got back from a motorbike trip to France 3 weeks ago (Brittany and the Loire) and this has made me want to go again. My Great Grandfather has his name at Thiepval. That's on my list now. Thankyou.
Thank you for the great insight to camping in France, We are going to try camping next year and have already booked Sous Du Etolis for the second stop, Waiting for booking to open to book the Chateau Du Bouaffles site for a couple of days. Keep safe
Hi Charlie, seems like not so long ago you were a new rider now look at you riding in France like a pro, even doing the momentary lapse of which side to ride on lol The heat can be a issue I found and you really need to hydrate a lot, but you know that better than anyone I guess, but sometimes when your having fun riding this can slip ours minds. I noticed you limited yourself to around a 100 miles per day, very wise being new it to all. I know some guys who went to France first time thinking they could do 2/300 miles a day, soon found out unless your used long days and high miles you'll be wrecked the next day. I'm hoping to get over to France in September (due to covid and other stuff haven't there in three years but done a lot in the UK) so your videos have given me the taste again thanks, keep up the great video work.
Wow, what a great vid clip Charlie, Sunday morning cup of tea watching this vid, what a beautiful town with the castle and church , very clean and no litter around stunning architecture on the church, you looked so chilled out at the end by the river, well done you for getting out there on your own 👍👍👍 cheers with the cider 🍺
I prefer riding 2 or 3 days and taking one day of rest. Might be my age 🙈. So it’s more relaxing for me. Yeah never forget to drink while riding. I Love your vids ❤. Waiting for the next one 😊. Thanks for sharing 😊🙏
Another great episode Charlie looked like the heat was getting to much at time I know that feeling but its always safty first ,keep up the video's thinking of getting a Himalayan now 🤔say safe ,x
Well done Charlie on another brilliant ride in France , there is no joy walking around in motorcycle boots tbh , i bet dipping your feet in the river was wonderful , take care & ride safe
I am living in a rather big city, Rouen , Normandy, and i frequently speak with tourists about how the frogs interact with them. 9à percent of the time, they say we're adorable. Paris is not France.
I'm really enjoying the ride Charlie. Big clear blue skies, great roads and single tracks which was clearly heaven for you and Roger. Seriously, thinking of getting a Himmy or Scram myself for some time now. Respect your spirit of adventure and "can do" attitude. 😊
Hi Rest Day Rider. Saw you when you started out , watched your trip up to Scotland, saw you change to Himalayan , then today saw you riding in France . I thank you for reminding me what a great country I live in . After 11 years here I take it a bit for granted . Your trip down the single lane road made me think , yes I made the right decision. Roads are great people are great "foot waves" all the time. I just love my life in France . Thank you for reminding me it is so great. Great videos and music these days. Congratulaions.
Fantastic scenery Charlie, quality content, poignant too! Me thinks though that the rest day rider needs a day of rest from riding . Some shade and plenty of water , but I guess you already sussed that young lady….alb Cam xx💐
i was there in 2019 for the 75 anniversary of D day. and it was v good i have been back 2 and will be going back soon . with luck in 2024. for the 80 anniversary. god willing..p.s. thank you for vids ill will wach
First time I was in France and I got a foot wave I thought the damned Frenchie was trying to kick me! Glad I found out that French Motard's are incredibly friendly and bloody quick. There is a lot to be said for riding alone. I'm not good at group riding and you tend more to get into the country your in than if your riding with mates. Enjoy.
Agree with you 100% on that statement although a short ride in a group can also be fun. However the best way to do a road trip is with a partner taking his/her bike.... I like to share my new Impressions and experiences with a mate/partner, eg; staring into that poppy field and taking in the surrounding beauty.
Yes. It's a thank you to car drivers (and others) who leave room for overtaking. I didn't know this until my sons put me right.... a while ago, before I turned to the dark side and got a bike 😅
Hi Charlie, really enjoyed this, thank you. I've done a bit of touring in France and it brought back some great memories. Exploring the French countryside, and being able to look around because the roads are empty, stopping in the small towns for a coffee ( or tea ) and catching a piece of peoples day to day lives as your ar5e comes back to life, brilliant! Being a bit of an old git now, I tend to use the Ibis budget hotels rather than camping. It stops the hour you loose at the beginning and the end of the day setting up and taking down the tent, giving you more time on the road, but also reduces the amount of creaking my body does these days lol! I look forward to part 3...
Well done Charlie and looks like you have had similar weather to us lot in Normandy. Looks like you and Roger are coping with the roads, some great filming and looking forward to seeing the part 2 & 3 .
Great video. You do a great job. One suggestion though. Buy yourself some ventilated textiles. Light colors too. Ditch all that black stuff including the helmet. You'll be a lot cooler. Black may be kinda traditional, but it's an uncomfortable fashion in the summer. Have a great weekend.
Awesome stuff Charlie. Really inspiring watching people filming there get always etc. Planning 3 nights Stonehaven to Kingussie. Then next day, to Lochcarron (my buddies are playing live Saturday night, Calum said he might take his Harley. He wants a wee run on the Meteor.) Then over the Bealach Na Ba, and onwards to Ullapool, then home next day. So I better start packing……lol. Hopefully my Crohn’s and Pancreatitis keeps at bay, and the rain. Keep up the good work Charlie, and stay save.😊
@@restdayrider gee that be busy, hopefully you stay in Ullapool. Calum and Michele (Johnny Cash duo, play Wednesday night in Caledonian hotel. I did the sort of same trip about 6yrs ago, stayed in a hostel in Amiens and did most of the battlefield tour, amazing history nice people and great weather too, rest day is a must mate, everyone thinks it's easy doing a bike trip but it is knackering and the old body takes a beating, the things we do for motorcycles 😅, atb Chris
Happy the sat nav suddenly took you to the rural roads, the "departementales" as they are called and the even smaller "comunales" are the best way to discover France at it's best. Sitting at he riverbanks just doing nothing ,but looking at the water, is a great way to relax innit. That's meditation to me😇 Nice video again Charlie as usual, thx for sharing.
Hope your really enjoying yourself over there, we've travelled all over Europe and absolutely love it ! Hopefully another big trip planned for next year ! Take care and have fun 😃🏍
@restdayrider Great !! We're working on going to Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, italy and coming back up through France over a two week period in early June ! 😀 can't wait !
Great stuff! Having just returned from my latest trip to the Ardennes and Mosel valley I’m really enjoying your series and taking note for my next trip later this year. So cheers Rodger for some lovely ideas. All the best, Alan.
Thank you, Charlie, you really capture the atmosphere of France, and your choice of music is spot on. Roger runs so well, he was a good buy. The French show their respect for the victims of the two world wars by how they tend the graveyards, always immaculate no matter how remote.🕊️
Loved it 👍. Thanks again Charlie. That was a very picturesque campsite by the Seine. Awesome bit of rural single track riding too 😎. I’m guessing that was a buzzard that flew across just in front of you ?
@@restdayrider I'm obviously well behind the curve.😸 You're hopefully hitting "The Biker Belt" now. Great roads, varied scenery and oncoming farm equipment!
Nice footage Charlie, I will say, black is proberly the worst color for hot weather, that is why riders with experience (money) have grey gear, they have all had the experience as you !!! (I could not afford it, but bought some used gear in grey)
ha ha ha i think you should try down size on your camping kit ????? just my thoughts . try a free standing 2man tent but small packing and a tarp and a very very good 7.5cm sleeping pad and a good sleeping bag down bag , i can set up and pack up and go in 10min flat . 30yrs experience . just my thoughts . be safe and love your updates , its a learning curve .ps . travel light is the the way .
Charlie, your editing gets better and better! We loved this 'France - Part 2' video as much as Part 1 and we look forward to Part 3! Wonderful seeing that buzzard cross in front of you (and the action replay!) Très bien 😉
I can feel the heat sat here in Wales, two week of terrible rain. I used to live down there, and toured all over with friends as well as numerous trips down when in the UK. Made a mistake in April one year, nice and sunny here, hooray, wore leathers, unlined gloves...came off the ferry at 6am and it was sub zero and thick frost. 180 miles later and I was facing hypothermia! Been caught in monsoon conditions too, absolutely soaked. The sun can be vicious, no way to cool down, but it's all an adventure.
I don’t know why but there seems a nice comforting relaxing feeling looking at these old villages, fields of poppies, ancient castles and beautiful old houses. Nice episode, everything so tidy and well kept, here in Thailand I have got used to so much mess, but at this moment hidden by wildly growing rainy season vegetation. 😊😊😊😊
I hardly ever got lost when I used maps...I now use a satnav and get 'lost' all the time...😠 Like you, I've seen great places when the satnav has messed up...but now if the satnav sends me somewhere I think is 'in wrong direction' I just click on my next 'waypoint' or enter the next town I want to get to. Great video! Easy to 'forget' to keep hydrated, and best not to go 'walkies' in your riding gear when it's hot. 🤣
It probably too late to suggest this, Monets garden at Giverney, north west of Paris. well worth it, i went last year but was too early for the Lillies. great production, its just how i remember my trip a year ago.
Awesome ride Charlie, that little road was a bikers paradise👌You sure lucked out with the weather, shouldn't complain about it being too hot😉I know what its like in bikers clothes but safety first always! What a cracking camp spot also, right next to the river👍
A great video and some lovely views of rural France. It would be good to get your opinions of “Roger” at some point, pros and cons of the bike for touring. Thanks. 👍
I know your home now Charlie but next time your in France try the automatic pizza booths ! They're all over the place ans they're brilliant ! Happy trails.....
Been looking forward to this Charlie, off on my usual travels to Spain on my Himalayan in September, but good to compare experiences. Building up to a nice series cheers. 👍
Hi Charlie, I've just bought an Insta360 x3 camera, as my first camera so looking forward to learning how to use this. I to have a Himalayan and used to be in the Wiltshire area of the RE Owners Club (now in Hampshire). Great videos by the way. What i wanted to ask you was to do with the editing. I wondered if i could buy you a coffee sometime to discuss. Cheers Noel 😊
Hi Noel, for general editing I use a free version on DaVinci 18, for the Insta 360 I use their specific lap top software, self taught but there are TH-cam vids I used to help me. 😊
@@restdayrider thanks for the reply Charlie. I have downloaded the editing software and my learning journey starts here. Keep an eye out for my TH-cam channel to be uploaded shortly. 😜

I'm glad it is relaxing to watch. 😊
Thank you 😊
It probably too late to suggest this, Monets garden at Giverney, north west of Paris. well worth it, i went last year but was too early for the Lillies. great production, its just how i remember my trip a year ago.
Next time! 😊
Awesome ride Charlie, that little road was a bikers paradise👌You sure lucked out with the weather, shouldn't complain about it being too hot😉I know what its like in bikers clothes but safety first always! What a cracking camp spot also, right next to the river👍
It was a wonderful tour. 😀
A great video and some lovely views of rural France. It would be good to get your opinions of “Roger” at some point, pros and cons of the bike for touring. Thanks. 👍
I will look at doing this 😁
merci love it
I know your home now Charlie but next time your in France try the automatic pizza booths ! They're all over the place ans they're brilliant ! Happy trails.....
Will do!
I think you’ll like my country. we Love British bikers. ✌️✌️✌️
Love it Charlie, why didn't you go for a dip, it looked lovely.

Thank you!!
Been looking forward to this Charlie, off on my usual travels to Spain on my Himalayan in September, but good to compare experiences. Building up to a nice series cheers. 👍
Thank you, Spain will be amazing. 😊
Aye, it always is Charlie. Usually stay north, but going further south this time (hopefully) 😎
A really enjoyable vlog Charlie. How come you stopped using your Zumo?
I couldn't work out how to turn the bing bing bing off so I stopped for a bit. 😂
