    Collins is the most underrated boxer ever. It's a myth he beat them both past their bests. Eubank fought Collins after one of his best wins vs Henry Wharton and beat him. Then in a rematch almost a shutout. Benn just couldn't handle the absolute toughness and durability. Stopped him twice. I love Eubank and Benn for what they did for British boxing but Collins smashed them both twice. Past their best argument? Collins was older than Eubank and Benn the same age. I'm English but Collins was a diamond.

      Tis true!! In his younger days& early career,he employed more of a 'Counter Punching' Style! And he had been training& doing most of his fighting, over in the U.S & been mixing in more skillful,& tougher circles!
      And this Pedigree showed up in the end!..And we all have opinions, but most of the unbiased fight Pundits& fans know the results he achieved against Eubanks x2 and Nigel Benn x2 wouldn't have been any different if these fights had taken place 5 or 6 yrs earlier! ( when he was also younger& less battle weary!) And in Rnd (4) u saw the old Collins style of fighting,Boxing, slipping Punches and countering!!
      But full respect to Nigel Benn he was great for British ' Prizefighting' and never failed to put on a show!
      .And for those who might be interested (or not?) That piece of music is a classic. 'Oro Se do bheatha Bhaile ( English translation=Oh-ro You are welcome home,oh ro you are welcome, now that the summers coming). The Legendary Irish band ' The Dubliners' did a version..Brilliant stuff👍 ☘ 🇨🇮 🇨🇮

      @@onthedry8386 well said mate.. The body snatcher was one of the best of all time and he was still banging away til his 40's..Steve Collins was a tough fucker and he had real skills as a boxer but he chose to fight this way because he wasn't getting results in title fights fighting the counter attacking way.. Shame the way it ended for Benn but he was well done by this time. He got a couple of great paydays from Collins. Good luck to him all the same. That night against McClelland was unbelievable for Benn. When u look at what McClelland did to Julian Jackson then for Benn to get up after been put through the ropes in round one was an unbelievable turnaround. Benn had a heart as big as a lion and I loved to watch him fight but Collins was too much man for him and Eubank. PERIOD!!!

      Agree with you 100pc mate about Watson, I loved the guy, he gave Benn a lesson that night in a cracking fight. I honestly believe Watson was the best of the 3 of himself, Benn and Eubank but I would have to disagree with including Collins here. Collins was massively underestimated by the Boxing World in Europe and the UK as he fought his earlier bouts under the legendary Petronelli brothers, Pat and Goody, MM Haglers trainers, and Hagler also schooled him. A lot of people also forget he beat a very good Middleweight World Champ Chris Pyatt in Sheffield and was 30 when he beat Eubanks the 1st time, who was unbeaten 28 yrs old.

    Steve Collins obviously one of the hardest men ever in his divisions. He and Eubank took punches from the best better than anyone. Incredible. We will never know what the future would have held had Eubank not stepped back in the tenth of their first encounter. The only fighter who ever looked like he could finish Collins and as many pundits have observed, simply lost the killer instinct more and more as the shadow of the Watson damage hung over him....waving in refs coz he was worried what could happen to his opponents. Hmm. Still Collins kept winning and is clearly one of the best ever.

    ben was pulled out at the right time, he had nothing left, collins would have just gave him a hiding and put ben in danger of being hurt. and that would be wrong, a man should be able to protect himself, so bens corner did right. for those none fighters out there every time a punch connects you face potential danger. wasnt worth putting ben in hospital or worse,
    ben is still a legend in every sense and steve collins is simply awesome, he went in and beat the very best several times.

    • @johncohen9800
      @johncohen9800 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree with Rance Davis. Benn's corner realised the fight was unwinnable and if it continued, he was only going to get hurt.
      It is good to see the corner taking responsibility for their fighter.
      I saw Roberto Duran Vs Davey Moore on TH-cam and Moore took a horrific beating, yet his corner continued to send him out round after round.
      It is a shame his corner didn't have the balls to do what Benn's corner did.

    Saw Benn for the first time when he fought Watson in 89'. Think it was on a Saturday afternoon on one of the networks. Really enjoyed that fight and remember rooting for Benn because I liked his bombs away style. I continued following his fights for a few years after. I never considered him to be a great fighter though. More of a crowd pleaser like a Frank Fletcher than a really good talent. Fun to watch. Soured on him a little after this fight. It appears his camp had a plan here of going out there for a few rounds, then if things don't go their way, pull out. I understand things happened after the McClellan fight, but I don't feel the Benn camp went into this fight in an honest way.

      Benn wasn't past it he just met a granite man in Collins who learned the hard way in America. Collins had been in with the real boxers and was just a better boxer end of story.

    1st fight against Eubank was very close, he was clearly knocked down in one of the early rounds but was ruled a slip for some reason. Down again in the 10th but Eubank did not go for the finish. In the rematch Collins cardio was amazing throughout the 12 rounds, Eubank had no chance. Clear wins against Benn for both fights.

    Why was the fight stopped? Don't understand it. Collins was winning, but Benn had a puncher's chance. BTW, Eubank took the first fight against Collins on short notice. The second fight was a split decision. Mike McCallum beat Collins hands down, not even close. And Collins had been fighting for four years at that time.
